In Priesthood this year we are learning from the Life and Ministry of George Albert Smith.

Why?


We have been told that:
The living prophet is more important to us than a dead prophet.

So why aren't we learning from the Life and Minstry of Thomas S. Monson?

we do, its called general conference, and by the assignment to study and learn from "the Life and Ministry of George Albert Smith", and everything else that is going on "today".....

So....

We should be expecting that in three hours worth of services, the words and teachings of the current living Prophet would form the majority of the material used. Why is priority given almost exclusively to dead Prophets and scriptures rather than what Monson says?

If that which the living Prophet, Thomas S Monson, teaches is more important than either dead Prophets or scripture;
How come Sacrament talk assignments aren't based on his quotes?; How come the Priesthood lessons aren't from a manual titled "The Life and Teachings of Thomas S. Monson?
How come we waste an hour in Sunday School each week going through the scriptural canon instead of each of Monson's conference talks?;
How come this years seminary and institute programmes don't reflect the importance of Monson's teachings?

Because that would be very, very, very, very boring. Does anyone really want to have spent the last four years and the next however-many-years-till-he-dies hearing the same boring stories over and over and over again? And even worse, to spend the entire three hour block on the same subject?

Personally, I loved it when they changed from using the old manuals to using the study-a-prophet manuals. After a lifetime in the church, I'd heard the old manual lessons too dang many times!

TSM is teaching, he has taught us that we should study George Albert Smith. When Einstein says you should study Ernst Mach it in no way diminishes Einstein.

How come Sacrament talk assignments aren't based on his quotes?;

they can be if the speaker is guided that way, but TSM teaches and instructs us that we should prepare sacrament talks in the manner that they are currently being composed and presented.

because TSM is teaching us that the lessons should be form a different manusl (it should be noted that the Conference priesthood session is headlined by TSM)

Because TSM has instructed that we should go through the scriptural canon...and we don't waste an hour, though the hour is obviously wasted on some (ehem...you).
