Prayers - Closing in the name of Christ

Can't imagine why anyone who holds Christ to be their personal savior would not say prayers in His name. Jesus is the one who taught the Lord's prayer asking for God's generosity and mercy.

You've brought up an interesting point. Doesn't it say in Mathew that the Lord's prayer is all one should say when praying?

9 “This, then, is how you should pray:
"Our Father who art in heaven..."

Seems that it doesn't mention praying in anyone's name or asking for anything specific (except bread and forgiveness).

Maybe both those kids were right. Maybe God's name is Arthur Howard (or Arthur Howard, etal. if you want to include the whole trinity).

Perhaps that is why so few prayers are getting answered.. Too many are closing in the name of Jesus when they should be opening in the name of Jesus.

I had a difficult time understanding prayer and fasting as well. I think there is more to prayer than just aligning your will with God's will. God's blessings are conditional upon our asking. God requires patience but patience does not mean discarding your desire or aspiration. It just means being willing to wait long enough and do what it takes to have it.

I still believe that prayer does make a difference IMHO even if it does not always make a difference right now. But this is a belief not a scientific conclusion. And in many ways the belief is a choice. In my view it is the happiest choice, and until otherwise proven I will continue to choose to believe happiness is possible and that prayers are ultimately answered in this life or the next, or even the next after that.

Steve Johnson an NFL football player recently tweeted a Twitter tweet blaming God for him dropping a well thrown ball during the game.

It seems as if there are many methods of prayer. Dropping to a knee for a second or pointing to the sky after scoring a touchdown show that you believe God is in command.

I know the LDS church discourages prayers to anyone but Heavenly Father, but is it common for Christians to pray addressing Jesus or God at the beginning of the prayer?
