Hi LDS

ldsfaqs wrote:Anti-Mormon is a very easy definition.....

In it's base form it's simply someone who's against Mormonism.

Given this, I guess I am an anti-Mormon.

Also, given your base definition, would you consider Mormonism to be anti-Christian?

As far as you Ceeboo..... From what I've seen of you, I don't per-se see you as an anti-mormon, thus not a bigot. But, there have been an occasion where you do state something that is anti-mormon,and thus in that instance you are acting like an anti-mormon.

Like? (This is a serious question)

Though, you have been more of one here than you were on MADB. so you feel more free to say what you really believe, which sadly has more bigotry to it.....

Like? (Again, a serious question)

You are in a way correct. Internet antimormons are certain an anti bunch of antimormons. But most likely, many of them would never voice their antimormonism in public. They would sound like bigots and hate mongers. Thus, they vent their spleen on the internet without fear of discovery.

Ceeboo, I know that you aren't stupid. Most of the threads on this board are antimormon. And you know it. Go to an anticatholic board and read all the anticatholic posts on the board, and tell us how you feel. You would feel the same way as a Mormon on this board or on the catholic taliban board reading such posts that degrade your faith.

Hey again, LDS

ldsfaqs wrote:
No.....

"Anti" means "against"..... A Mormon is not "against" anyone else.

While I will surely not suggest that any individual Mormon is against anyone else, Mormonism surely is against everyone else (All Christians). Yes?

And this has nothing to do with what Ceeboo asked.

Hi Bud!

I've been called anti-Mormon more times that I can count on this board. I think it may be a defensive, knee jerk reaction on the part of those with little or no legitimate arguments concerning the very checkered history of the Church.

I'm starting to wonder if it's not some sort of badge of honor.

I have no ill feelings towards Mormons. As a whole, they are very nice people. I might say that some of my best friends when I lived in Utah were Mormons, but I know how that sounds.

Like you, my disagreements are only about doctrine. Maybe you and I are 'anti Book of Mormon'.
This, or any other post that I have made or will make in the future, is strictly my own opinion and consequently of little or no value.

Hold up - Ceeboo disagrees with Mormonism, he questions Mormonism and it's claims/practices, but above those things my experience of Ceeboo has been that he is respectful of the people who practice Mormonism.

I can't see how that would *ever* make him an anti-Mormon. Being 'against' Mormonism certainly leaves plenty of berth for questioning and disagreement.

Now, me, I'm probably closer to an anti-Mormon. I *have* actively dissuaded two of my nephews from serving missions and I have given one of them enough information to go inactive. I've spoken ill of the church and it's practices to my workmates and friends in order to prevent them from ever affiliating with the LDS church.

But Ceebs? I doubt it.

Hey Ceebs,

First thing, is to ignore any attempt to define the term “Anti-Mormon” by looking at its constituent parts. A fine example can be seen from the FAIRWiki:

It is somewhat strange that critics of the Church wish to somehow divest the term "anti-Mormon" of its clear meaning. It is composed of two elements:

1) the prefix anti-
Noun: "A person who is opposed to something, such as a group, policy, proposal, or practice"
Adjective: Opposed
Preposition: Opposed to; against.

2) ...and Mormon, as a colloquial term for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

This is fallacious thinking, since the semantics (meaning) of a word has nothing to do with its parts or origin. The meaning of a word really comes from the intention of the speaker and if that is not available, contextual clues.

I think the term “Anti-Mormon” is used by defenders of the Church as a type of code for other faithful Mormons. If someone or something is labeled “Anti-Mormon” it is an indication that this person/book/website is safe to ignore.

You’ll get blustering types like ldsfaq who like to control the discourse by attaching the term bigot to “Anti-Mormon” by making the latter a subtype of the former. This is just a strategy to frame discussions heavily in favor of the apologist/defender camp, giving them the power to poison the well at their leisure.

Oh, you mean the way you suck up to your nun and priest friends, then come in here, and every other forum and bash the Catholic church?

Don't you get tired of being a hypocrite?
