Interesting. Thanks. I just can't see an excommunication happening. It would be crazy from a PR standpoint for the church. It would reflect incredibly bad on them. It just doesn't make sense.
Who were the 'two executives' the SP brought along? Strange.
The whole thing is strange.

18 months ago I was threatened with church discipline for my involvement with the John Dehlin "movement." I cowarded like a dog and ran with my tail between my legs. I so so regret doing so today. I let the church bully me into silence.
That will not happen again. I have a family of bishops, stake president and HCs... I was told "not to call home" if I spoke with the Washington Post reporter. I did the interview. Haven't seen my family in a year.
This kind of crap really pisses me off. I remember years ago when my bishop gave a not-so-subtle threat about what I wrote on the Internet. I immediately got in his face and told him in no uncertain terms NEVER to tell me what I can or cannot say or write. He never bothered me again. One thing I cannot abide is anyone (including a church) trying to infringe on another person's freedom to say whatever he or she wants.
Cwald, I'm sorry the LDS Church has not yet learned this very fundamental lesson and took it out on you. You (and every member) deserve so much better from "the only true and living church upon the face of the whole earth."

Actually, Packer's hand would be on the tiller (which controls the rudder) Packer himself would be at the helm - and hopefully (but probably not) in the wheelhouse, as well.

One of my TBM younger brothers decided it was just fine to tell me not not post truth's about the church on Facebook anymore (I do like one every 3 months or respond at rare times to their tbm postings). He said they were too upsetting. He posts 10 political garbage talking points a day, and had the gall to tell me what I could not post on my wall.
I told him if he didn't like it, to unfriend me, hide me, or fsm forbid, not read it........

Good luck.
Truth.
Peace.
That's awful. Many of the active LDS that contribute to MormonThink have the same concerns for fear of straining family relations too far and this current witch hunt is making it worse. That's one reason the majority of members of MT remain anonymous.

Truth matters until it contradicts the church.
Family relationships matter until a family member dares take hold of truth.
Truth is the enemy only of falsehood.

Now Dan, what is truth? It really is in the eye of the beholder as you know. MormonThink portrays itself to be a middle of the road site but it is actually designed to lead members out of the church. At least that was my take on reading that site years ago. I can understand why those who are attending church would receive some disciplinary action. I don't see the sight as giving truth. Rather I see it as a site that leads members out of the church. Thus, the problem that the local church as with such members.

What is the goal of MormonThink? To bring 'truth'? Or is it to lead people away from the church? Is the sight a wolf in sheep clothing? I seem to think so. And every church has the right to deal with people who are seeking to harm the church with disfellowshipment or excommunication. The church needs to be of one mind, no different from the time of Paul.

Cool. If I want it to be true that I'm the overlord of the world, it is true! Thanks, why me, for helping me see the light!

How would that site lead people out of the church? All they would have to do is invent their own truth and ignore MormonThink.

Can you imagine the scene at the excommunication if the national press were there?
Why would the national press care how a local LDS church handles disciplinary actions for people who attempt to lead people out of the church?
By the way, catholics have their own ways to excommunicate people or not to allow them to take the sacrament. For example, if a catholic divorces and marries again, they can't take the sacrament unless their previous marriage is annulled. All faiths have their rules.
