She has no credibility, but in my opinion an objective reading, not based on Rosebud’s testimony but on the actual timeline of events and on the presented documents indicates sexual harassment, facilitated by Dehlin and also by the Open Stories Foundation board at the time. It is not excusable by saying that there was no policy at the time in place, especially when board members now look back and say there was no sexual harassment.
It is still the case that a subordinate’s employment was terminated because of an inappropriate relationship with a superior. Rather than dealing with the situation, the Open Stories Foundation board at the time chose to distance itself and get rid of the subordinate in an attempt to not take responsibility. And to this day, the Open Stories Foundation board and Dehlin continue to argue that there was absolutely no impropriety on their part in doing so. in my opinion, the fact that they continue to argue this has severely diminished their reputation. Maybe they are doing it to avoid any future liability, but it just reads as an incredibly dishonest position.
It’s always been clear that Rosebud exaggerated her story, and that she also bears considerable responsibility here, but this latest episode has firmly entrenched, in my mind at least, the impression of a significant lack of character on the part of Dehlin and those on the board of the OS foundation who were involved in getting rid of an employee directly as a result of a superior and a subordinate pursuing a vastly inappropriate relationship.
Lem, I very much appreciate the dispassionate approach you've taken. I'm largely in agreement with this. I'm probably a teeny, tiny less convinced that the evidence suggesting she was terminated is as solidly convicting of the board and Dehlin.
1. It's a little murky in that she clearly showed signs of trying to push Joanna out, which could be grounds for concern for the board and Dehlin regardless of the affair. This might be good enough reason to fire her.
2. And the solution for them to resign and be brought back on was an agreed upon solution, it appears. She may have simply gone back on her agreement after her plan to push Jonna out was not working and, after showing her cards, they were likely not going to bring her back. Which probably put her in quite a bind.
She loses credibility each time she or a follower of hers speaks up, it seems.
She now has 2 GoFundMes. 1. set up to get donations for her kids' college--because they lost opportunity due to their mom's affair. 2. set up to get a lawyer "to protect myself from John Dehlin and the Open Stories Foundation".
Neither of those make sense. She apparently lost a bunch of money getting caught up in what she seems to think was a racketeering scheme, and she's mentioned that in her requests for donations.
