With respect to love ... No

You can correct me if I get your position wrong, but I assume you mean that humans have evolved from lower forms of life including single cell organisms, but that love is not something that has evolved since the emergence of modern man. I don't disagree with this, but my only point is that since we evolved from organisms that do not have the capacity to feel or experience the emotion of love that somewhere along the evolutionary tree we did evolve this capacity.

For say a single cell organism, I would say we have some, but not in any absolute way.

Plus ... If love is the ultimate emotion ... why would it evolve?

This seems to be where some of the problem lies. First you cannot show that it is some ultimate emotion, and second I am not talking about love evolving, but the ability to feel or experience the emotion of love.
