Yes, I had thought it to be Christian Whitmer, with whom I associated the writing on the bottom portion of the Jacob Hicks photo I discovered, but that was only on the basis of the opinion of those like Royal Skousen. I'm glad Brent can finally pin this down. I'm sure he has compelling evidence. I am certain it's not John Whitmer, as those from the JSPapers think. It is obvious from handwriting analysis.

It's right here. Take a shovel. Maybe a metal detector.

You "anti-Mormons" are all the same - liars and stupid too.
Who goes searching for a "stone" box with a metal detector?
All you'll find with it is your shovel![/ldsfaqsMode]

Oh come on, I'm sure he meant to bring your ground penetrating radar. Don't you have one in your garage? I certainly do.

Surprise, surprise, there is no divine mandate for the Church to discuss and portray its history accurately.

Not a bad ldsfaqs rendition! I love the "scare" quotes. You will have to work in a little misspelling and a bit more bad grammar to make it really authentic, though.
I was thinking that, just by chance, one of those golden plates went unnoticed and was still at the bottom of the box.
This, or any other post that I have made or will make in the future, is strictly my own opinion and consequently of little or no value.
