So, if anything, it puzzles me how you're not talking about how JD is the one digging a hole by outing himself as prematurely ejaculating adulterer when he's been propping himself as a wholesome family man who gollyshucks still considers himself Mormon after all this time.

You seem to be implying that JD needs to be self flagellating himself over this like the opening scene of Da Vinci Code. Is it possible that JD made a mistake and has moved on with his life? Since when is JD's life supposed to be characterized by this mistake? Many terrible people have great marriages and are great husbands/wives. Many great people have terrible marriages and are terrible husbands/wives. And vice versa. I'm just perplexed as to why you think that because JD had and affair and doesn't have a flashing neon sign in the background of MS podcast saying "I had an affair!", that he must be a terrible human. Maybe he wants a dark part of his marriage that caused his wife and kids considerable and even unforgivable damage to be forgotten? Wouldn't you want the same? Especially if you chose them over the person you were having an affair with?

I've been listening to MS for years and I've never once gotten the indication from JD that he is this 1950's caricature of a family man as you think he self portrays. If anything what caught my attention was in interviews where the interviewee divorced or had martial issues he sympathized and mentioned that his marriage has had rough patches even to the point of near divorce (I'm assuming he was alluding to this). That surprised me.

It's a classic PR move. He anticipated the story coming to the forefront so his hand was forced. It looks better if he admits to it first. It had been private up till this point.
