A great read, thanks for posting that!

Great post!

I have read so many accounts of people who began their exit out of the church due to apologetics. They learned of issues that were detrimental to their faith, and went running to FAIR and FARMS, only to have the issues strengthened due to weak apologetic arguments.

It's ironic that apologists are helping the LDS church "hemorrhage"...

Anyone here old enough to remember the Godmakers? And the slew of misinformation thrown at us to keep us from reading the stuff? It actually worked for most....I left the church long before I read any anti literature. I just got sick of the crap...

Yeah, I remember the Gawdawful Makers.

I actually met Ed Decker on my mission, in a little town in Southern Taiwan named Pingtung where he was sponsoring a showing of Godmakers at a local Catholic church. I and the other Mormon missionaries attended the first showing, and when the Jerry Springer-esque flick was over, Decker walks up and says hello. After exchanging a few pleasantries he gets a weird look on his face and asks in a low, conspiratorial voice, “Do know why they move you guys around every month?” “No,” one of us says, “tell us.” Decker replies, “It’s because your mission president thinks you’re all queer.”

Ed Decker...what a class act.

So what does this have to do with inoculation? Well, Godmakers was so poorly done & so over-the-top that I think it actually helped the Church's missionary efforts in the long run. It goes to show the sometimes inoculation results in incubation.

What would you say is the best example of an official or unofficial statement telling members not to read antiMormon literature?

What is the biggest whopper of a lie in Godmakers?

Are you asking me? I can’t think of any offhand. Sorry.

What is the biggest whopper of a lie in Godmakers?

The part where Godmakers claims that “Mormon” is Chinese for “Gate of the Devil” …or something like that. (Remember, Decker is showing Godmakers in Taiwan where the official language is Mandarin Chinese--what a dolt!)
