that is just the thing, I have serious concerns that the Bishopric's recommendation was not from "inspiration" but rather from convenience.
I know it is usual to defer to the one with the most stripes (highest Priesthood Office) but as you rightly point out, EQ is a Stake appointment, not a Ward appointment.
...
Perhaps it may be worth involving the relevant High Counsellor to help decide the outcome in a kind of 'best of three' type way. So he goes away and prays about the two names and comes back with who God tells him should be appointed.
not a bad suggestion.....
The downside to this is either you or the Bishopric member is going to feel slighted.
i already feel slighted, so that wont matter. However, this wont be my first "bucking" of the system per se. I tend to hold their feet to the fire on proper protocol etc... thanks

You and me both.
I remember attending a PEC where a member of the Bishopric presented an idea for some form of welfare type project for the High Priests and Elders that he wanted the Young Men (of whom I was President at the time) to participate in and support. I reminded them of the most recent Reach Out night that the Elders Quorum had arranged to which the Young Men had also been requested to support. I pointed out that not only had the Young Men supported it but that, along with the EQ President, we were the ONLY ones who had supported it. No High Priests, No Elders, No Bishopric. I said that yes we would support it but asked for a show of hands of the people present at the PEC meeting who would also be supporting it? *crickets* I was released shortly after and the welfare activity never went ahead.

Pick who you want. All you need is the bishops ok that a certain person is available and worthy for the call. The line of authority goes from the EQP to the SP.

I thought i had actually picked whom the "Lord wanted" but was presumably blocked by the before-mentioned bishopric counselor and told that their choice was someone that "needed a calling". They have otherwise been stalling and thus leaving the EQP in a lurch, where we have become desperate to take anyone, just as long as things will move forward. Feels like spiritual extortion of sorts.

toot. toot. Who hasn't been saddled with every one of these so-called callings if they live long enough?
Indeed. But the poll asked me to toot my horn so I did.
Actually, if you've lived long enough and have not been in some of these, one actually has cause to wonder about others perception of one's ability and righteousness. For example, if at all possible, we wouldn't call someone into the YM/YW presidencies who rarely shows up to Sacrament meeting but attends the rest of the block. Bad example for the kids. The Spirit directs, but only after studying it out........

Like I said, you only need the bishops approval that the person is available for a calling and that they are worthy of it. You don't need the councilors approval. You don't answer to the bishop anyways, but the SP. Has the bishop said person A can have a another calling and is considered worthy. If yes, then you can sit down with them and extend a calling to him as your councilor.

Really? I thought that a member of the SHC or SP had to interview & call members of the EQP.
