I can not resign, as I didn't join.
And I don't regret to not join!

The only reason I didn't resign is because I plan to become a mole. I'm just waiting for the time I make enough money to drive a nicer looking car so I don't look suspicious.

Well, I suppose you could always join just so you could have the opportunity to resign.

But it confused the Hell out of me, because I thought you thought for a very long time that the LDS church was flat-out untrue from the very beginning. Therefore, the revelation that you think the LDS church started out as true and that you continued believing it to be true up until this policy was issued threw me for a huge loop.
It sort of contradicted everything I had read from you until now.
You know, Shades, you're a great guy and all. And, I'm grateful for all you do around here. But, sometimes you can be the biggest knucklehead of them all.
Why on earth does it matter what I personally believe? If a strong case can be made for the LDS Church having violated its most fundamental Christian doctrines, then anyone would be justified in jumping ship on that account. Despite the obvious inanities of Tobin, I should think you would be smart enough to figure that out.
Or do you seriously believe God has to manifest himself to a person in order to legitimize their leave-taking?

I'll let Shades speak for himself, but I'm not asking people to see God to leave the LDS Church. My question is why was the LDS Church's claims true before this policy was announced and suddenly false afterwards? You seem to be drawing that line in the sand and I can't fathom why or how it can even make the least bit of sense.Kishkumen wrote:You know, Shades, you're a great guy and all. Are you familiar with the LDS belief in the Great Apostasy?

For me, it was the icing on the crap cake. Up until that point I had been telling myself that, irrespective of the truth claims, the church was a good place to bring up children and experience the benefits of community.
I live in a European country where gay marriage is legal. My parents are very active in the church (my dad has been a Bishop and SP) and they have, in the past, attended the gay wedding ceremonies of non-member friends. I know they are unhappy with the new policy. It doesn't sit well socially or politically in a European context. But they believe in the church, so they will suck it up.
I don't regret resigning - the introduction of the new policy makes me thoroughly glad that I did it 6 years ago.
I keep wondering if maybe the leaders really wanted to see a bunch of people resign. Maybe they were getting concerned it wasn't conservative enough. With most of their high stakes tithe payers being ultra conservative, they were probably worried about a fallout in a church going more liberal. They are probably relieved to see these resignations.
