Haggai 1:1-15

On the first day of the sixth month of King Darius’ second year reigning, the Lord presented this message through the prophet Haggai to Shealtiel's son, the governor of Judah named Zerubbabel, and to Jehozadak's son, the high priest named Joshua.

The Lord who rules everything says, “These people say, ‘The time for rebuilding the Lord’s temple has not arrived.”

So the Lord spoke through the prophet Haggai the following:

“Is it right for you to live in richly decorated residences while My temple lies in ruins?

Think deligently concerning your actions.

You have planted much, but have harvested little. You eat, but are always hungry for more. You drink, but are still thirsty. You put on garments, but are not warm. Those who earn wages end up with holes in their money bags.

Additionally, pay close attention to the following:

Go up to the hill country and fetch timber to build the temple. Then I will be pleased and honored.

You expected a large harvest, but instead it was meager, and when you brought it home it was eatened up immediately. Why? Because My temple is a shambles, thanks to each of you favoring his own house!

This is why the sky has held back its dew and the earth its produce.

Additionally, I have called for a drought that will affect the fields, the hill country, the grain, new wine, fresh olive oil, and everything that grows upon the ground. It will also bring harm to the people, animals, and everything they produce.”

Then Shealtiel's son Zerubbabel and Jehozadak's son Joshua the high priest, along with all the survivors of the people, obeyed the Lord their God. They responded favorably to the message of the prophet Haggai, who spoke exactly as the Lord their God had instructed him, and the people began to respect the Lord.

Then Haggai, the Lord’s messenger, spoke the Lord’s word to the people saying, " 'I am with you!' says the Lord."

So the Lord energized and encouraged Zerubbabel governor of Judah, and the high priest Joshua, and all the survivors of the people. They came and worked on the temple of their God, the Lord who rules everything.

This occurred on the 24 day of the 6 month of King Darius’ second year of reigning.

Young's Literal Translation (YLT)

1 In the second year of Darius the king, in the sixth month, in the first day of the month, hath a word of Jehovah been by the hand of Haggai the prophet, unto Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, governor o Judah, and unto Joshua son of Josedech, the high priest, saying:

2 Thus spake Jehovah of Hosts, saying: This people! -- they have said, `The time hath not come, The time the house of Jehovah [is] to be built.'

3 And there is a word of Jehovah by the hand of Haggai the prophet, saying:

4 Is it time for you -- you! To dwell in your covered houses, And this house to lie waste?

5 And now, thus said Jehovah of Hosts, Set your heart to your ways.

6 Ye have sown much, and brought in little, To eat, and not to satiety, To drink, and not to drunkenness, To clothe, and none hath heat, And he who is hiring himself out, Is hiring himself for a bag pierced through.

7 Thus said Jehovah of Hosts: Set your heart to your ways.

8 Go up the mountain, and ye have brought in wood, And build the house, and I am pleased with it. And I am honoured, said Jehovah.

9 Looking for much, and lo, little, And ye brought [it] home, and I blew on it, Wherefore? -- an affirmation of Jehovah of Hosts, Because of My house that is waste, And ye are running -- each to his house,

10 Therefore, over you refrained have the heavens from dew, And the land hath refrained its increase.

11 And I proclaim draught on the land, And on the mountains, and on the corn, And on the new wine, and on the oil, And on what the ground doth bring forth, And on man, and on beast, And on all labour of the hands.'

12 And Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, and Joshua son of Josedech, the high priest, and all the remnant of the people, do hearken to the voice of Jehovah their God, and unto the words of Haggai the prophet, as Jehovah their God had sent him, and the people are afraid of the face of Jehovah.

13 And Haggai, messenger of Jehovah, in messages of Jehovah, speaketh to the people, saying: `I [am] with you, an affirmation of Jehovah.'

14 And Jehovah doth stir up the spirit of Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua son of Josedech, the high priest, and the spirit of all the remnant of the people, and they come in, and do work in the house of Jehovah of Hosts their God,

15 in the twenty and fourth day of the sixth month, in the second year of Darius the king

Haggai 2:1-23

In the 7th month, on the 21st day, the word of the Lord came by Haggai the prophet, saying:

"Speak now to Shealtiel's son Zerubbabel the governor of Judah, and to Jehozadak's son Joshua the high priest, and to all the survivors of the people, and say,

Who is left among you who saw the temple in its former glory? How do you view it presently? Isn't it entirely different?

