Re: The Church publishes it's financial information...
Do the funds for Humanitarian Aid collected in the UK, stay in the UK, or does it go to Salt Lake?
Or in other words, are all decisions regarding Humanitarian Aid made in Salt Lake or does the nation whose members donated the funds have any say in the distribution of said funds?
We have of course Bishop's Storehouses which distribute groceries etc., to needy members, and Deseret Farms UK which help provide some of the produce which fill the storehouses in the UK, but I should imagine that a lot of the Deseret produce that is used over here in the UK is imported from the US Saints.

Malcom,
There is no provision within the accounts for Humanitarian aid spending being restricted to UK needs. However, we can say specifically that from the funds donated in 2009 to the Humanitarian Fund (£344,000) only £11,000 was spent, whether that be a UK or a SLC decision.
Deseret Farms UK is not a Church entity - the Church owns Agreserve in the UK which is it's farming arm.
According to the financial information held on the Welfare company of the Church in Britain as of December 2009 it owned two farming companies:
1. AgReserves Limited - turnover £8.5m
2. Anderson Farm (Buckworth) Limited - turnover (4 months only) £10,000

Hi Jon,
Thanks for putting me right.
I see that the church farming arm, Agreserve are allowed to receive huge EEU farm subsidies for their privately owned farms in the UK.
Though you are probably already aware of this. Just looked up farm subsidies online and see that the church is reportedly the largest foreign owner of UK farm land, I did not know that.
There is a link, if it works

Yes, I think they received a subsidy of circa £1.59 million if memory serves me right - one of the largest subsidies given in the UK.

There is no excuse for this kind of stupidity. Do the British taxpayers know their government is subsidizing the LDS church?
Not that my government is any smarter. *sigh*
(Nevo, Jan 23) And the Melchizedek Priesthood may not have been restored until the summer of 1830, several months after the organization of the Church.

Harmony, the subsidy is for all farmers and comes from European Union coffers rather than the Government.

Good grief. No wonder the EU is going broke... (not that I know much of anything about farming in Europe, but the church does NOT need subsidized)

Does the church claim charitable status? Churches which are also Registered Charities can claim tax breaks If I recall correctly in the UK and EEU generally. Perhaps this is true of the USA as well.
I shouldn't imagine any church pays tax on income, tithing?
I could be wrong though.

Both Church 'companies' in the UK are registered charities and therefore are exempt from paying tax on it's income.

Hi Jon,
Agreserves Ltd at Manor Farm, Woodwalton, Cambs is an arable farm growing wheat.
I telephoned them at Manor farm this morning and spoke to a nice lady Receptionist by the name of Ann
who told me that they work in conjunction with England Farm Properties, it was a bad line, but she informed me that they grow wheat and that they sent 2000 tonnes of wheat to Kenya a while ago, and that the church paid for the wheat and it's transportation to Kenya.
It's good to know that Humanitarian Aid is going out to less well off nations, but it would seem that it is the taxpayers of the EEU that have bought and paid for this wheat, with the almost £2 million pounds in farm subsidies that came from the EEU in the first place. There are no flies on COJCOLDS even if you can see where they have been.
England Farm Properties also run an LDS log cabin camp site in Feltwell, near Thetford, Norfolk.
