Ezekiel 31:1-18
In the 11th year, on the 1st of the 3rd month, the Lord’s word came to me:
"Human, tell Egypt’s Pharaoh, and his troops:
With whom do you compare in your greatness?
Consider Assyria, a cedar of Lebanon: beautiful branches, dense shade, towering height; indeed, its top went up between the clouds.
Waters nourished it; the deep raised it up, because its streams flowed around the place where it was planted. From there, water trickled down to other trees of the field.
And so it became the tallest of all the trees of the field. Its branches became abundant; its boughs grew long. Because of the plentiful water, it grew wildly.
All the birds in the sky made nests among its branches; all the beasts of the field gave birth under its boughs, and in its shade, every great nation lived.
It became beautiful in its height and in its lush foliage, because it was rooted in plentiful water.
No cedar was its equal in God’s garden. The fir trees didn’t have anything comparing with its branches, and the trees of the plane had nothing like its boughs.
None of the trees in God’s garden could compare to it in its beauty.
As for its beauty—I made it so, with its abundant foliage. All the trees of Eden envied it, all that were in God’s garden.
So now the Lord God proclaims: Consider the fate of those who tower high! When allowed its branches to reach up among the clouds, arrogance set in.
So I handed it over to the most powerful nation, who continually acted treacherously against it. I banished it!
Foreigners, the worst of the nations, cut it down and left it to lie among the hills. All its branches fell among the valleys, and its boughs were broken off in the earth’s deep ravines. All the earth’s peoples lost its shade and abandoned it.
On its trunk roost all the birds in the sky, and on its boughs lie all the beasts of the field.
All this occurred so that no other well-watered tree would tower high or have its branches to reach among the clouds. Nor would their leaders achieve the towering stature of such well-watered trees. Certainly, all of them are consigned to death, to the region below, among human beings who go down to the pit.
The Lord God proclaims: On the day that it went down to the underworld, I caused mourning. I blocked off the deep sea against it. I dried up its rivers and restrained the mighty waters. I made Lebanon go into mourning for it, and all the trees of the field languished on its account.
When it was felled, the nations quaked at the sound. When I cast it down into the underworld, with those who go down to the pit, all the trees of Eden were comforted in the world below, the choicest and the best of Lebanon, all the trees that depended on water.
His allies, those among the nations who lived under his shade, these also went down with him to the underworld, to those who are slain by the sword.
Are you like any of these in glory or greatness among Eden’s trees? Then you too will end up with Eden’s trees to the realm below. You will lie among the uncircumcised, with those who are slain by the sword. This is Pharaoh and his entire horde. This is what the Lord God reveals."

8 Cedars have not hid him in the garden of God, Firs have not been like unto his boughs, And chesnut-trees have not been as his branches, No tree in the garden of God hath been like unto him in his beauty,
9 Fair I have made him in the multitude of his thin shoots, And envy him do all trees of Eden that [are] in the garden of God.
10 Therefore, thus said the Lord Jehovah: Because that thou hast been high in stature, And he yieldeth his foliage between thickets, And high is his heart in his haughtiness,
11 I give him into the hand of a god of nations, He dealeth sorely with him, In his wickedness I have cast him out.
12 And cut him off do strangers, The terrible of nations, and they leave him, On the mountains and in all valleys have his thin shoots fallen, And broken are his boughs at all streams of the land, And go down from his shade do all peoples of the land, and they leave him.
13 On his ruin dwell do all fowls of the heavens, And on his boughs have been all the beasts of the field,
14 In order that none of the trees of the waters May become haughty because of their stature, Nor give their foliage between thickets, Nor any drinking waters stand up unto them in their haughtiness, For all of them are given up to death, Unto the earth -- the lower part, In the midst of the sons of men, Unto those going down to the pit.
15 Thus said the Lord Jehovah: In the day of his going down to sheol I have caused mourning, I have covered for him the deep, and diminish its flowings, And restrained are many waters, And I make Lebanon black for him, And all trees of the field have been covered for him.
16 From the sound of his fall I have caused nations to shake, In My causing him to go down to sheol, With those going down to the pit, And comforted in the earth -- the lower part, are all trees of Eden, The choice and the good of Lebanon, All drinking waters.
17 Also they with him have gone down to sheol, Unto the pierced of the sword, And -- his arm -- they dwelt in his shade in the midst of nations.
18 Unto whom hast thou been thus like, In honour and in greatness among the trees of Eden, And thou hast been brought down with the trees of Eden, Unto the earth -- the lower part, In the midst of the uncircumcised thou liest, With the pierced of the sword? It [is] Pharaoh, and all his multitude, An affirmation of the Lord Jehovah!'