But be courageous, Dear Zerubbabel, says the Lord. Be courageous, Dear Joshua. Be courageous all you citizens, says the Lord. Work, for I am with you, says the godhead.

According to the covenant that I made with you when you came out of Egypt, so My Spirit remains among you. Have no fear.

For the Godhead says, "Once again, momentarily I will unsettle the heavens and earth, the sea and dry land.

And I will unsettle all the nations, and they will come to this desire of all nationalities, and I will fill this house with glory, says the Godhead.

All silver and gold belongs to me, says the Godhead.

The glory of this future abode will be greater than the old one, says the Lord of Hosts. And from this abode I will give peace, says the Lord of Hosts." (This "house" predicts the coming of Jesus the Messiah)

On the 24th day of the 9th month ---- the 2nd year of Darius' reign, the word of the Lord came by Haggai the prophet, saying:

"So says the Godhead: Now ask the priests concerning the law, if a man carries holy meat in the fold of his robe, and touches with his fold bread or stew, or wine or oil, or any food, will it become holy?"

The priests answered, “No.”

Then Haggai said, “If one who is unclean through contact with a dead body touches any of these, will such become unclean?”

The priests answered, “Such will become unclean.”

Then Haggai said, "So it is with this people, and so it is with this nation before Me, says the Lord, and with every work of their hands; and there offering is unclean.

Now consider from this day onward: from before stone was erected upon stone in the temple of the Lord,

from those days when one came to a pile of 20 measures, there were only 10. When one came to the wine vat to draw 50 measures, there were only 20.

I struck you and all the labor of your hands with blight and mildew and hail; yet you did not come to Me.

Consider from this day onward, from the 24th of the 9th month, from the day when the foundation of the temple of the Lord was laid, consider:

Is the seed yet in the barn? As of yet, the vine, the fig tree, the pomegranate, and the olive tree have yielded nothing.

But from this day on I will bless you.

The word of the Lord came a second time to Haggai on the 24th day of the month:

Speak to Judah's govenor Zerubbabel, and say, "I will unsettle the heavens and the earth.

I will overthrow the throne of the kingdoms. I will destroy the power of the kingdoms of the nations. I will overthrow the chariots and their riders. The horses and their riders will tumble, every one by the sword of his brother.

On that day, says the Lord of Hosts, I will take you, dear Zerubbabel My servant, son of Shealtiel, says the Lord, and I will make you like a signet ring; for I have chosen you, says the Godhead."

Young's Literal Translation (YLT)

1 In the seventh [month], in the twenty and first of the month, hath a word of Jehovah been by the hand of Haggai the prophet, saying:

2 `Speak, I pray thee, unto Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and unto Joshua, son of Josedech, the high priest, and unto the remnant of the people, saying:

3 Who among you hath been left that saw this house in its former honour? And what are ye seeing it now? Is it not, compared with it, as nothing in your eyes?

4 And now, be strong, O Zerubbabel, An affirmation of Jehovah, And be strong, O Joshua, son of Josedech, the high priest, And be strong, all ye people of the land, An affirmation of Jehovah, And do ye- (for I [am] with you, An affirmation of Jehovah of Hosts) --

5 The thing that I covenanted with you, In your coming forth from Egypt, And My Spirit is remaining in your midst, fear not.

6 For thus said Jehovah of Hosts: Yet once more -- it [is] a little, And I am shaking the heavens and the earth, And the sea, and the dry land,

7 And I have shaken all the nations, And they have come [to] the desire of all the nations, And I have filled this house [with] honour, Said Jehovah of Hosts.

8 Mine [is] the silver, and Mine the gold, An affirmation of Jehovah of Hosts.

9 Greater is the honour of this latter house, Than of the former, said Jehovah of Hosts, And in this place do I give peace, An affirmation of Jehovah of Hosts.'

