"Worthy"? (Looking for some clarity)

Hey all :)

In a recent thread, there was some talk/suggestions about "helping" someone to become worthy to enter the LDS Temple.

(PLEASE, I do not want to make this about any person, nor do I want to break the "rules" concerning Temple content) (Perhaps I am already. I dunno?)

This seems to imply that people (I guess that would be Mormons) can help other people (I guess that would be other Mormons) to become "worthy" to enter this building.

Although I may be, once again, displaying my ignorance, I can not wrap my head around this. (To be honest, the idea of people deciding if other people are (or are not) "worthy" does not sit well with me on many levels)

After digesting this for a day, I wanted to ask a few questions to see if I am understanding this right. (Maybe I am not?)

Are all the Mormons who can enter the Temple considered "worthy"?
Must you already be "worthy" to help someone else become "worthy"?
How, exactly, does one human being go about helping another human being become "worthy"?
Can you become "worthy" on your own?
Who decides who is (or who is not) "worthy"?
Anything else I should know?


I hope this came across with the intended respect that I desired it to (I just didn't know another way to ask these questions)

Yes. It doesn't mean they are. It doesn't mean they are perfect. They just meet a certain set of criteria (or lie and say they do).

Not necessarily.

How, exactly, does one human being go about helping another human being become "worthy"?

I think this is seen in two different ways. A bishop may help someone by meeting with them and discussing the sins that are keeping them from the temple. He would help them through the "repentance process" and give guidance and encouragement.

Other members of the ward may "help" by encouraging the person to overcome the obsticles keeping them from the temple. They may talk up the temple and how glorious and wonderful it is. Mostly, though, I think it comes in the form of encouragement or peer pressure.

Sure. As long as you have no "major sins" that need to be worked out with your bishop. For example, I was very young and hadn't had time to do anything naughty so I was easily approved by my bishop and stake president.

Who decides who is (or who is not) "worthy"?

The bishop, stake president and the individual.

Anything else I should know?

Not that I can think of. But, I do think I have a bunch of spelling and grammar errors in my response. Sorry.

To enter the temple, yes.

Setting a better example. Being kind. Doing hometeaching. Being a better friend/relative. etc.

Sure. But it's easier when you have a support group of friends and relatives.

Bishop and Stake President.

The etc. Sure, even Ceeboo can help. For example, I was only one of two or three LDS in my jumior high and high school. Most were indifferent to my faith, some were bitterly opposed and critical of it, some would admonish others to stop swearing and telling dirty jokes when I was present. They would also make sure there was something non caffeinated on hand for me to drink. Etc.

I just wanted to add that to be worthy to enter the temple in LDS speak is to answer the temple recommend questions, in honesty, in the affirmative where expected and in the negative where also expected.
