I remember this being mentioned with some frequency when I joined the church in the late 70's.
Since then, it has declined to the point where I believe I haven't heard it in the past two decades, at least.
I think it silently slipped out the door with the priesthood ban, and all to the good from my perspective.
All the Best!

That quote comes from the current teaching manual for 12 to 17 year old boys. Lesson 31 Choosing an Eternal Companion.
Is there a current printing date on that manual? If so, what year was it? The reason I am asking is that like Consiglieri, I thought this advice had vanished and it becomes very significant if it is indeed current. Bcspace would consider this to be doctrine but it would be a deleterious doctrine.

Go onto LDS.org and look up Manual 3 Aaronic Presthood. It is in lesson 31. It is the Manual in use currently.

Morality is doing what is right, regardless of what you are told. Religion is doing what you are told, regardless of what is right.
“We recommend that people marry those who are of the same racial background generally, and of somewhat the same economic and social and educational background (some of those are not an absolute necessity, but preferred), ..."
You were right, I found it and now I am saddened by it. This was a statement of the past, but I would have hoped it was left in the past. Yikes!

In my hopes, I would almost bet that if Church leaders actually read (and contemplated) the Church's manuals, they would strip a lot of this stuff out...
Though based on the new Gospel Principles manual (assuming they had actually read it), I have doubts.

I couldn't help but notice that the narrator more or less ran away from the question that Schryver posed to him.
I wonder why that is?
Did the narrator sense danger down that road?

To be honest, I didn't quite understand Schryver's comment, nor do I really care to respond to such a hateful person as him (I've already take my share of insults from the man).
Since you brought it up, I read it a few times over but am still not entirely sure what he was asking. And since he admittedly hadn't read any of the discussion, I am not entire sure he knows what he was asking either. Can you clarify his question for me so that I can answer it (and perhaps help me understand the danger I supposedly feared down the road)?
*Forgive my poor sentence structures. I've been studying for a German exam the last several days and it is really screwing up my English right now.

"hateful person"?
How so?
I know him fairly well, and "hateful" is the last word I would use to describe him. From what I have seen, he is anything but hateful towards anyone. Where is this coming from?
ETA: I thought his question was perfectly clear. Are you sure you're not just obfuscating because you don't want to discuss the issues implicit in the answer you'd have to give?
I think you know exactly where he was going with his question, but you didn't want to have your hegemony over this thread threatened.

It's a word I would use to describe him. I got tired of his accusations, insinuation, and outright judgments of me and my faith. I don't care to discuss him any further. If you care to clarify his question and help me understand why I would supposedly be scared of answering it, please do.