On the 1st of the 12th month (mid-February) of the 12th year of King Jehoiachin’s captivity, this message came to Ezekiel from the Lord:
“Human, be sorrowful for Pharaoh, of Egypt and say to him: So, You think yourself as a strong young lion among the nations, and as a monster of the seas: and go out among your rivers, making bubbles and stirring up mud.
The Lord God says: I will send a great army to catch you with my net and haul you out -- leaving you stranded on the land to die. And all the birds of the heavens will light upon you, and the wild animals of the whole earth will devour you until they are full.
And I will cover the hills with your flesh and fill trenches with your bones.
And I will drench the earth with your flowing blood, filling the ravines to the mountains.
I will blot you out, and I will cover the heavens and darken the stars. I will cover the sun with a cloud, and the moon shall not provide light.
Yes, darkness will be everywhere across your land—even the bright stars will be dark above you.
And when I destroy you, grief will be in many hearts among the distant nations you never visited.
Yes, terror shall strike in many lands, and their kings shall be terribly unnerved because of all I do to you. They shall shudder with terror when I swing my sword before them. They shall greatly tremble for their lives on the day of your collapse.
The Lord God says: The sword of the king of Babylon shall attack you.
I will destroy you with Babylon’s mighty army—the terror of the nations. It will smash the pride of Egypt and all her people; all will die.
I will destroy all your flocks and herds that graze beside the streams, and neither man nor animal will trouble those waters anymore.
This will result in Egypt's water being clear and flowing as smoothly as olive oil, the Lord God says.
And when I destroy Egypt and wipe out her possessions, then she shall know that I, the Lord, accomplished this.
Yes, cry for the sorrows of Egypt. Let all the nations weep for her and for her people, says the Lord."
Two weeks later, came another message to Ezekiel from the Lord. He said:
"Human, weep for the people of Egypt and for the other mighty nations. Send them down to the afterlife among the citizens of death.
What nation is as beautiful as you, O Egypt? Yet your doom is hell; you will be buried beside the people you despise.
The Egyptians will die with the multitudes slain by the sword, for the sword is drawn against the land of Egypt. She will be drawn down to judgment.
The mighty warriors in the afterlife will welcome her as she arrives with all her friends, to lie there beside the nations she despised, all victims of the sword.
The rulers of Assyria lie there surrounded by the graves of all her people, those the sword has slain.
Their graves reside in the depths of hell, surrounded by allies. All these mighty men who once struck terror into the hearts of everyone are now dead at the hands of their foes.
Great kings of Elam lie there with their people. They whipped the nations while they lived, and now they lie undone in hell; their fate is the same as that of unredeemed men.
They have a resting place among the slain, surrounded by the graves of all their people. Yes, they terrorized the nations while they lived, but now they lie in shame in hell, slain by the sword.
The princes of Meshech and Tubal are there, surrounded by the graves of all their armies—all of them idolaters—who once struck terror to the hearts of all; now they are dead.
They are dumped in a common grave pit and not as fallen lords who are buried in great honor with their weapons beside them, their shields covering them and their swords beneath their heads. They were a terror to all while they lived.
Now will they lie crushed and broken among idolaters --- slain by the sword.
Edom is there with her kings and her princes; powerful as they were, they too lie among others whom the sword has slain, with idolaters who have gone to hell.
All the princes of the north are there and the Sidonians, all slain. Once a terror, now they lie in shame; they lie in stupidity with all the other slain who go to hell.
When Pharaoh arrives, he will be comforted to find that he is not alone in having his army destroyed, says the Lord God.
For I have ended my terror upon all the living. And Pharaoh and his army shall lie among idolaters who are slain by the sword.”

19 Than whom hast thou been more pleasant? Go down, and be laid with the uncircumcised.
20 In the midst of the pierced of the sword they fall, [To] the sword she hath been given, They drew her out, and all her multitude.
21 Speak to him do the gods of the mighty out of the midst of sheol, With his helpers -- they have gone down, They have lain with the uncircumcised, The pierced of the sword.
22 There [is] Asshur, and all her assembly, Round about him [are] his graves, All of them [are] wounded, who are falling by sword,

