MONSON STORY

Post by _Roger Morrison »

Among my illusions re Mormonism, all have overtime been reduced to zero, with the exception of one... That sometime, some Prophet would have the character and integrity to come clean about the centuries of Mormon deceit.

I thought Thomas S. Monson might be the man to do that. To this point in time he hasn't.

Why do I think President Monson might have the integrity non others have had: Because, I well remember his initial priesthood talk in the Ossington Ave Chapel, in Toronto, when he became the new Canadian Mission President, replacing Pres. J.Earl Lewis, in the mid '50's. . .

President Monson told the story of the deceit he couldn't live with when he misrepresented himself in his School Band. In that situation he pretended to be playing his instrument, when in fact he was making believe. He consequently confessed, was forgiven, learned to play and took an honest position in the band.

IF President Monson were to do that today, (confess the falsehood of Mormonism) The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints could well become what it professes to be: The only truthful Christian church in Chistendom. . .

It's not the American Constitution that is hanging by a thread (Mormon mythology) It is the Mormon Church that hangs by a thread. A thread growing weaker as knowledge lifts humanity out of its remaining depths of mental / emotional poverty, and ignorance that stand in the way of knowing the truth-that-frees. . .

If not now, when?

He wasn't on time for the last session of General Conference. Perhaps that has something to do with the matter.

However, to get an accurate depiction of history the facts must also be accompanied with a record of the mindset of those involved. Otherwise history might be twisted, taken out of context or used for whatever method a historian may deem fit. Which in modern times may compare to the effect of "Crackhead Uncle Remus" vs. "Freed Slave Uncle Remus" So one must ask themselves the question is history actshul?

In the short term if Monson were to come clean the act would probably cause less damage in the long run. However the immediate anarchy on the Streets of Utah following the announcement would be something I'd like to see.

Over 5 years and 10,000 posts here and you can't think of a single thing, eh?
"The Church is authoritarian, tribal, provincial, and founded on a loosely biblical racist frontier sex cult."--Juggler Vain
"The LDS church is the Amway of religions. Even with all the soap they sell, they still manage to come away smelling dirty."--Some Schmo

Moksha,
THANKS FOR THE QUESTION.

The first vision, in the Sacred Grove did not happen as it is stated in its several ways.
There was no visitation of Peter, James and John restoring the Melchezedic Priesthood.
The Book of Mormon has no validity. Divine or otherwise.

Therefore all that was built on the false premises suggested above can be nothing but from human minds. As is the case with all else be they wonders-of-the world, master pieces of art, world changing technology, or children's play. . .
The human mind is very fertile ground. Some minds being more imaginative & creative than others. Joseph Smith having had a quite exceptional mind. But not one more in tune with Deity than others. Today's psychology labs can tell us more about him and his successors than many would like to know.

From its well conceived, disingenuous beginning, LDSism laid TEMPLEISM, with all of its adjuncts on the minds of their believers, as essentials to salvation / exaltation. A very heavy burden to bear for what a loving and gracious God promised to all of his children. (According to the Judaic-Christian story.)

That Mormonism is not as it declares -- the only True, God Sanctioned Church, it does have some good attributes:
Well organized, community conscious and responsive. And family oriented to their interpretation of "family" whose quality is more dependent on wise parenting than on prescribed Family-Home-Evenings lessons in the hands of authoritarian parents.

I'm sure much more can be said but I'll leave that for others. Any readers in attendance at that long ago historical meeting in Toronto??
Enjoy the day! Roger

Yeah, like that is going to happen. Although I would pay a lot of money to see President Monson in GC stating any of that stuff, even jokingly. The looks on people's faces alone would be priceless.

I would think being around here would educate you on how far one can delude themselves in the face of so much evidence to the contrary. Why do you think Monson or other church leaders present and past have not done the same. You can't get where they are without a lot of devotion and belief. Even Joseph could have deluded himself on many things to feel better about the his many deceptions.

Right, members would be in shock! Some elated. Others in utter despair!

However, the time will come when the truth shall be known. . .
The Berlin Wall did come down! Blacks can now hold the Priesthood! Garments could be made, and worn, in 2 pieces! Polygamy was outlawed! (twice!)

Still a few things to bring forward: Women having equal authority to males...
Non-member family members will be permitted to witness their children & grandchildren sealed in marriage . . .
Enlightenment is ongoing. Eventually, education and social justice work their purposes. . .
Look around at our world compared to that of the 1600s, 1700s, 1800s & 1900s & count yer blessings

Thanks for your comments.

I've been around those kind of people, within & outside of THE church for over 75 years. Nothing really surprises me. I live through disappointments encountered were I expected moral integrity to Trump ego and arrogance, in whatever their guise, rather unscathed AND undaunted. IF the glory of God is intelligence (not faith) Mormons do teach that, then INTELLIGENCE will prevail ... in time. Be patient Bro :-)
Enjoy the day!

LDSaints & their church, have probably changed more than any other christian church in, at least North America, or the world. . . WHY? Because they want public acceptance. And have generally received it, as they proved themselves good neighbors. At least in the less radical sects of Christianism and with the average persons who are indifferent to myths of Christian tradition. . . Like, "let them believe what they want. There's little truth in it anyway."

As the general masses become better educated, beyond high-school, religion will evolve from its theistic-mystic-magic state of being, enabling open discussion to reveal the unfounded fear of the unknown and of strangers. Behaving more as Jesus and other humanists have advocated for centuries. . .

Won't happen over-night. But give it a hundred years PLUS??? Think of the changes in the last 100+!!!
Black Americans are free AND have been accepted in Mormonism. Humans moon-walk & create artificial limbs. More changes to our world than Theologians materialized since humans took breath!!
Enjoy today, encouraging tomorrow!!!
