nothing, nada...crickets...Stake Presidency called last Thursday (Counselor) to talk about unrelated matter...when i first answered his call (no pun intended) i was infused with an elevated sense of being, preparing my mind to hear that familiar question as to whether i would be available to meet at church this Sunday....then...BYU Pathways. ...
Sunday came around...only a high council member on the stand with Bishopric....change in ward mission leadership, cub leaders released/called, and a family's records were read in....
Then found out one of my counselors will be moving soon due to employment change within airline (pilot).
Which on another subject, in about 4 years i will have burned through a total of 5 counselors total (counting the 2 i have)...to which i had a high council member remark - "that certainly is quite unusual".
Never the less, I will give it another week, maybe two, before the resolution between the Bishop's inspiration and the Apostle's declaration is apparent.

a colloquialism of sorts...when a new family moves in and starts attending but their records have not yet been received by the Ward...once the records are received, they are recognized from the pulpit by having their individual names announced and they stand in recognition, etc.....sorry if you thought an itemized account of their church account history was being presented...which admittedly would be more interesting.

I have been an attending member of the Church for decades and I have never, ever, witnessed that happen.
I wonder if it's a local thing?

When membership records are received in a ward and when converts are baptized and confirmed, a member of the bishopric introduces and welcomes the members in the next sacrament meeting. He reads each person’s name, invites the person to stand, and asks members of the congregation to show by the uplifted hand that they accept the members in full fellowship in the ward. Records of family members are read together. If a member knows any reason why a person may not be entitled to full fellowship, he or she should talk to the bishop privately.

After children who are members of record are baptized and confirmed, a member of the bishopric announces each child’s baptism and confirmation in sacrament meeting. These children are not presented for acceptance into the ward because they are already members.

Holy Crap!

Most of the time the family/member doesn't even show up. The records are sent from SLC to the new ward because the Church has a new address for the family/member. So the Bishop/Counselor stands at the pulpit reading the names, and everyone in the pews looks around to see who's standing. But nobody is standing. It's entertaining.

I have been an attending member of the Church for decades and I have never, ever, witnessed that happen.

Go me thinking. It will be 11 years this next March since I have rejoined the Church. I have heard that expression of reading the records in several times since then.

It seems to me that the introduction should be a bit more detailed, such as introducing them slowly one at a time - so I can have a chance to repeat the name to myself several times or I will invariably forget it - and where they are from. Applause for a welcome instead of raising hands seems friendlier.