Ezekiel 33:1-33
The Lord’s word came to Ezekiel:
Human, speak to Israel and say to them: Suppose I bring a sword against a country, and the people of the land select an individual from their assembly and make him their lookout.
When he sees the sword approaching the land, he blows the trumpet and warns the people.
If they hear the sound of the trumpet yet don’t heed the warning, when the sword comes and they are taken away, they are responsible for their demise.
They heard the sound of the trumpet but ignored the warning. They are at fault for their demise. If they had paid attention, they would have saved their lives.
If the lookout sees the sword approaching but doesn’t blow the trumpet warning the people, when the sword comes and kills them, their sins are theirs, but I’ll hold the lookout responsible for their demise.
Human, I’ve made you a lookout for Israel. Whenever you hear me speaking, you must give them My warning.
If I pronounce a death sentence on wicked people, and you don’t warn them to Change their ways, they will die in their guilt, but I will hold you responsible for their demise.
But suppose you do warn the wicked of their ways and they repent. If they do not repent, they will die guilty, but you will save your life.
Human, say to Israel: This is what all of you reply: How our transgressions and our sins overwhelm us! We waste away because of them. How can we survive?”
Say to them, the Lord God says: As surely as I exist, do I take pleasure in the death of the wicked? If the wicked repent, they will live. Turn, completely turn from your wicked ways! Why should you die, Israel?
Human, say to Israel: The righteousness of the righteous doesn’t rescue them when they start sinning. Nor does the wickedness of the wicked trip them up if they turn from their wickedness. If the righteous sin, their righteousness will not protect them.
Even if I’ve told the righteous they will survive, none of their righteous deeds will be remembered if they trust in their righteousness and do wrong. They will die because of their evil deeds.
And even if I have pronounced a death sentence on the wicked, if they turn from sin and do what is just and right—
if they make good on promises, make restitution for robbery, and walk in life-giving regulations in order not to sin—they will live and not die.
None of the sins they’ve committed will be remembered. They’ve done what is just and right, and they will live.
Yet your people say, “My Lord’s way doesn’t add up.” Isn’t it their ways that don’t add up?
When the righteous turn from their righteousness to do wrong, they will die as a result.
And when the wicked turn from their wickedness to do what is just and right, it is for that reason they will live.
Yet you say, “My Lord’s way doesn’t add up.” I judge each one of you according to your ways, Israel!
In the 12th year, on the 5th day of the 10th month of our exile, a survivor from Jerusalem came to me and reported, that the city has fallen!
The Lord’s power was with me the evening before the survivor arrived, and just before he arrived that morning, God opened my mouth. So my mouth was opened, and I was no longer speechless.
The Lord’s word came to me:
Human, those who live among those ruins in Israel’s fertile land are saying, that Abraham was just one individual, and he inherited the land. They are many, so certainly the land has been given to them as an inheritance.
Say to them, The Lord God proclaims: You eat with the blood, you lift your eyes to the idols, and you murder. Should you inherit the land?
You live by the sword, you watch detestable practices, and every one of you commits adultery. Should you inherit the land?
Say to them, The Lord God proclaims: As surely as I exist, those among the ruins will die by the sword, those in the countryside I will allow wild beasts to consume, and those in the strongholds and caves will die of disease.
I will make the land an uninhabitable waste. Its proud strength will come to an end, and Israel’s highlands will become so empty that no one will venture through them.
They will realize that I Am the Lord when I make the land an uninhabitable waste because of all their disgusting behavior.
You realize, human, your fellow citizens speak alongside the walls and in their doorways. One after another, they will want hear what kind of message has come from the Lord.”
So they come to you as people do, and they'll sit before you as my people. They listen to your words, but refuse to follow them. Though they speak of their longing for me, they act on their own interests and opinions.
To them you are like a singer of love songs with a great voice and skilled technique. They listen to your words, but no one obeys.
When it happens—and it is —they will know that a prophet has been among them."

The Lord’s word came to Ezekiel:
Human, speak to Israel and say to them: Suppose I bring a sword against a country, and the people of the land select an individual from their assembly and make him their lookout.
When he sees the sword approaching the land, he blows the trumpet and warns the people.
If they hear the sound of the trumpet yet don’t heed the warning, when the sword comes and they are taken away, they are responsible for their demise.
They heard the sound of the trumpet but ignored the warning. They are at fault for their demise. If they had paid attention, they would have saved their lives.
If the lookout sees the sword approaching but doesn’t blow the trumpet warning the people, when the sword comes and kills them, their sins are theirs, but I’ll hold the lookout responsible for their demise.
Human, I’ve made you a lookout for Israel. Whenever you hear me speaking, you must give them My warning.
If I pronounce a death sentence on wicked people, and you don’t warn them to Change their ways, they will die in their guilt, but I will hold you responsible for their demise.
But suppose you do warn the wicked of their ways and they repent. If they do not repent, they will die guilty, but you will save your life.
Human, say to Israel: This is what all of you reply: How our transgressions and our sins overwhelm us! We waste away because of them. How can we survive?”
Say to them, the Lord God says: As surely as I exist, do I take pleasure in the death of the wicked? If the wicked repent, they will live. Turn, completely turn from your wicked ways! Why should you die, Israel?
Human, say to Israel: The righteousness of the righteous doesn’t rescue them when they start sinning. Nor does the wickedness of the wicked trip them up if they turn from their wickedness. If the righteous sin, their righteousness will not protect them.
Even if I’ve told the righteous they will survive, none of their righteous deeds will be remembered if they trust in their righteousness and do wrong. They will die because of their evil deeds.
And even if I have pronounced a death sentence on the wicked, if they turn from sin and do what is just and right—
if they make good on promises, make restitution for robbery, and walk in life-giving regulations in order not to sin—they will live and not die.
None of the sins they’ve committed will be remembered. They’ve done what is just and right, and they will live.
Yet your people say, “My Lord’s way doesn’t add up.” Isn’t it their ways that don’t add up?
When the righteous turn from their righteousness to do wrong, they will die as a result.
And when the wicked turn from their wickedness to do what is just and right, it is for that reason they will live.
Yet you say, “My Lord’s way doesn’t add up.” I judge each one of you according to your ways, Israel!

