Re: Why humans are born handicapped and minorities
That is a non sequitur.
You can only live in one room at a time so give up the place that you live to a homeless person. No one needs a computer. Think of all the time and money you waste on it. So give up yours. An empty soul soon leads to an empty stomach. by the way You can't get someone out of the pit poverty by getting in the pit with them.
Most LDS Temples are small, and simple affairs. A bit of concrete, some glass, some fabric, and paint.
Temples are places for ordinances by the living on behalf of themselves and deceased family members.
Again I can walk and chew gum at the same time. Sorry that you can't.
What a lovely bigoted statement of it being a sop. Hopefully when a loved one of yours dies you won't give into the sop of still loving them.
Here is just some of what that pittance does free of charge.

You just being stupid now and missing the point. No one suggested you cannot do both and yes people do many different things with their time. But we do have limited time so making a choice to spend time on one thing will have an impact for time on others things. You can chew gum and walk at the same time, but you cannot ride your bike.

Re: Why humans are born handicapped and minorities
What is the price of a new temple these days? 30-40 million?
Small thing. The church spends 2-3 orders of magnitude more each year on real estate than non member charity. About 48 million a year over the last 20 some odd years towards charity according to the welfare fact sheets the church used to publish. Most of which value is by calculated member volunteer time translated into $$$s, and generally about 13 million a year in actual cash contributions. Which is $2 + change in cash per active member per year.
How Christ like.
The members placate their consciences by doing works for the dead, instead of works for the poor living. Yes a sop. A sop designed to centralize and bind them tighter to the church, ensuring the revenue stream of tithing. Rather than serving the community in shelters and soup kitchens they go to the temple. Let the dead take care of the dead. Temple work can never catch up with the birth rate. It can wait till the milenium. There is real suffering that could be alleviated now, except the focus is not there, and the resources elsewhere allocated, to dead works for dead folks.

It is better to be a warrior in a garden, than a gardener at war.
Some of us, on the other hand, actually prefer a religion that includes some type of correlation with reality.

By definition. However if one were to spend all of their time feeding someone else. They can't be fed themselves.

Christ and the Apostles spent considerable time in the Temples and Synagogues.
When you sell ALL YOU have and give the money to the poor then we'll talk.

So? That is not the issue here. The issue is whether the time we spend is spent on making a real difference or not. If the church is not true, then yes, temple work will only make people feel they are doing good, but doing good for no one. Many LDS seniors spend much of their free time doing just that, Because we don't have unlimited time then time used to help others has to suffer.
I can ride a bike and chew gum at the same time. Sorry that you can't.
Now be honest. You know full well I was talking about walking and riding your bike at the same time.

I wouldn't put much into a text that is largely fiction as to real events.

Now stop being an arrogant jerk. I doubt you have given all you have to the poor.

If it is largely fiction. what do you care?
Now stop being obtuse. I never claimed everyone should. by the way Neither did Jesus, Real or Fictional.
We are a long ways off of this thread as to why humans are born handicapped and minorities.
Personally I don't know why. I just accept that we all have our problems and are part of some minority. My job is to help alleviate human suffering as much as possible.

Because you tried to use it as an example. People can acre about fictional tales being believed as real because of the influence it may have on society. I suspect you think Mohammad's divine claims are largely fiction yet it is is easy to see how much influence it has had on the world.

You tried to suggest you wouldn't listen to SH unless he had. That's very hypocritical. Jesus was very critical of people like you.

Frodo Lives. ;)
I don't have a problem with Muslims believing Mohammad was God's last prophet. I've actually read the Koran. It does have some good idea's. I just don't accept its Truth Claims. As long as they treat me decently, I really don't care what they believe. The vast majority of Muslims are peaceful decent people just trying to make a life for themselves their families in this world. There are always jerks in every religion and no religion at all.
Show me what you do and I'll know what you believe.
