I think many issues involving equality we should be suggesting we aim to get as close as we can, but you seem to be bringing up some absolute that is not achievable. Equality in the church or the job market is certainly a good goal, and when it comes to the job market we have certainly moved a long ways towards it in the last century. Now in sports and ability we should not seek equality.

i think he means that if women and non-whites want equal standing with white males in the church they have to work for it, not just expect their fairy godmother (Monson) to grant it to them.

so, comparatively speaking, one may argue that the church is quite liberal, with regards to discrimination, in these modern times.

Being Pope is like being Mormon Prophet - it's in the rules that you need a penis to hold office and, thus far, have white skin.