“Human, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel and say to them: The Sovereign Lord says: Misery to you shepherds of Israel who only consider yourselves! Should not shepherds take care of the flock?
You eat the fat, clothe yourselves with the wool and slaughter the choice animals, but you ignore the flock.
You have not strengthened the weak or healed the sick or bound up the injured. You have not collected strays or searched for the missing. You have ruled them harshly and brutally.
So they were scattered because there was no shepherd, and as such they became food for all the wild animals.
My sheep wandered over all the mountains and on every high hill. They were scattered over the earth, and no one searched or looked for them.
Therefore, you shepherds, hear the word of the Lord:
As surely as I exist, declares the Sovereign Lord, because my flock lacks a shepherd and so has been plundered and become food for all the wild animals, and because My shepherds did not search for My flock but considered themselves rather than My flock,
therefore, shepherds, now here this:
The Sovereign Lord says: I am against the shepherds and will hold them accountable for my flock. I will remove them from tending the flock so that the shepherds can no longer feed themselves. I will rescue my flock from their mouths, and it will no longer be food for them.
For this is what the Sovereign Lord says: I will search for My sheep and look after them.
As a shepherd looks after his scattered flock when he is with them, so will I look after my sheep. I will rescue them from all the places where they ran on a day of clouds and darkness.
I will gather them out from nations and countries, and I will bring them back to their own land. I will pasture them on the mountains of Israel, in the ravines and in all the settlements in the land.
I will tend them in a good pasture, and the mountain heights of Israel will be their grazing land. There they will rest in good grazing land, and will feed in a rich pasture on the mountains of Israel.
I Myself will tend My sheep and have them lie down, declares the Sovereign Lord.
I will search for the lost and bring back the strays. I will bind up the injured and strengthen the weak, but the slick and the powerful I will destroy. I will shepherd the flock with justice.
As for you, My flock, this the Sovereign Lord says: I will judge between one sheep and another, and between rams and goats.
Is it not enough for you to feed on the good pasture? Must you also spoil the rest of your pasture with your tracks? Is it not enough for you to drink clear water? Must you also pollute the rest with your feet?
Must my flock feed on what you have trampled and drink what you have polluted?
Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says to them: See, I myself will judge between the fat sheep and the lean sheep.
Because you shove with flank and shoulder, butting all the weak sheep with your horns until you have driven them away,
I will save my flock, and they will no longer be plundered. I will judge between one sheep and another.
I will place over them one shepherd, My servant David, and He will tend them; he will tend them and be their shepherd.
I the Lord will be their God, and my servant David will be prince among them. I the Lord have spoken.
I will make a covenant of peace with them and rid the land of savage beasts so that they may live in the wilderness and sleep in the forests safely.
I will make them and the places surrounding My hill a blessing. I will send down showers seasonally; there will be showers of blessing.
The trees will yield their fruit and the ground its crops; the people will be comfortable in their land. They will know that I am the Lord, when I break the bars of their yoke and rescue them from the hands of those who captured them.
They will no longer be plundered by the nations, nor will wild animals devour them. They will live safely, and no one will frighten them.
I will provide for them a land renowned for its crops, and they will no longer be victims of famine in the land or bear the scorn of the nations.
Then they will know that I, the Lord their God, Am with them and that they, the Israelites, are My people, pronounces the Sovereign Lord.
You are my sheep, the sheep of my pasture, and I am Your God, declares the Sovereign Lord.”

As for you, My flock, this the Sovereign Lord says: I will judge between one sheep and another, and between rams and goats.
Is it not enough for you to feed on the good pasture? Must you also spoil the rest of your pasture with your tracks? Is it not enough for you to drink clear water? Must you also pollute the rest with your feet?
Must my flock feed on what you have trampled and drink what you have polluted?
Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says to them: See, I myself will judge between the fat sheep and the lean sheep.
Because you shove with flank and shoulder, butting all the weak sheep with your horns until you have driven them away,
I will save my flock, and they will no longer be plundered. I will judge between one sheep and another.
I will place over them one shepherd, My servant David, and He will tend them; he will tend them and be their shepherd.
I the Lord will be their God, and my servant David will be prince among them. I the Lord have spoken.
I will make a covenant of peace with them and rid the land of savage beasts so that they may live in the wilderness and sleep in the forests safely.
I will make them and the places surrounding My hill a blessing. I will send down showers seasonally; there will be showers of blessing.
The trees will yield their fruit and the ground its crops; the people will be comfortable in their land. They will know that I am the Lord, when I break the bars of their yoke and rescue them from the hands of those who captured them.
They will no longer be plundered by the nations, nor will wild animals devour them. They will live safely, and no one will frighten them.
I will provide for them a land renowned for its crops, and they will no longer be victims of famine in the land or bear the scorn of the nations.
Then they will know that I, the Lord their God, Am with them and that they, the Israelites, are My people, pronounces the Sovereign Lord.
You are my sheep, the sheep of my pasture, and I am Your God, declares the Sovereign Lord.”

"Human, face Mount Seir, and prophesy against it.
Say, The Lord God proclaims:
I’m against you, Mount Seir! I will use My might against you. I will make you into a empty wasteland,
I will make your cities ruins. You will become a desolation. Then you will realize that I am the Lord.
Because you harbored an ancient grudge, you handed the Israelites over to the sword in the time of their need, during their final punishment.
Now the Lord God proclaims: As surely as I exist, I will prepare you for blood, and blood will pursue you. Because you don’t hate bloodshed, bloodshed will pursue you.
I will turn Mount Seir into a desolate wasteland, when I cut off from it both passerby and home-comer.
I will fill its highlands, hills, valleys, and all your ravines with your killed citizens. Those who are slain by the sword will die there.
I will turn you into an eternal desolation. Your cities won’t be inhabited, and you will realize that I am the Lord.
You said, “These two nations and two territories are mine. We will take possession of them even if the Lord is there.”
Therefore, the Lord God proclaims: As surely as I exist, I will act according to the anger and zeal you exhibited when you dealt with them so hatefully. When I judge you, I will make Myself known to them.
You will realize that I am the Lord. I’ve heard the lies and libels that you uttered against Israel’s highlands when you said, “They are laid waste. They’ve been given to us to claim.”
With your mouths you exalted yourselves against Me and spoke your against Me. I heard it!
The Lord God proclaims: As the whole world rejoices, I will turn you into a desolation.
Just as you rejoiced over Israel’s inheritance because it became desolate, so I will deal with you. Mount Seir, you will become a desolation, with all of Edom, all of it. Then they will realize that I am the Lord.

