Anyone who declares a victor before Alaska and Hawaii close is suppressing people from voting their conscience.
I agree, but that will happen no matter what unless it looks like it might be an electoral tie.
This morning, we presented our IDs at the polling station and voted for Romney and some other Wisconsin-like ballot issue to take monopoly bargaining power from the teacher's unions.
In Ohio, as of last Saturday night's early voting, Democrats had 145,000 fewer votes than in 2008 and Republicans had about 119,000 more than 2008 for a swing of 264,000 votes in the Republican's direction. Obama won OH in 2008 by 262,00 votes which means Obama's margin of victory in OH has already been erased in early voting.
Sure the Democrat's overall early election vote total is still higher than the Republican's, but now they have to depend on a turnout much greater than 2008 or a huge decrease in Republican turnout.
I pledge to get off-line in about five hours. There is no reason to anxiously wait for the results when nothing can be done at the moment of declaration except allow the victors to cheer. I won't know until morning. Detachment is good for the blood pressure.
Indeed. It angrys up the blood like the debates do. I probably will be spending the time playing Star Craft 2 or Panzer General 2 with just occasional glances at the TV, the radio, or the boards. Hard to get any work done today.
I posted this in another thread but I probably should have put it here:
If Ohio is the center of this election, then Hamilton county will likely determine which way Ohio goes. It's about 2/3 Republican (metro suburbs of Cincinnati) and 1/3 Democrat (urban Cincinnati). Obama won it in 2008 by a few thousand votes.
Total population 800,000 (a drop of 50,000 from the year 2000). Anecdotal word now coming out of polling stations predicts a 75-80% turnout in the Republican precincts there. Democrat precincts way down but no word of a percent.
The entire metro area encompasses 2,000,000+ people but the word is Hamilton county is the county to watch.
Polls beginning to close. I should have bought some wine yesterday. Why does my state have no alcohol sales on election day.

That's outrageous! No alcohol on the very day when some might need it the most?
Fortunately, I live in a state where a good bottle of wine is available on election day (even though I suspect I will not need to drown my sorrows). I might be popping a champagne cork, though.

maybe, but those "suppressed" people obviously have weak minds and thus might not even be aware that today is the day to vote. but by all means, do what you can to make sure that every moron is able to vote (Obama needs the support)

I think it goes back to when saloons were more prevalent as political centers and were often used as voting locations. The ban was about keeping people even-keeled as well as to cut down on alcohol bribery. But it hurts I can't go get some cheap Manischewitz from Liquor Barn.

No doubt it cut down on politically instigated saloon fights, as well.
Had I know you were going to be in this predicament earlier (and I had your address) I would have sent you a bottle of something a little better than Manischewitz.
