Huh. So this is what Jack "the dark, menacing presence" has been up to these days. He seems to be good at staying in the shadows, as far as Mopologetics is concerned.

That you imagine that Jack Welch, of all people (!), has been "staying in the shadows" so far as apologetics and Mormon-related scholarship go speaks volumes about your bizarre misperceptions of reality:

Hi there, Dan.

Actually, I was quoting Will Bagley. Have you listened to Part II of the "Mormon Expressions" interview with Bagley?

http://mormonexpression.com/2010/04/07/ ... ey-part-2/

In it, Will Bagley describes Welch as a "dark, menacing presence," and Bagley was left with the distinct impression that Welch is really calling the shots as far as apologetics are concerned---or, at least, Welch wields a stunning amount of power. As I recall, Bagley said that people at the Joseph Fielding Smith Institute had to get permission from Welch just to "breathe." Is that the case with you, too? Or does Welch let you do what you want?

In any event, I wasn't talking about Welch's "visible" MI publications. I was referring to Bagley's description of him. If Bagley is right, then it means that Welch has very quietly been controlling the direction of FARMS and the MI from "the shadows." Sure: he may be publishing things here and there, but behind the scenes (per Bagley) it seems he has a lot, lot more influence and power than I had ever realized. So much power, in fact, that Elder Oaks actually leans on him for advice.

I ran a thread on this while you were gone. You may want to brush up on it so you're up to speed:

LOL.

This is funny stuff.

We only think we have free will. It's an illusion.

So far, a pretty standard determinist position. But who knew that it was really Jack Welch who calls the shots?

Doctor Scratch wrote:Sure: he may be publishing things here and there,

A considerable understatement.

I may take a look at it sometime.

But I've known Jack Welch for roughly thirty six years or so, and have worked with him for nearly a quarter of a century, so I don't need much bringing up to speed.

Thanks for the reply, Dr. Peterson. I figured that I would get some sort of reply from you that dodged the issue, but this particular reply was revelatory.

You're welcome.

There's no issue.

My replies are always revelatory. And particularly so in view of your remarkable gift for eisegesis. You get even more out of them.

No, I guess not. I related a story told by Will Bagley in which Jack Welch was depicted as a sort of iron-fisted "puppet master" presiding over Mopologetics, and via your non-response, you seemed to agree with the depiction. And I'm cool with that.