‘I speak in jealousy and fury, because you have endured being insulted by the nations.

I will multiply both the human and animal populations, they will increase and flourish; and I will cause you to be inhabited as you were before — indeed, I will improve you better than before; and you will accept that I Am God.
I will cause people to walk on you, my people Israel; they will possess you, and you will be their inheritance; never again will you make them to mourn.
The Godhead says, Because they say to you, Land, you devour people and make your nations mourn --- therefore you will no longer devour people, and you will not make your nations mourn ever again.
I will not permit the nations to embarrass you, or the peoples to assult you any longer; and you will no more cause your nations to stumble, declares the Godhead."
The word of God came to Ezekiel:
“Human, when the house of Israel resided in their own land, they polluted it by their manner of lifestyle and their behavior; their way before me was like the uncleanness of the shunned.
Therefore I poured out my fury on them, because of the blood they had shed in the land and because they defiled it with their idols.
I scattered them among the nations and dispersed them throughout the countries; I judged them in accordance with their lifestyle and behavior.
When they came to the nations they were going to, they profaned my holy name; so that people said of them, ‘These are God's people, who have been exiled from His land.’
But I am concerned about My holy name, which the house of Isra’el is profaning among the nations where they have gone.
Therefore tell Israel that Godhead says: I am not going to do this for your sake, Israel, but for the sake of My holy name, which you have been profaning among the nations where you sojourn.
I will set apart My great name to be regarded as holy, since it has been profaned in the nations — you soil it among them. The nations will know that I Am God. Before My eyes, I Am set apart through you to be regarded as holy.
For I will take you from among the nations, gather you from all the countries, and return you to your own place.
Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your uncleanness and from all idols.
I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit inside you; I will remove the stony heart out of your flesh and give you a heart of tenderness.
I will put My Spirit inside you causing you to live by My laws, respect my rulings and fulfill them.
You will live in the land I gave to your ancestors. You will be My people, and I will be Your God.
I will recue you from all your uncleanliness. I will summon the grain and increase it, and not send famine against you.
I will multiply the yield of fruit from the trees and increase production in the fields, so that you never again suffer the reproach of famine among the nations.
Then you will remember your evil way and actions that were not good; as you consider yourselves, you will loathe yourselves for your guilt and disgusting behavior.
Understand, that I am not doing this for your sake. Instead, be ashamed and appalled by your ways, house of Israel.
The Godhead says, When the day comes for Me to cleanse you from all your guilt, I will cause the cities to be inhabited and the ruins to be rebuilt.
The land that was desolate will be farmed, whereas formerly it lay empty for all passing by to see.
Then they will say that the land that used to be desolate has become like Eden, and the cities formerly ruined, abandoned and wasted have been fortified and are reinhabited!
Then the nations around you that remain will know that I, Adonai, have rebuilt the ruins and replanted what was abandoned. I, Adonai, have spoken; and I will do it.’
The Godhead says, additionally, I will let the house of Israel pray to me to do this for them: to increase their numbers like sheep —
like sacrificial flocks of sheep in Jerusalem at appointed times, in this degree will the ruined cities be filled with flocks of people. Then they will know that I am God.”

“Human, when the house of Israel resided in their own land, they polluted it by their manner of lifestyle and their behavior; their way before me was like the uncleanness of the shunned.
Therefore I poured out my fury on them, because of the blood they had shed in the land and because they defiled it with their idols.
I scattered them among the nations and dispersed them throughout the countries; I judged them in accordance with their lifestyle and behavior.
When they came to the nations they were going to, they profaned my holy name; so that people said of them, ‘These are God's people, who have been exiled from His land.’
But I am concerned about My holy name, which the house of Isra’el is profaning among the nations where they have gone.
Therefore tell Israel that Godhead says: I am not going to do this for your sake, Israel, but for the sake of My holy name, which you have been profaning among the nations where you sojourn.
I will set apart My great name to be regarded as holy, since it has been profaned in the nations — you soil it among them. The nations will know that I Am God. Before My eyes, I Am set apart through you to be regarded as holy.
For I will take you from among the nations, gather you from all the countries, and return you to your own place.
Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your uncleanness and from all idols.
I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit inside you; I will remove the stony heart out of your flesh and give you a heart of tenderness.
I will put My Spirit inside you causing you to live by My laws, respect my rulings and fulfill them.
You will live in the land I gave to your ancestors. You will be My people, and I will be Your God.
I will recue you from all your uncleanliness. I will summon the grain and increase it, and not send famine against you.
I will multiply the yield of fruit from the trees and increase production in the fields, so that you never again suffer the reproach of famine among the nations.
Then you will remember your evil way and actions that were not good; as you consider yourselves, you will loathe yourselves for your guilt and disgusting behavior.
Understand, that I am not doing this for your sake. Instead, be ashamed and appalled by your ways, house of Israel.
The Godhead says, When the day comes for Me to cleanse you from all your guilt, I will cause the cities to be inhabited and the ruins to be rebuilt.
The land that was desolate will be farmed, whereas formerly it lay empty for all passing by to see.
Then they will say that the land that used to be desolate has become like Eden, and the cities formerly ruined, abandoned and wasted have been fortified and are reinhabited!
Then the nations around you that remain will know that I, Adonai, have rebuilt the ruins and replanted what was abandoned. I, Adonai, have spoken; and I will do it.’
The Godhead says, additionally, I will let the house of Israel pray to me to do this for them: to increase their numbers like sheep —
like sacrificial flocks of sheep in Jerusalem at appointed times, in this degree will the ruined cities be filled with flocks of people. Then they will know that I am God.”

