Not knowing any context to the remark I can only remark with an immediate impression. I cannot consider a Christianity having lost ideals to be Christianity. I think many people would find it easy to agree with that. I have some reservations about radical. The word is at least potentially naïve and vain. I do not see any particular place for naïvété accept that it is a naturally occurring condition for people. Vanity occurs a lot for the same reason.

Think of this in terms of Joseph Smith creating a religion that was radical in nature, rather than as a concept which becomes threatening as a religion grows stodgy in nature.
