Book of Abraham Facsimiles 1-3; In Infographic format

Post by _afterallwecando »

**Book of Abraham Facsimiles Compared**

Interpretation of Joseph Smith vs modern egyptologist. In a visually appealing format for better understanding.
I refrained from drawing any conclusions in the slides. The data from both sides is presented.

Great stuff! I've never seen them side by side like this. Well done.

Nice job putting this together. I think the facsimiles are on the most damaging to the truth claims of Mormonism.

Thanks for those illustrations. As I understand it, even the few recognized Egyptologists who are still LDS admit that Joseph Smith's interpretation of those facsimiles is not even close to being correct. Can anything be more damaging to his credibility as a translator of ancient Egyptian than that?
No precept or claim is more likely to be false than one that can only be supported by invoking the claim of Divine authority for it--no matter who or what claims such authority.

Thanks very much. These look like they could easily be printed up in a size that would fit between the pages of a quadruple combination.

And this is why these should be removed from the Mormon Canon and repudiated. The Book of Abraham is not a translation of the Egyptian papyri.

You're right. Continuing to claim that the Book of Abraham really is a translation of the Egyptian papyri will ultimately cost the LDS Church far more embarrassment and loss of credibility than admitting what all recognized Egyptologists (including LDS ones) have unanimously concluded about the true nature of those papyri and the facsimiles illustrated in the Book of Abraham, and acknowledging that Joseph Smith was simply mistaken about them.

It would be interesting to see what would happen if the Church really did print them up and include them in the next edition and publication of the quadruple combination.