The moving of the Lord was on Ezekiel, and he took him by the Spirit of the Lord and set him in the middle of a valley full of bones.
He led Ezekiel all around among them, and he observed a great many bones on the floor of the valley that were very brittle.
He asked Ezekiel, “Human, can these bones live?”
Ezekiel responded, "The Godhead, alone knows.”
Then He said to Ezekiel, “Prophesy to these bones and say to them, ‘Dry bones, now hear the word of the Lord!
This is what the Godhead says to these bones: I will breath upon you, and you will reanimate.
I will attach tendons to you and make flesh form upon you and cover you with skin; I will put breath in you, and you will live. Then you will know that I am the Lord.”
So Ezekiel prophesied as commanded. And as Ezekiel was prophesying, there was a clattering noise, and the bones pulled together in proper assembly.
Ezekiel looked, and tendons and flesh appeared on them and skin covered them, but there was no breath in them.
Then the Lord said, “Prophesy to the breath; prophesy, human, and say to it, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Come, breath, from the four winds and breathe into these slain, that they may live.”
So Ezekiel prophesied as commanded, and breath entered them; they came to life and stood up on their feet—a vast army.
Then God said to Ezekiel: “Human, these bones are the people of Israel. They say that their bones are brittle and their hope is gone; they're banished.
Therefore prophesy and say to them: ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: My people, I am going to open your graves and bring you up from them; I will bring you back to the land of Israel.
Then you, my people, will realize that I am the Lord, when I open your graves and bring you up from them.
I will place My Spirit in you and you will live, and I will settle you in your own land. Then you will know that I the Lord have spoken, and I accomplished this, declares the Lord.”

“Human, take a stick of wood and whittle on it, ‘Belonging to Judah and the Israelites associated with him.’ Then take another stick of wood, and whittle on it, ‘Belonging to Joseph (that is, to Ephraim) and all the Israelites associated with him.’
Bind them together into one stick so that they will become one when you hold them.
When your people ask you, to explain the meaning,
say to them, ‘This is what the Godhead says: I am going to take the stick of Joseph—which is in Ephraim’s hand—and of the Israelite tribes associated with him, and join it to Judah’s stick. I will make them into a single stick of wood, and they will become one when held.’
Hold before their eyes the sticks you have whittled on and say to them, ‘This is what the Godhead says: I will take the Israelites out of the nations where they have migrated. I will gather them from all around and bring them back into their own land.
I will make them one nation in the land, on the mountains of Israel. There will be one king over all of them and they will never again be two nations or be divided into two kingdoms.
They will no longer defile themselves with their idols and vile images or with any of their offenses, for I will save them from all their sinful backsliding, and cleanse them. They will be my people, and I will be their God.
My servant David will be king over them, and they will all have one shepherd. They will follow My laws and carefully to keep My decrees.
They will live in the land I gave to my servant Jacob, the land where your ancestors resided. They and their children and their children’s children will remain there forever, and David my servant will be their prince forever.
I will make a covenant of peace with them; it will be an everlasting covenant. I will establish them and increase their numbers, and I will put My sanctuary among them forever.
My dwelling place will be with them; I will be their God, and they will be my people.
Then the nations will understand that I the Lord make Israel holy, when My sanctuary is among them to the end of the age.”

The LDS Church has used Ezekiel 37:15-20 to state that this Passage refers to the Book of Mormon.

The Bible testifies of the Book of Mormon (in my opinion). For example, in Ezekiel 37:15-17, Ezekiel prophesied about the joining of two "sticks" (using the term from the King James Version) from different parts of the House Israel, one from the tribe of Judah and one from the tribe of Ephraim (from Joseph). These "sticks" refer (in our opinion) to two volumes of scripture. The Hebrew word used in Ezekiel 37 is not the usual word for stick, but is "etz", which means a wooden tablet. The wooden tablet, based on modern archaeological data, may refer to a writing tablet on which a layer of wax was coated for writing with a stylus. These tablets appear to have been a major medium of writing in the ancient world, though few survived because wood rots (interestingly, Agatha Christie's husband found one such tablet, with wax still intact, preserved in the bottom of an ancient well, as I recall). The tablets were like individual leaves of a book that could be bound together to make a book (or smaller books could be joined to make larger ones). Based on the Hebrew and based on what we now know about the use of "etz" as a writing medium, Ezek. 37:15-17 makes sense as a prophecy of two volumes of scripture that would be united in the last days. These volumes are the Bible (from the tribe of Judah) and the Book of Mormon (from the tribe of Joseph, for the founders of the Nephite people who came out of Jerusalem were descendants of Joseph).

