How to Address Us: A Guide for the Perplexed

For those here who may be unaware of the stiffly formal way in which we insist on being identified and addressed, and in the light of certain discussions down in the "Terrestrial Forum," here are some guidelines:

In the third person:

* Herr Professor Doktor Daniel C. Peterson, Ph.D. is the preferred form.

* Thereafter, though, His Excellency or His Eminence will be acceptable.

In the second person:

* Herr Professor Doktor Peterson, Ph.D. is the way in which we are to be directly addressed.

* If, owing to your weakness, you are unable always so to address us, Your Excellency or Your Eminence will suffice as a less-desirable (because rather too familiar and democratic) alternative.

* All such direct communications, however, should conclude with Your Unworthy Interlocutor, and they should be punctuated at frequent intervals with acknowledgements of your inferiority and lack of merit.
