So is the whole debate with Tobin then just the pronouncement that your god can beat up his? Or have we devolved into a fit of biblical/prophetic navel gazing par extraordinaire?

That was great  SH. Actually, I made some comments in reply to the OP that Tobin obviously took umbrage at. It just went from there. Having been a Mormon for 13 years, serving a mission, and doing all the things that are required of a "Saint" I went to B.Y.U. in the early 80's and left the church after researching Adam-god. I was an atheist for 25 years. I had a life changing event happen to me in 2006, and I found my faith again. I actually had nothing to do with Mormonism all those years after leaving the church until some missionaries knocked on my door in 2008. I usually focus on Church History, but if conversations stray into beliefs, I sometimes will engage. From your comments, I gather you don't believe in the Christian God (sorry if I'm wrong) and having been down that road, I make it a point to not have religious discussions with atheists. (It's usually pointless). The reason I discuss Mormonism is in the tag line below.

There is no debate going on here Steelhead, merely a discussion. I know that God and an eternal existence awaits you. So, it is an inevitable and unavoidable fact.

I'm a proponent of Exu. Exu for Jesus 2012! Change you can believe in!

So all the scripture I quoted was false? Your hypocrisy is astounding.
It is not only your misuse of scripture that I find offensive. It is your misrepresentatations, misunderstanding, and misconceptions of Mormonism that I find offensive. Your statements and attitude is anything but how an honest broker would behave.

It's a start I guess. What a fascinating read that was. (Had to look it up).

Now you know how I feel about Mormon "prophets".

Tobin,
Instead of waiting for vindication in the afterlife, I have decided to be the bestest person NOW that I can. To fiercely love my wife and children and to be excellent to my fellow man.

The idea that after this life may be just a dirt nap no longer scares me. As long as my children and wife love me NOW then it will all be fine.

I hope you continue in doing that. People like you concern me because you never know what they may decide to do if this life is it and don't have to worry about the eternal consequences. I'm glad you have some kind of moral center, despite what you believe.

Wow, now you are suggesting that people like me have no moral center? When did a belief in god prevent people from being immoral?

When did such a belief become requisite for being moral?

Tobin, I think you are confused.

I think you will find the majority of murderers, liars, and adulterers in the western world profess belief in Christ. It has little impact it seems.

Tobin said:

I'm just playing around with you. As I said, I don't take anything you have to say as a serious criticism of Mormonism at all.

Pointing out the weaknesses and failings of the messenger has nothing to do with the message. If the message is truly from God, we should accept it.

Definitely confused, to put it mildly.
