I also heard about someone who was called to a position by inspiration, but had to decline the calling because she had moved two weeks previously and had only showed up to tell everybody.

I'm sure we could invent a reason why that happened though, couldn't we?

I think it might just be so that the ward knew she was moving in the first place...

The kind of rationalization I might have made at one time, but it really speaks to the limitations of revelation if 'revelations' routinely mean something very different than their face value.

The callings given to someone who already has four of them because they are one of the few in the ward who can't say no and nobody else will take the job.

..Desperation, not inspiration is behind many of these decisions.

I muse about how simple it must be to narrow the choices in calling a guy to the bishopric that fits the criteria:

Attends the temple regularly
Full tithe payer
No problems with "porn addiction"
Actually believes in the church enough to pull an additional 25 hour workweek
Not in the middle of a divorce or seperation
Doesn't work on Sunday

What? No one? Perhaps we need to restructure some ward bounderies before we make a decision?

On the contrary, I find sometimes revelation leads us indirectly... I have had several experiences where I've been indirectly led to something I needed when revelation seemed to lead to something insignificant.

I think there may be inspiration in keeping a lid on or vetoing other questionable inspirations. Be grateful for that.

Happens all the time. Needs of the wards, stakes, individual members, and indeed the whole Church. Callings, who to concentrate on for reactivation, what to say, etc. etc.

Happens too often to explain away as just lucky coincidence.
