PrickKicker wrote:So in your mind Moses was correct for ordering the killing of both man and beast, for touching a mountain. And you are Ok with that in your religion?
God ordered this. And yes, I believe one is fully accountable and needs to accept the responsibilities for one's own actions plus the full consequences thereof. You obviously are a product of the "me generation," who thinks they should be bailed out of everything they do and that I'm okay and your okay no matter what --- come what may. This is why the world is now in a deepening depression. For far too long people, have been allowed to behave as they wish, and imagine everyone else will take care of the results. Sorry, but this mentality was no good then and it's not working now. You've been told: don't take drugs, don't get drunk, don't mess around, do your homework, stay in school, study, and don't climb this or that mountain or you will die. If an animal has no excuse, certainly a human has none.
Christ came as the only Savior; however, those who reject Him will go to Hell. There are absolutes. This is exactly what Christianity ultimately teaches.
Does this ring any bells?
I am the product of a generation that demands reasons and our voices to be heard... I assume from your beliefs you are from a generation of Do as I say or I'll kill you?
I try not to make assumptions till I have heard someone make a statement.
PrickKicker: I used to be a Narrow minded, short sighted, Lying, Racist, Homophobic, Pious, Moron. But they were all behavioral traits that I had learnt through Mormonism.
PrickKicker, did your parents ever tell you that if you did something then they would spank you? And, did you go ahead and do it anyway just to see what would happen?
No so much my parents, but certainly my wife. So I go ahead and do it anyway, just to see what would happen?
Justified???
It never ceases to amaze me the vague links that religious people use to justify things... Killing man and beast, for touching the Mountain compared with smacking a child?
Mental.

The generation has so much reason that they acquire hundreds if not thousands of dollars in tattoo art while people are daily thrown out of work? I never killed anyone, and I would never have thought of giving an ear to rap artists who slander women, use the n word and chatter on of killing police officers. The fact is that yes, there were generations that demanded that a murderer or rapest be put to death; however, they didn't make up the rules as things happened. People knew exactly what to expect if that selected a particular path. And NO, I do not think that is anything wrong with spanking a child if that child is well aware that if he/she does such'n such that will be the resulting punishment.
Ok? Well I don't have a single tattoo so, I think that is another assumption or strong generalisation on your part. I was making fun of your first generalisation / assumption, in my comment 'I assume from your beliefs you are from a generation of Do as I say or I'll kill you?' I was not accusing you of killing anyone, and I agree that rap music is disgraceful.
I agree, Sometimes people do things that I believe warrant immediate execution. Believe me I would happily pull the trigger on anyone threatening another's life or limb, once I'd established the threat was real.
I spank my kids... I wouldn't command them to be stoned or shot for touching a mountain though.
Unless... I was up there inscribing some stone tablets, pretending to be from GOD, and convinced everyone I was up there talking with GOD and didn't want them to see that there was no GOD? Then I would probably want them not to live to tell the tale, then there's always some smart alec who asks what about animals being on the mountain, so order anyone insistent on coming close and animals on the mountain to be killed and make up some crap about unclean things, so people don't touch them.
Could you imagine if I went through all that just to come down and break those tablets that GOD had supposedly wrote, because I knew the people wouldn't be able to abide by those laws?
How could I cover that up?

Nipper, do you agree with this action/consequence...
25:11 When men strive together one with another, and the wife of the one draweth near for to deliver her husband out of the hand of him that smiteth him, and putteth forth her hand, and taketh him by the secrets: 25:12 Then thou shalt cut off her hand, thine eye shall not pity her.

loaded question - again
You are amusing how you cherry pick the scriptures, but it is just amusing...nothing more. you conveniently reference these verses out of context - seemingly negate that "hand" in that translation is more aptly "palm" or "groin" as it relates to concavity, and as she has publicly humiliated a man, she would have been publicly humiliated by her groin being shaved. Because the Hebrew text reveals that "secrets" in this verse is attributed more to his pubic hair than anything else.
If you are still confused you should learn about the Jewish punishment of depilation in babylon....which is similar to an "eye for an eye" - and as we see here it is not hand for a hand.
However, it is possible that it was her hand to be cut off..at which case "secrets" would be more intimate a region on a man's body...at which case her intention would be to prevent the man from being capable of reproducing - a huge no-no in that context...and Jewish law was very stern against such acts...though this law has long since been repealed. In Mesopotamia the cutting off of hands was a common punishment for a variety of offenses, not just stealing.
That being said, i can not say i would not have a certain desire for her to be punished if i was on the receiving end of such a situation.

Really? You are being smacked about by another man and your wife rescues you by squeezing his balls you would 'desire for her to be punished'?

I believe you are looking at this backwards. A guy is walking down the street and is attacked by another man. However, the man being assaulted is able to subdue his attacker and get the better of him. But then the wife of the attacker grabs the would be victim by the secrets to free her husband (the attacker). Such is being shown as one not to pitty. She has brought her troubles on herself, and in the wide scheme of things is shown to be the cause of her own mistreatment.
