I honestly believe you and a couple other monkeys actually rule this board. Hence the last several pages of a once thought provoking OP.

This board has lost its substance.

I'm out.

If you think this board is bad, you should try Gospel Doctrine classes...

Don't do that, Inconceivable. It's as easy to redirect back to the OP as it is to derail. The audience isn't the usual posters here. Not much chance of swaying their opinion, whichever side they are on. The audience we play to (knowingly or not) are the undecideds that read, but don't participate.

That's why bc and others try to derail. In the bigger picture they are losing (and losing badly).

Stay and fight the good fight.
This, or any other post that I have made or will make in the future, is strictly my own opinion and consequently of little or no value.

Thanks Quasi, I understand. Even though its been a dead thread for nearly 5 years, it has over 6500 views. It's a valuable piece of history in my opinion.

I have several that I'd like to resurrect if they'd be left alone by those who haven't the capacity to contribute thoughtfully on the subject matter. Not much depth here in the past 2 pages to demonstrate otherwise.

I'm tired.

BC...I agree that the book, "Miracle of Forgiveness", is not official LDS doctrine.

Would you give me your opinion on the following situation?

Many years ago, one of my best friends was excommunicated from the Church. (Since that time, she has been rebaptized, has sent all of her sons on missions, and is the current Relief Society President in her Ward.)

During her counsel with the bishop, she was asked to read "Miracle of Forgiveness" and report back to him weekly, discussing what was read.

Since this book is not doctrine, why do you think the bishop would ask her to read this book?

Yes, most every Bishop's office has one but not because the Church requires it. It contains quite a lot of doctrine that one could find elsewhere and nothing in contrary to existing doctrine that I know of (the best one can say about a work not published by the Church) and it's use appears to be traditional. My own opinion is that the Church should either make it official and publish it since it is used in this fashion, or at least publish something like it.

If it offends one that much, one may of course freely point out that it's not a doctrinal work. But a Bishop, since he has the keys, may legitimately require it for your repentance process if he feels it will do you some good.

Here is a link to official doctrine that may interest you:

Gawd. Liz, honestly, do you care what BC thinks? I think not. If you did, you could simply read his last 1500+ posts. Shallow. Predictable. His canoe has no paddles. What is it that attracts so many of you to this human bug light?

Nevermind.

No, I'm simply responding to the critic's overwhelming desire to present a straw man version of the Church and bringing things back on course. I wouldn't have to keep rescuing you if you would just stop driving over the cliff.

You guys are always asking for the Church's position and you're just angry that I keep bringing it to you before someone else chimes in with what you prefer the answer to be to satisfy your little chestnut view of what passes for reality.
