Re: Makelan - A romantic incentive
Well, I think it's safe to say we learned a few things about Mak in this thread.
He's a handsome man. Except he doesn't think so.
He joined the church because some little Philadelphia broke his heart. Except she didn't.
God spoke to him to join the church. Except he didn't.
God continues to speak to him to stay in the church. Except it's not like that.
He was part of the Dallas Buyers Club. Except he wasn't.
He has a unique conversion story. Except he doesn't.
He has a testimony. Except we have to go to his ward members to have them share it to us.
He in no way is like all the other Mormons. Except he is.
And.... if my math is correct. He is 34. He works from home for the church, probably in the south valley somewhere and likely has 2 maybe 3 children which is really why I believe he is a member today. Nothing wrong with that. After all, it takes big balls to leave the church. You'll lose your job and you'll have to tell your wife her eternal marriage is ruined and that she and the kids will have to find a new priesthood holder to take them through the veil at the end days.
Good thread fellas.

Sanctorian,
You forgot to mention that Mak is also an apologist. Except that he's not.

Irony.
When anon posters are not satisfied with the explanations someone gives about their real life.

Triple irony.
When an anon poster tells other anon posters they are not satisfied with a non-anon poster, and posts the same anonymously.

Guilty as charged.
Maybe us cowards could cut Mak some slack for being more open than the rest of us, especially about his personal life.
But then, maybe for some, trolling is more important.

Look, I'm not asking Mak to post intimate details of his real life. I don't need to know his name or wedding date or SSN. I actually have a genuine interest in people that can know the issues of the church and can still find a place in it. 99.9% of chapel Mormons do not visit these boards. Mak does. That is interesting to me. If he has some insight as to why he is able to visit these boards, discuss the issues, and still find peace in the church, I'm interested in that. He chooses not to share with us those reasons and he can certainly do that, but I see no harm in asking and will continue to ask even if he continues to say no.

Can't see why he's so reluctant to talk to you about it when you obviously have so much respect for him.

You're right, Molok. It's not like LDS have been directed to "Share Your Testimony with the World" at General Conference numerous times, or in countless other publications. Or anything like that.

Molok, I'm pretty sure most LDS would find your equating the sharing one's testimony to "dancing like a trained monkey" highly offensive.
And yes, it's always best to respect the Sanctorian when he wants to be entertained.
Speaking of dancing, Mak used to be a member of the famous Dallas B-Boyz. Except he wasn't.
