Re: Calling and election made sure????
I have been told by a Mission President who was also a Temple President, that C&E used to occur with some frequency, but that people kept asking for there turn, so the Church is more "quiet" about it now, but that C&E still do occur by invitation only.

Hello,
You know what's sad? That people like my parents didn't have their Calling and Election Made Sure. You couldn't hope to find two more devout Mormons who followed the guidance of The Bretheren more faithfully. My parents, for all their human flaws (like ourselves), prayed every day (multiple times), paid their tithing, and fulfilled their callings with the utmost due diligence.
To have been invited to participate in the 2nd Annointing would have meant the world to these people.
And it didn't happen.
Why is that? No. Really. Why is that? I'm curious to know why some are invited to participate in the 2nd Annointing, like Mr. Schryver, who are clearly assholes to the nth degree, and other "Saints" who never receive any sort of invite. Why is that?
What. Could. That. Be?

Re: Calling and election made sure????
Ceeboo, my personal beliefs of what the C&E comprises follows with what NightLion has said.
I've heard tales of old that Christ preformed the SA on the individual and hence the sure witness, and the association of the SA with the C&E. I also believe that the current SA’s done in the temple are as NightLion suggested.
The more common tales, from ones I trust, match what I suppose the term “Baptism Of Fire” is intended to describe. A personal witness, between God and the individual, which cannot be mistaken nor denied.
An Apostle is supposed to be a “Special Witness” of Jesus Christ, who’s calling it is to share that witness to the world. An “Especial Witness”, is one that has the same witness, but it is NOT their calling to share it, at large, with the world. I have heard a testimony (Temple worker Christmas Devotional) by one of these, who sealed the testimony by declaring it an especial witness. The spirit was like ocean waves crashing upon me, while hearing that testimony. This was not a GA, and left me with a witness that he indeed did have his C&E.

Yes, that breaks my heart. I truly understand your lament here. It’s a shame that at least the Temple SA’s are not given to the likes of your parents regularly, as an acknowledgement of their years of service.
However, in all of the tales I’ve heard of those whose sought the actual C&E (verses a sterile temple ordinance/ceremony ) all had one thing in common; A trial of their faith so intense that it all but crushed the life out of them.

Unlimited indugences, eh?
Bet that would absolve me of any guilt when eating a large bowl of ice cream. Probably work for that donut thing as well. Doubt I would go so far as to act like Will.

Do you think then that most people are confused with Calling and Election and the baptism of fire and of the Holy Ghost? Equally clueless about both I guess.

Good morning Doctor Cam,
Although I am probably the last person who should be commenting on this, I wonder if it is possible that your parents did indeed have their C&E made sure.
From my very limited (and perhaps ignorant) extremely fresh look into all this, it seems entirely plausible (or at least possible) that you would have not known if they had their C&E made sure. Yes?
Anyhoo, just a thought.
Peace,
Ceeboo

Hello Mr. Ceeboo,
Ha. Uh, no. If they had received their 2nd Annointing the entire Mormon Universe would have know about it. It would've been a bit sly, but the event would've slipped out. You know... They tell a trusted friend or two or three, and the trusted friends tell a trusted friend or two or three...
Plus, they would've told their family. They wouldn't be able to help themselves. It would've been and Object Lesson for their children.

You don't seem to know what you are talking about.MsJack appears to know more about this than you do.
Doesn't appear to be the case. But go on fantasizing if you'd like.

Re: Calling and election made sure????
The doctrine of call and election goes hand in hand with a mysterious 6th ordinance that is performed in the temple where one is "sealed up" for eternal life. According to my Book of Mormon teacher, Allan K. Parish at BYU, who I will say was the only religion teacher I had worth remembering and a genuinely good guy, said that he knew of people who received this ordinance. The ordinance includes the washing of the feet, and is most likely standard fare for the 12 and possibly the 70s though not restricted to them. My professor, If I recall correctly, said that these folks whom he believed received the ordinance were not GAs, they were not necessarily elite members.
What is controversial about the ordinance is that it mandates receiving the "2nd comforter," Jesus Christ, who appears in the flesh. In other words, those who have their calling and election made sure have joined the ultimate liars club. Though they are not to speak of the ordinance, who is to say that none of them would? After all, they are guaranteed Eternal Life at that point. So if a member of an internet community claims to have his call and election sure, it is in fact possible that he has received this ordinance at the temple and is not lying. However, such a person would be lying about the implication that he met Jesus face to face.
I suggest to my dear doctor, CamNC4Me, that his parents did not receive this ordinance for the same reason my parents most likely have not: they are in fact good people. Only those willing to toe the party line and declare the sky is brown at behest of the Brethren would be candidates for the ordinance, which at least was still being administered in the 90s. Most Mormons learn to lie to themselves to a degree in order to remain faithful, but only the most immoral would do as Bruce R. McConkie did, and lie to the world if not themselves about literally beholding Jesus Christ in the flesh, or significantly trying to imply that such an event took place. Those with their call and election sure are among the most intellectually immoral folks on the planet. Even the most dishonest scam artist on Wall Street may claim moral superiority.
