I think there's a danger in extrapolating a single incident into a larger contextual meaning. The Zimmerman case ultimately wasn't about profiling, "Stand Your Ground", gun rights, injust incarceration rates for different races etc.

While these are all very real issues, what happened between Trayvon Martin and George Zimmerman last year was a specific event that happened to two specific people under specific circumstances. And that situation can only be judged by the laws in effect at that time, based on the evidence available.

Any outcome that would be influenced by the "larger issues" would be an unjust one.

Blacks are more in the system, get longer sentences etc. ENTIRELY because they commit more crimes.

There's more men in prison than women therefore the judicial system is sexist.

I'm not saying that there is no discrimination going on against black people. But to say the only reason there are more blacks in jail than whites is because of racism is as ridiculous as the statement I made above.

And when the confederates saw Jackson standing fearless as a stone wall the army of Northern Virginia took courage and drove the federal army off their land.

Let's all play that game.

If you're interested in studies that tell the opposite view debunking your studies, they are readily out there for you to look up, if you were actually interested in the truth.

This is a discussion forum. I'm relaying things according to my own experience, learning and observations. It is not requisite to post links to every statement a person makes.

People aren't convinced by anything anyway unless they do THEIR OWN work.
So, what does your "posturing" really do? I post links all the time when I have the time and interest. Stop being stupid and a petty little child.

I'm well familiar with your claims, and they are false. I've done the work to know FOR MYSELF.
Do your OWN due diligence please, and stop blaming others for your lack of diligence.

Let's remember now this started. It began when you posted the comment:

ldsfaqs wrote:You people are the liars, and are the actual ones who "make stuff up" etc. because of YOUR beliefs and opinions, making up facts.

I was responding to the idea that "you people" (love that expression) "make stuff up". So then by linking to studies, I was in directly responding to your allegation that we "make stuff up". I then challenged you to bring documentation that you don't "make up facts' or 'make stuff up':

MeDotOrg wrote:Your anecdotal encounters with law enforcement are not a 'study'. If your encounters were with a public defender's office you might find a different set of anecdotes.

To which you replied:
ldsfaqs wrote:"I'm relaying things according to my own experience, learning and observations"

Ah splendid, now we're getting somewhere! One should not reply upon data outside of subjective opinion in formulating one's personal opinion.

I shared data that helped inform and support my opinion. When I asked you to do the same, you said I should look for it myself.

Imagine there are two legislators, both working on a bill to reduce methamphetamine abuse.

Let's say you are the first legislator. You create a draft of legislation, with studies to back up your positions.

Now let's say the second legislator disagreed with your proposal. He says "You people are the liars" and that you ''made stuff up'. But he refused to provide any documentation for his own position, stating that was your responsibility.

I think that most people would think that the second congressman, was, at best, extraordinarily lazy, or at worse, someone who was afraid to put his opinions up to any sort of verification.

We're not congressmen, but we are advancing opinions. Hopefully those opinions are not exclusively the product of our own subjective experience (especially when it comes to the formulation of methamphetamine policy!)

ldsfaqs, In religion or philosophy, light is seen commonly seen as a metaphor for truth. All I'm asking is for you to shed some light on your opinions, with some form of data other than subjective experience.

But it is like you want the light of truth only shining on your subjective reality. You refuse to share any objective data sources outside of yourself to back up your opinions.

We need to have something in addition to our subjective experience in coming up with a rational way of dealing with the problems of a nation of 300 million people.

Here on the planet Maturia, we provide documentation for our own arguments. We don't say that it's someone else's responsibility.

Good one Ajax..... The prison system is sexist.

And you know very well that if more women were in prison, that they were primarily the "bad" of society, they would certainly conduct a study saying it's because society is "sexist".

But, of course because it's men in prison, liberals don't care.
