Hi subgenius.

Number of UK congregations : 332 based on LDS published numbers.
Membership claimed : 188,000.

You were correct in stating that I used the average salary number for males (£30,000) rather than the figure you quoted for females (£26,000).

That's because most Mormon women are encouraged to marry young and have babies rather than work. However if you are more comfortable with a salary figure in between the two then that's fine.

Whatever way you choose to slice and dice the numbers, it will still show that the Church in the UK is weak. Activity levels are poor. Growth is non existent. Tithing payments are only made by a small percentile.

What does this mean?
It's under the section headed 'Pension and other post employment commitments'

"The cumulative actuarial loss as at 31 December 2011 is £13,460,000 (2010 loss of £7,610,000)"

Tangible Fixed Assets

Land & Buildings
1st January 2011 - £327,466,000
31st December 2011 - £254,770,000

Motor Vehicles
1st January 2011 - £2,418,000
31st December 2011 - £1,361,000

*£2.5 million worth of motor vehicles seems staggeringly high for a country with only 188,000 registered members.*

Employee's

The Church employed the following through 2011:
Teaching function 25 (2010 - 27)
Office administration 168 (2010 - 227)
Building cleaners 69 (2010 - 174)

Total 262 (2010 - 428)

Staff costs (excludes social security costs and pension costs) for the above persons £9,992,000 (2010 - £9,862,000)

*I've read this three times because I wasn't convinced i'd read it correctly. But it is correct. Headcount goes down by 166 but wages actually go up!*

Average wage costs per person employed by the Church = £38,137.40
UK national averages = Male £30,000 Female £26,000

its the difference between estimated and actual...common term used in pension accounting.

aside from the obvious reduction in vehicles, which has happened over here, on victory's side of the pond, as we see a push for missionaries to be on bicycles.
But what are we talking about? about 120 vehicles?
if we use your fancy method of interpolation, we can assume almost 1,000 missionaries in the UK (6 missions out 340, +55k missionaries)...that is one car for every 4 or 5 companionships....not unreasonable at all.

even less if you discount for the white panel vans being used for whatever nefarious reason you can surmise...like hauling huge sacks of cash all around.

Actually, given the vehicles they use over here retail for less than £10,000 it's nearer 250 vehicles. So that's one vehicle every other companionship (using your 1,000 missionary estimate).

However, you assume that the vehicles are all missionary vehicles. They're not.
The mission president drives a very nice vehicle. As do the other General Authorities assigned to the UK. The people heading up the education services etc (the one's earning £60k + per annum from the widows mite) also drive nicer than average vehicles.

CFR - mission president car owned by church
CFR - GA car owned by church