An important point to realize here is that since that return, the religious practices of the Jewish people have evolved into something somewhat different than their ancestors practiced in earlier times. By the time of Jesus Christ, when the Jewish authorities accused The Lord of breaking the law, much of which was merely their law, not God's, He rebuked His own people for worshiping God according to their own traditions:
"And He said to them, "Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written, 'This people honors Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me; in vain do they worship Me, teaching as doctrines the precepts of men.' You leave the commandment of God, and hold fast the tradition of men." And He said to them, "You have a fine way of rejecting the commandment of God, in order to keep your tradition!" The Lord's condemnation was aimed at their religious leadership of that time, not at the people themselves, since most of the first Christians, including Jesus Himself, were Jews.
What Is Anglo-Israelism?
Put most simply, Anglo-Israelism is a theory that explains what happened to the "Lost Ten Tribes" of Israel, where they went, what they did, and who their descendants are today.
A Northward Migration
According to the theory of Anglo-Israelism, also known as British-Israelism, after the Assyrian kingdom was devastated by the Babylonians, the people of the "Lost Ten Tribes" were freed, and most migrated north and northwestward into Europe where they settled and founded the countries known today as Britain, the Netherlands, Belgium, Sweden, (northern) France, (northern) Germany, Switzerland, Denmark, Norway, Finland, among a possible few others. According to Anglo-Israelism, the United States of America is Manasseh, while Britain, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the rest of the Commonwealth are Ephraim. Anglo-Israelists believe that the wealth and power of these nations is due directly to the Biblical blessings that were bestowed upon Ephraim and Manasseh.
Anglo-Israelists also believe that, although all of the sons of King Zedekiah were killed, the throne of David survived the destruction by the Babylonians through the king's daughters (Jeremiah 43:4-7) who eventually made their way to the British Isles with the prophet Jeremiah. They also believe that the Stone of Scone, which Britain has used in the coronation ceremonies of kings and queens for centuries (it was just recently returned to Scotland, however it will still be made available for future coronations), was also used when David was made king. Further, according to the theory, Britain's Queen Elizabeth is today the current holder of that throne of David, and that she, or her successors, will continue to possess it until the ultimate heir, Jesus Christ, returns to claim it.
Critics
Anglo-Israelism has no shortage of critics who do present valid points of argument (without doubt, this study will attract a few dozen of them from all around the world). One could spend an entire lifetime reading the vast amount of work that has been written for, and against, the theory. Human nature, as always, tends to influence one's agreement, or disagreement, with it - those of the nations listed above tend to have an easier time believing it, while those from other countries are much more skeptical. It is however important to make clear that Anglo-Israelism is not about some sort of favoritism, as some critics seem to think, since God does not play favorites. It's about responsibility that some have been given to serve others, and through those blessings, all will be blessed.
All Mixed Up?
One of the critics' most common "proofs" that Anglo-Israelism cannot be true is the mixing of people throughout those nations. For example, they say that the United States cannot be Manasseh because Americans are descended from practically every nation of people on earth. So how can the U.S. be Manasseh when people from all of the other tribes, plus many gentiles, are citizens of the same country?
It's a valid point, except that it ignores that the Israelites have always mixed, with themselves and with gentiles, right from ancient times, and yet the ownership of the allotted territory was not affected. For example, Jesus Christ was of the tribe of Judah, whose allotted lands were to the south around Jerusalem, and yet He lived nearly His entire life up in the north, in Galilee, in the territory of the tribes of Zebulun and Naphtali. His presence there did not affect His status as a Jew, nor did it affect the territorial status of that area. That fact is proven in prophecy: "and leaving Nazareth He went and dwelt in Capernaum by the sea, in the territory of Zebulun and Naphtali, that what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled: "The land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, toward the sea, across the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles - the people who sat in darkness have seen a great light, and for those who sat in the region and shadow of death light has dawned." (Matthew 4:13-16 RSV)
Where Did The Theory Come From?
Although a few modern-day writers are best known for it, some of whom claimed not only to be the first, but to have been given the knowledge directly from God, the theory of Anglo-Israelism is actually centuries old. Here are just a few from a very long list -
• The Puritans of the 1600s claimed to be descended from the ancient Israelites.
• In the Netherlands about 1720, a certain Dr. Abade wrote, "Unless the ten tribes have flown into the air...they must be sought for in the north and west, and in the British Isles."
• In the late 1700s, Richard Brothers, who himself claimed to be descendant of King David, published A Revealed Knowledge of the Prophecies and Times that stated his belief that the lost Israelites were certain Europeans who were unaware of their true ancestry.
•Around 1840, John Wilson, in his Our Israelitish Origin, advocated British-Israelism.
•William Miller also taught British-Israelism, however his credibility was greatly diminished after the "Great Disappointment" that followed his prediction that the Second Coming of Jesus would occur between 1843 and 1845.
• Edward Hine taught British-Israelism widely throughout Britain and the United States in the late 1800s.
• Herbert W. Armstrong, founder of the Worldwide Church of God, who also claimed to be a descendant of King David, widely taught Anglo-Israelism with his The United States and Britain In Prophecy. With the power of modern communications at his disposal, Armstrong became so well known for the theory that some actually began referring to Anglo-Israelism as Armstrongism. Since his death in 1986, what remains of the WCG have abandoned their official belief in Anglo-Israelism, as well as many other of Armstrong's teachings, although his son, Garner Ted Armstrong, who left the WCG in 1978, has steadfastly continued to believe and teach it, as have thousands of other former members in various split-off church groups.
What Difference Does It Make?
As far as Prophecy is concerned, it literally makes all of the difference in the world. Many who read The Bible believe that end-time prophecies about "Israel" mean only the small country of Israel with Jerusalem as its capital - although Jerusalem is indeed going to be "ground zero" for the greatest events of the time just prior to The Return Of Jesus Christ, as well as for The Return itself. Anglo-Israelism (a term that this writer would not have chosen) means that, along with God's blessings, the tribulations that were prophesied upon "Israel" are going to affect vastly more people than many now realize.
But Is It True?
As already mentioned, the debate regarding the validity of the theory goes on. It's a very big subject (this study has presented only the barest outline) that one could spend months studying. And even then, it's impossible to know with absolute certainty, just yet, if it's correct.
However, if you're wondering what this writer believes about the theory, if you haven't already guessed, if I were a gambling man (which I'm not), and had a hundred dollars to risk, I'd bet ninety-nine of them that the theory is true.

