The OP seems to overlook the obvious "bruised heel" pay off the crucifixion.
Brevity is dead.
Brevity is dead.

God did not require anything. . The Law did. Similar concept to God being unable to lie or be unjust.
What law? And who came up with it?

Good questions and I may not have good answers for them.

God's LAW as given to Moses. This LAW represents God's perfection and displays our inability to keep it.

Why was the 'law" only given to Moses? What about all the other peoples of the world? Is god a respecter of persons? This is way I am turned off by religion. It is exclusionary. God has a chosen people (the ones in charge of the record) and everyone else can pound sand.

God chose a people through which He intended to bless the rest of the world. The rest of the people were found to be inconsiderate of God, but Abram (Abraham) was found to be acceptable. However, God always intends to bless all the nations through this chosen people. And this is what finally happens through Christ, who brought Salvation to the whole earth --- making Christianity possible.

Little Nip is, as usual, confusing the issue. The law I was referring to was not the mosaic law.

Subgenius,
Thanks for your humble reply. Respect increased.
I see pros and cons for believing in Jesus as Savior...
Cons:
-Human sacrifice is icky and inhumane, even to hope for it. "Thou shalt not kill" you'd think if it was a godly law, would be respected by God in such a significant matter
-Scapegoating shifts response-ability
-Christ is not Jesus' last name nor some exclusive ideal, but what we all can and should strive for
-False god - even Jesus discouraged worshipping him- False idols that breed prejudice (ie white pictures of Jesus throughout places of worship) We're more likely to miss the mark in following the warpings others have done to scriptures.
Pros:
-It provides a personification of spirituality easier to relate to than abstract concepts like "God is love."
-It can inspire compassion & forgiveness beyond without such belief
-Hope that we're so loved worth suffering & dying for

“Christ” comes from christos, a Greek word meaning “anointed.” It is the equivalent of the word mashiach, or Messiah, in Hebrew. Peter actually said that Jesus was the Messiah, the Son of the living God. There is but one Messiah. Christ means Messiah. A saved person can be "Christ" like. But that is the best a human can become through the Holy Spirit.

LittleNipper,
Interestingly, I was just reading in 1John about how we all can be annointed and do not require a teacher.
I don't believe everything I read, whether it's 21st century online stuff or 5th century warped stuff.
I think of annointing as being bestowed with God's blessing, and I see this applies to everyone to a degree. I do believe we need teachers, but are fools to make idols out of them as if all they say & do is infallible.
Christ is not Jesus's last name, & why would Jesus say "Follow me" if we were unable to?
