I think that you need to look at other groupings for the dislike.
I intend to lay a foundation that will revolutionize the whole world. Joseph Smith We are “to feed the hungry, to clothe the naked, to provide for the widow, to dry up the tear of the orphan, to comfort the afflicted, whether in this church, or in any other, or in no church at all…” Joseph Smith

Naw, I think it's just jealousy of all that coastline, plus Hollywood.

Every LDS friend of mine that has lived out of Utah county (not Salt Lake City or Park City) and moved back, has hated it. They loathe it and their skin crawls with disgust. It makes me laugh.
Even LDS faithful hate the religious culture as found in whole swaths of Utah regions once they get a taste of life outside of the Zion curtain. Utah county is the most noticeable, followed by Bountiful, Farmington, Brigham City and other smaller LDS-centric towns.
It isn't Mormonism per se, it is more of a mestasizing of religion and religious culture that just fills the air here like a dense fog of ignorance and fakeness.
