I really don't think anyone should go on a mission at 18 or 19 years old. They should seek an education or a trade first. After they have established themselves as a working adult and IF they feel the need to serve in their community, I think the Church should support them in a two year mission to help and serve in the community in which they live. That would do more to promote Mormonism (and living a Christ-like life of service) than anything that is going on today.
Oh my.
The church would dry up within one generation.
I think not. Many more will come because they are born into the church. And as the rest of the population lowers their collective birthrate it seems obvious to me that the church will continue to grow. Just my opinion.

obviously you see no difference between temporal service and spiritual service...which is altogether another discussion, doncha think?
Besides, they are engaged in a public service.

horrible and bigoted generalization you are offering here....a far cry from the reality of offering people an opportunity to decide for themselves.

yes, Utah is about at 41...but still better than D.C., New Jersey, New York, Mass, Connecticut, Delaware....hmmm...perhaps you are not aware of who the majority of enlistees are?
The regions run South, Midwest, West, then Northeast..........

huh?

Such a warped view that you equate these as callings somehow.
