My logical guess is that Joseph Smith would have likely discovered Scientology.

Surprise, surprise, there is no divine mandate for the Church to discuss and portray its history accurately.

Neil DeGrasse Tyson: "If you’ve been around 1,000 years you’re a religion, and if you’ve been around 100 years, you’re a cult. That’s how people want to divide the kingdom."

This sounds educated but it isn't scientifically accurate. A cult is secretive and defines power in terms of withheld knowledge know only to its "membership". In this way a cult essentially remains a cult as long as it exclusively withholds knowledge, practices and hidden rituals from the general public. Christianity has always been about revelation. Go to the world and preach the Gospel is not the thing a cult is designed to practice.

Cults hate democracy because it allows for the open presentation dispersion of information freely. This is why removing general Bible reading from public education has had a detrimental affect on the "educated". Cultists don't want their knowledge revealed but also hate competition to their own way of managing. Just like a "gay" doesn't what to be told that homosexuality is immoral, and so attempts to eliminate all opportunity for confrontation except for his own expression, or the evolutionist wants all "in-depth" explanation of Creationism/Intelligent Design excluded from "their arena" as it compromises their own explanation.

The cultist hates competition that exposes his own beliefs to scrutiny. Christians love scrutiny because it means that seeds are being spread unwittingly. Salvation is free. Control is exclusive and manipulative. Cultist lose power where they are allowed to be exposed and comparisons are revealed openly and broadly.

Nope, not even close. Here's the dictionary definition of cult:

Cult (plural cults)

1. (offensive, derogatory) A group of people with a religious, philosophical or cultural identity sometimes viewed as a sect, often existing on the margins of society or exploitative towards its members.
2. Devotion to a saint.
3. (informal) A group of people having an obsession with or intense admiration for a particular activity, idea, person or thing.

In other words, Christianity is a cult.

Pure baloney. You're simply making this crap up.

How does it feel to be a member of a cult?

ONE dictionary editor's view, likely a recently edition.

Nope--we're discussing whether you're a member of a cult, not same sex marriage.

So how does it feel to be a member of a cult?

Nope, we're considering if one definition is more correct than another. Like a solution vs. suspension --- salts in water vs. sand/mud in water....
I do not belong to a secret society --- do you? :surprised:

The difference between "in solution" and "in suspension" is a matter of opinion???
