It is amazing that this variety on just one specific species of animal, was either all on the ark or, has evolved and migrated throughout the earth from the two bears that were on the ark during the last 4,000 years.
Now do beetles, it's way more hilarious.
for what it's worth, biologists are very good at using clocks in the genome to know EXACTLY when different species split from each other.... There doesn't need to be speculation when each bear population split, because we can actually find out.
Ridicule is the only weapon which can be used against unintelligible propositions. Ideas must be distinct before reason can act upon them; and no man ever had a distinct idea of the trinity. It is the mere Abracadabra of the mountebanks calling themselves the priests of Jesus."
Because the earth is only 10,000 years old and as Jeffrey R Holland has already told us - the American continent wasn't formed until after the great Flood which took place circa 4,000 years ago. Right?
not right
Which bit of the Lords anointed stated belief are you disagreeing with?

Further, we are not instructed to ignore science if there seems to be a conflict and claim Mormonism is right. Mormonism and science does not conflict. We are taught there is no conflict, that sometimes we simply need to know more of the Gospel or of science in order to know the actual truth.
For example, most Mormons tend to understand there is a difference between the scriptural record and the historical record. For example, most educated Mormons tend to believe in what's called "Pre-Adamites" as a possible explanation of the contradictory record. And there is evidences for this theory, so it's not just made up. But, it is a possibility.
Basically, we aren't taught to ignore one side or the other, only to keep learning and that we simply don't know everything yet. Issues such as this however are low in importance.
.
Other than the apologists like BC and a few biologists I have never heard most educated LDS claim a belief in pre-adamites.

They didn't "evolve". They were create via a manmade breeding system.
(Nevo, Jan 23) And the Melchizedek Priesthood may not have been restored until the summer of 1830, several months after the organization of the Church.
We were also instructed that if science etc produces information that doesn't fit with this then we were to ignore it because Mormonism is right. (I'm paraphrasing but the message was exactly this).
You've heard or read no such thing from the Church. The doctrine on D&C 77 is that the seals don't represent the time prior in which the earth was being prepared for man and the Old Testament student manual expressly forbids ascribing a doctrine on the age of the earth to the Church.

The Church specifies that the first man Adam fell circa 4,000 bc. The Church specifies that Adam was created on the 6th day. The Church specifies that one of Gods days is 1,000 years.
I reckon you can connect the dots from here...

BCSPace,
You response sounds like an "Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain" statement to me. The language in D&C 77 is pretty explicit.
Remember, this is Joseph Smith explaining Revelations with the direct help of God Almighty. Why do you not think that he meant what he wrote?
From D&C 77:
Q. What are we to understand by the seven seals with which it was sealed?
A. We are to understand that the first seal contains the things of the first thousand years, and the second also of the second thousand years, and so on until the seventh.
Q. What are we to understand by the book which John saw, which was sealed on the back with seven seals?
A. We are to understand that it contains the revealed will, mysteries, and the works of God; the hidden things of his economy concerning this earth during the seven thousand years of its continuance, or its temporal existence.
Sounds straightforward to me. And I am pretty sure that Joseph Smith and those who followed him believed it, as written, until they didn't.

Finally found the GD Lesson Manual online. However, unlike when I taught GD, teachers are now apparently allowed to give the lessons in any order they wish.
So my question for you is: Do you know which lesson (Title or Number) it was that gave rise to all of the scriptural cosmology and natural history described in the OP?
Thanks.