11 And thou hast said: I go up against a land of unwalled villages, I go in to those at rest, dwelling confidently, All of them are dwelling without walls, And bar and doors they have not.
12 To take a spoil, and to take a prey, To turn back thy hand on inhabited wastes, And on a people gathered out of nations, Making cattle and substance, Dwelling on a high part of the land.
13 Sheba, and Dedan, and merchants of Tarshish, And all its young lions say to thee: To take a spoil art thou come in? To take a prey assembled thine assembly? To bear away silver and gold? To take away cattle and substance? To take a great spoil?
14 Therefore, prophesy, son of man, and thou hast said to Gog: Thus said the Lord Jehovah: In that day, in the dwelling of My people Israel safely, Dost thou not know?
15 And thou hast come in out of thy place, From the sides of the north, Thou and many peoples with thee, Riding on horses -- all of them, A great assembly, and a numerous force.
16 And thou hast come up against My people Israel, As a cloud to cover the land, In the latter end of the days it is, And I have brought thee in against My land, In order that the nations may know Me, In My being sanctified in thee before their eyes, O Gog.
17 Thus said the Lord Jehovah: Art thou he of whom I spake in former days, By the hand of My servants, prophets of Israel, Who are prophesying in those days -- years, To bring thee in against them?
18 And it hath come to pass, in that day, In the day of the coming in of Gog against the land of Israel, An affirmation of the Lord Jehovah, Come up doth My fury in My face,
19 And in My zeal, in the fire of My wrath, I have spoken: Is there not in that day a great rushing on the land of Israel?
20 And rushed from My presence have fishes of the sea, And the fowl of the heavens, And the beast of the field, And every creeping thing that is creeping on the ground, And all men who [are] on the face of the ground, And thrown down have been the mountains, And fallen have the ascents, And every wall to the earth falleth.
21 And I have called against him, to all My mountains a sword, An affirmation of the Lord Jehovah, The sword of each is against his brother.
22 And I have been judged with him, With pestilence and with blood, And an overflowing rain and hailstones, Fire and brimstone I rain on him, and on his bands, And on many peoples who [are] with him.
23 And I have magnified Myself, and sanctified Myself, And I have been known before the eyes of many nations, And they have known that I [am] Jehovah!
The Lord said:
Ezekiel, human being, condemn Gog, that wicked ruler of the kingdoms of Meshech and Tubal in the land of Magog. Tell him:
I, the Godhead, is your enemy,
and I will make you powerless! I will put a hook in your jaw and drag away both you and your large army. You command cavalry troops that wear heavy armor and carry shields and swords.
Your army includes soldiers from Persia, Ethiopia, and Libya,
also including Gomer and Beth-Togarmah in the north. Your army is enormous!
Keep your troops prepared to fight,
because in a few years, I will direct you to invade Israel, a country that was ruined by war. It was deserted for a long time, but its people have returned from the foreign nations where they migrated. The Israelites now live in peace in the mountains of their own land.
But you and your army will attack them like a fierce thunderstorm and surround them like a cloud.
When that time comes, I know that you will have an evil plan
to take advantage of Israel, that weak and peaceful country where people live safely inside towns that have no walls, gates or locks.
You will rob the people in towns that were once piles of rubble. These people lived as prisoners in foreign nations, but they have returned to Israel, the most important place in the world, and they own livestock and property.
The people of Sheba and Dedan, along with merchants from villages in southern Spain, will be your allies. They will want some of the silver and gold, as well as the livestock and property that your army takes from Israel.
I, the Godhead, know that when you see my people Israel residing peacefully,
you will lead your powerful cavalry from your kingdom in the north.
You will attack my people like a storm-cloud that covers their land. I will let you invade My country Israel, so that every nation on earth will know that I, the Lord, am holy.
The Lord said to Gog:
Long ago, I had my prophets warn the people of Israel that someday I would send an enemy to attack them. You, Gog, are that enemy, and that day is coming.
When you invade Israel, I will become furious,
and in my anger I will send a terrible earthquake to shake Israel.
Every living thing on earth will tremble in fear of Me—every fish, bird, wild animal, reptile, and every human. Mountains will crumble, cliffs will fall, and cities will collapse.
I, the Lord, will make the mountains of Israel turn against you. Your troops will be so terrified that they will attack each other.
I will strike you with diseases and punish you with death. You and your army will be pounded with rainstorms, hailstones, and brimstone.
I will do these things to show the world that I, the Lord, am holy.
