Try getting into the Temple (and therefore the Celestial Kingdom) without living it...You are not specifically asked if you 'covet' nor if you 'honour your father & mother' yet you asked specifically if you live the Word of Wisdom.
The WoW is more important in a worthiness measure than some of the commandments.
FACT.

Worthiness , uhhhg ... wORtHiNESs ,,, Its such an ugly word . I'd wager the alcohol was banned because it removes inhibitions and can lead to rebelliousness. If you want to keep people meek and worrying about worthiness , keep em off the sauce. Alcohol will only reveal what is harbored within a person allready , it doesn't make people mean if it wasn't there to begin with. But that's the problem with repressed feelings , they can be distorted and amplified when released after brewing for sometime. This can then lead to a pattern for dealing with those repressed feelings. Mormons can be some of the worst drunks in my experience.
And Ill bet the smokeing got banned because it went with drinking (atleast back then logic)
Then coffee because it went with smokeing. The rest because it sounded good.
But you have to remember the context from when it was created ... They were all useing these substances when they implemented the WoW. didn't they even have spittoons in the temple at the time? And I'd say it started after a drunken brawl one night , wakeing up saying ... oy`veh we've got to do something about this.
It's also worth noting that 'The Temperance Movement' was well under way by the time Emma kicked off at the brethren, prompting Joseph into a placatory revelation spookily similar in nature to it, now known as the Word of Wisdom...

yet the facts seem to prove you wrong, the following excerpts from TR quesitons contradict your assertion here: Do you strive to keep the covenants you have made? Do you have faith in and a testimony of God the Eternal Father, His Son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost? Do you keep the covenants that you made in the temple? conduct relating to members of your family that is not in harmony with the teachings of the Church? etc..

So what you are saying is that the commandments are just unspoken parts of other questions whereas the WoW is SO important it is questioned specifically.
That seems to support what I said...

WoW has already been established as a principle and one that is distinct from the commandments, but necessary to still mention...Just as the questions do not dictate every commandment singularly, neither is the WoW. One's treatment of their own family is specific in the TR interview, yet by your logic that would mean that treating strangers poorly is acceptable. Your tin-foil conspiracy hat is showing again.

I see you are reverting to your false premise game. The WoW is more important as a worthiness measure than the commandments. It must be because it is asked about specifically and explicitly during a recommend interview whereas the actual commandments are only mentioned indirectly or merely hinted at.

So, since the TR interview does not roll call through all 613 commandments, you consider that as revealing a position that they are not "as important" as the solo mention of the WoW, as well as the "treatment of strangers" mentioned above....got it!

613? Where did the additional 603 come from?
