I wonder if we will see any push back from the Gay community?

Isn't this like blaming the children for the sin of the parents? Is that really what Jesus would do?

Re: Changes to Bishops Handbook
How different is this than the Church refusing to baptize a minor without the parents? The idea being that it would be better for a child who will likely not have the support to remain active in the church to postpone baptism until he has the capability to live up to the covenant.
I'm not sure why anyone who has chosen to homosexually legally marry would be interested in continuing their membership in the LDS church. Did the church not excommunicate people who were unrepentant and chose to remain in such relationships in the past?

And when the confederates saw Jackson standing fearless as a stone wall the army of Northern Virginia took courage and drove the federal army off their land.

Well an 18 year old with hetero parents does not have to:
Move out of the house
Denounce the parents lifestyle
Before getting baptized. So there must be some kind of difference.

Re: Changes to Bishops Handbook
It is less costly litigation wise to discriminate children in religion, than it is to discriminate their gay parents.
Children are a powerless group in the eyes of the law. Many of the same laws governing EEO that applies to the rest of us who are over 18, do not apply to minors.
It will also serve as a deterrent for households run by gay parents to even try to send their children to Mormon religious services. That kills two birds with one stone. LDS is hoping it will keep gay families from pushing their agenda in LDS meeting houses.
It has nothing to do with the gospel of Jesus Christ, however, other than being anti-biblical and anti-Christian in its premise. Christ would condemn the Mormon church if he were here today. He would overthrow its 'money changers,' and rebuke this change in procedures as ungodly.
It's a poor excuse for a church. If I were still in the church, this singular event would be the shelf breaker for me. Many Millenials and those who are progressive in their outlook will be leaving over this because of its exclusionary and downright punitive 'reform' at the expense of little children. Jesus sought out the little children, and to him they were cherished and precious and worthy of every protection in the eyes of God.
Not to the Mormons. Can you imagine if all Christian churches turned away little children from baptism because their parents are gay? Neither can I. It's anti-Christian at its core.
From the comments section of the Saint George news, on the LGBT issue: "Suffer the Little Children to Come unto me; and forbid them not. For such is the Kingdom of Heaven. What Mormons reject; Jesus accepts."
Amen.

If you have to get permission from your parent. You are in no position to give consent.

Re: Changes to Bishops Handbook
So should the baptisms of non member minors then totally cease ccc?

Re: Changes to Bishops Handbook
Being baptized is a rite of passage for children in the LDS faith. Not when they grow up. That is just ridiculous to suggest that only children from heterosexual parents can "give consent" for their child to be baptized at the "age of accountability." But for minors of gay parents, they cannot before their 18th birthday.
It's too much lunacy and outright HYPOCRISY. It's so discriminatory that those guys sitting in their ivory tower at Temple Square have totally lost touch with reality.
The next "epiphany" the church will have is how they totally screwed up their latest "revelation."
After Monday morning and the flood of resignations hits the fan, they'll need more than a wing and a prayer to survive the tsunami.
On that you can rely! Now that's PROPHETIC.

Re: Changes to Bishops Handbook
The handbook said people living in a homosexual relationship were subject to church discipline before. Now it calls them apostates.
I don't see a lot of difference since the language is vague in both cases and up to the interpretation of the bishop, stake president etc. I would think most of the LDS hierarchy believe now as before that people who are sexually active in a same sex relationship should be excommunicated.
