Difference in Cultures - Do you understand what reality is?
[NSFW]
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=pl ... J3B3Jgunck
When I had my tete-a-tete with Ms. Beastie over the TM case, I was struck by the fundamental lack of understanding by the Liberal Whites on this forum ref Black folks, and the people who know and understand your average Black culture (You know... Because we actually live among and work with Black folk).
If you take the time to watch this video, do you think this is an anomaly, or do you understand this is how Black culture is? My take is most Whites who are overly sensitive to cultural differences haven't spent any time among Black folk, and are projecting their morality onto them. I don't think that's right.
I don't make any value judgements on the video, but can this video be considered normative of Black culture?

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. told a congregation in 1961. "We know that there are many things wrong in the white world, but there are many things wrong in the black world, too. We can't keep on blaming the white man. There are things we must do for ourselves."
I don't suppose we'll ever hear this included in the conversation about race they think we should have. Martin Luther King was closer to the truth over 50 years ago. It seems to me like things have gotten worse instead of better. If it doesn't fit the narrative of blaming white men, it's not going to be a part of the conversation.
And when the confederates saw Jackson standing fearless as a stone wall the army of Northern Virginia took courage and drove the federal army off their land.

Saying this video is "normative" of black culture means that you are making the value judgment that this is how black culture ought to be. If you think this video is "normative" of black culture, you are in fact making a value judgment.
Droopy misuses the word normative all of the time, too. Is misusing fancy-sounding words descriptive of trailer-trash culture?

I think every liberal should have to put their own kids on that bus.
Although Florida came under fire in the wake of the Trayvon Martin shooting and George Zimmerman's acquittal by activists Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson - who called it an "apartheid state" - neither has spoken publicly about the bus incident. But one reason the case has not become as racially charged as other attacks may be that many news outlets have either not shown the first few seconds, before the victim goes down behind a seat, and others blur out his face to the point his race is no longer apparent.

Welp. There you go. Right into the insults. Mine was a question, not a statement. And I used thst gersh dern fanciful werd correctly.
What I find interesting is your outrage. What I'm getting at is this:
Are White Liberals practicing a subtle form of racism by projecting their values onto others (Black Folk in this case), when the two groups simply have different social mores?
I posted the video, because in my experience this is reflective of their social sense of humor... Which I think could be uncomfortable for WL's.
I was interested in WL opinions ref the OP. As for me I think the video funny, edgy, and clever.

normative (ˈnɔːmətɪv) — adj
1. implying, creating, or prescribing a norm or standard, as in language: normative grammar
2. expressing value judgments or prescriptions as contrasted with stating facts: normative economics
3. of, relating to, or based on norms
Anyway, I didn't engage the OP because it is based on the premise that there is a homogeneous "black culture" about which we can generalize. That is a non-starter.

I typically try to use the most common definition of the word, but hey... If you have to work that hard to understand everyone then what can I say.
Also, I attempted to caveat by saying "... your average Black culture." If you require someone to endlessly caveat their words and observations, then I'm not sure how you function. To me, the comedian, and the audience were what I would consider average Black folks. Just like your average White folks, we're both workaday, go watch performers, and enjoy ourselves with lowbrow entertainers.
Using generalities is OK in order to make a point. That said, I understand your hesitance to engage in dialogue. No worries...

I think we need some balance, here.
This may be a normative example of White culture. What do you think?

This, or any other post that I have made or will make in the future, is strictly my own opinion and consequently of little or no value.

Forgive me in advance for belaboring the point, but when the first definition says a "norm or standard," it is talking about the the proper way things should be done. For example, ldsfaqs normally says things like, "your a LIAR!!!", but just because he normally talks that way doesn't make the spelling and grammar normative. Normative grammar is the grammar that should be used--it is a value judgment about the correct way to use the language.

Wow, that's an eye opener. I guess I'm overly sensitive to cultural differences haven't spent any time among white folk. I feel bad for projecting my morality onto them.
