I should just let this go, but its been far too fun in light of Runtu's quote in my sig. I can't help myself sometimes.

I don't see what possible reason you could have for "scamming" society in regard to a religion you yourself adhere to, as though, suffering from an illness, you couldn't wait to share it with others. There are some stupid forms of evil that are too bizarre to take very seriously. I get the fact that a lot of us are very upset about our experience as Mormons, but, seriously--how could one imagine that you are here as some kind of pied piper of Mormon anarchy. Really?

First Stem can speak volumes by filling space and being made of matter. Now you tell me that he can destroy society, too?

What are the attributes of the Stem Elbow?

What power does he have? How did he get those powers? What's the story behind him becoming evil? Does he have a costume? A lair? Henchmen? Catchphrases?

Themis wrote:I think this may be his way of dealing with an issue in which he now knows cannot be defended through secular means at this time but still wants to maintain belief. Many others maybe would not have phrased it the way he did. Many members are in this group and out of that group I think many eventually change their beliefs while many may maintain them for the most part. Maintaining irrational beliefs knowing the evidence does seem illogical, but it is understandable based on other factors that include how much they may feel they need to believe or on other interpretations from spiritual experiences that they do not want to change or reevaluate(at least not yet).

I think that sums it up... Plus on many issues I'm in way over my head. This lions in Israel and horses in america are two good examples of that. But if I can deceive anyone, somehow, and extend that to society at large, i'll have made my goals.

I'm not revealing my secrets. That's really up to shadowfax to uncover. Catchphrases? He's made the secrets somewhat known in this thread.

Dang you, Shadowfax. You might have won this time, but I'll be back and society will be deceived.

I will be waiting, cowering in fear under my kitchen table, anticipating your next strike against all that is good in this world. You fiend!

I love the idea of a supervillain that says "dang you!" We have our first catchphrase.

Kishkumen wrote:Personally I don't see that stem has done anything wrong. So he admits that his world view isn't perfectly rational. I do think that makes him more honest than most. That he gets bludgeoned for doing so helps me appreciate why many apologists avoid being as frank as he was.

I don't see stem as having done "anything wrong". I think he is either lacking in introspection (i.e., the unexamined self) or disingenuous. I think as a rational human being, stem has a consistent 'world view' in which the pieces generally harmonize. Of course, I am one who ascribes to the theories of Leon Festinger.

Maybe I am going wrong in assuming stem thinks rationally. But maybe stem has rationalized the fit of the pieces together into his 'world view', but is not confident in those fittings and therefore tries to divert attention and analysis away from those fittings. So I perhaps see a profession of imperfect rationality as something much different than honesty. Rather, I see it as a deflection, a defense mechanism to keep hidden those 'fittings' in which newly acquired information has caused growing fissures and he is back into a state of flux: assimilation and accomodation of the new information, and the reformulation of his revised 'world view'.
