Not history?!? How dumb! You guys probably believe the US government was behind the 9-11 attacks also! You lefties are always looking for a good conspiracy, even if it's not there! Next, maybe you will be saying that there was no such person as Jesus Christ, it was all made up!

There is actually no historical record of Jesus (Yashua Ben Yosef) except some questionable remarks from Titus Flavius Josephus, an historian of the times.
I suspect there was someone who was later called Jesus, but there is no historical record of his life.

All of the scriptures are written in such a way that a person of the world will see the world and a person of the spirit will see the spirit. It tends to be a mirror. The error of the world becomes the error of scripture. And the truth of the spirit becomes the truth in scripture. When you love God you see the love of God. If you hate God then God becomes hate in scripture. Fill yourself with questions and scripture becomes so deep you can never get to the bottom. In my belief system calling the New Testament unreliable makes you ........

Come on gdemetz, put up the evidence that supports your assertion that Jesus was a real person.

I think you claim the comments are dumb because you can't give a reasonable response. No one is trying to rewrite history. The history is easy enough for you to look up.
And what's all this about 'far left'? You don't have any idea what my leanings are. You're just blowing smoke. If you came here to have intelligent discussions, you're going to have to catch up.

Re: Fulfilled Prophecy?
Even Jews (Non-Messianic) believe that Jesus was a real person. And they, more than most, might have reason to bury that reality. What they do not believe is that Jesus was the Messiah. Now, if a non-Christian Jew is willing to accept the historic truth of Jesus, it seems rather presumptuous for some heathen to assume otherwise.

Proof by the assurance of others....
I'm convinced! Jesus existed....... Now prove he was anything other than a good, decent man teaching be excellent to one another.

I am a good man. I must be god.

Every man has different requirements for proof. What I consider proof many consider an act of faith on my part. If you went to Jerusalem and found a bed with "Jesus slept here" carved into a bed post would that satisfy you? I think not. Maybe you and Thomas have something in common. If Jesus came to you and you placed your fingers into His wounds maybe then you would believe. But I think not. You would just say it was some guy with wounds and it means nothing. You would then need a sign, a miracle for your personal viewing pleasure. Even then you could think it was drug induced or somehow some kind of hypnosis. Or even manufactured by your own mind triggered by fear of death. You could've course rationalize any kind of proof and make it non-proof. Maybe if you were transported to the moon in an instant and suffered lack of air pressure for a few seconds you would believe. But I think not. The wall of disbelief is not in the acts that could happen but are in fact manufactured by your own desires of this world. Your embrace of this world will not allow the concept of something outside of this world to interfere with what you already know is true. This is why Jesus asked people if they had faith. Their faith allowed them to accept the miracle. Others who were embedded in doctrines of man accepted only a religion of man. These people saw miracles yet gave the power to Satan. They could not accept that what they knew as truth (religion of man) could be false. So please don't ask for proof when you already know that any proof offered will be rejected by you by some preformed template of responses. I have been through this exercise too many times and see right through you.
By the way I was prompted to come to this site strongly this morning. I wonder if the reason was to write this post.