10 On the twenty and fourth of the ninth [month], in the second year of Darius, hath a word of Jehovah been by the hand of Haggai the prophet, saying:

11 Thus said Jehovah of Hosts: `Ask, I pray thee, the priests [of] the law, saying:

12 Lo, one doth carry holy flesh in the skirt of his garment, and he hath come with his skirt against the bread, or against the pottage, or against the wine, or against the oil, or against any food -- is it holy?' And the priests answer and say, `No.'

13 And Haggai saith, `If the unclean of body doth come against any of these, is it unclean?' And the priests answer and say, `It is unclean.'

14 And Haggai answereth and saith, `So [is] this people, and so [is] this nation before Me -- an affirmation of Jehovah -- and so [is] every work of their hands, and that which they bring near there -- it is unclean.

15 And now, lay [it], I pray you, to your heart, From this day, and onwards, Before the laying of stone to stone in the temple of Jehovah.

16 From that time [one] hath come to a heap of twenty, And it hath been ten, He hath come unto the wine-fat to draw out fifty purahs, And it hath been twenty.

17 I have smitten you with blasting, And with mildew, and with hail -- All the work of your hands, And there is none of you with Me, An affirmation of Jehovah.

18 Set [it], I pray you, to your heart, from this day and onwards, from the twenty and fourth day of the ninth [month], even from the day that the temple of Jehovah hath been founded, set [it] to your heart.

19 Is the seed yet in the barn? And hitherto the vine and the fig, And the pomegranate, and the olive-tree, Have not borne -- from this day I bless.'

20 And there is a word of Jehovah a second time unto Haggai, on the twenty and fourth of the month, saying:

21 `Speak unto Zerubbabel governor of Judah, saying: I am shaking the heavens and the earth,

22 And have overturned the throne of kingdoms, And I have destroyed the strength of kingdoms of the nations, And overturned chariot and its charioteers, And come down have horses and their riders, Each by the sword of his brother.

23 In that day -- an affirmation of Jehovah of Hosts, I take thee, Zerubbabel, son of Shealtiel, My servant -- an affirmation of Jehovah, And have set thee as a signet, for on thee I have fixed, An affirmation of Jehovah of Hosts!

Zechariah 1:1-21

In the 8th month during the 2nd year of Darius' reign, the Lord’s word came to Berechiah’s son and Iddo’s grandson Zechariah the prophet as follows:

"The Lord was terribly angry with your ancestors.

However, you are to tell the people, that Jehovah proclaims: Return to Me, and I will come to you.

Don’t be like your ancestors, to whom the former prophets preached that Jehovah said that they needed to turn from their evil ways and deeds. However, they didn’t listen. They didn’t draw near to Me.

So exactly where are these ancestors of yours? Do even the prophets live forever?

The truth is, didn’t My words and laws, which I gave to the prophets (My servant), follow your ancestors?

And then the people had a change of heart, and they said, Jehovah has treated us according to our works --- exactly as He planned.

On the 24th day of the 11th month (the month of Shebat) during the 2nd year of Darius' reign, the Lord’s word came to Berechiah’s son and Iddo’s grandson Zechariah the prophet as follows:

Tonight I observed a man riding on a red horse, standing among the myrtle trees in the valley. And behind him were red, sorrel, and white horses.

I asked, “What are these, sir?” The angel speaking with me responded, “I will reveal to you what they are.”

The individual standing among the myrtles responded, “These are the ones the Lord sent to patrol the earth.”

They responded to the Lord’s angel, standing among the myrtles, “We have patrolled the earth. The whole earth is peaceful and quiet.”

Then the Lord’s messenger, who was speaking with me, said, “Jehovah, how long will You withhold compassion from Jerusalem and the cities of Judah, with whom You have been angry for 70 years?”

The Lord responded to the angel who was speaking with me with kind compassionate words. The messenger speaking with me called out, “This is what Jehovah said, "I care passionately about Jerusalem and Zion.

And I am very angry with those carefree nations. Though I was somewhat angry, they added to the violence.”

As a result, this is what the Lord says: I have returned to Jerusalem with compassion. My temple will be built there, says the Godhead. Let a measuring line be stretched over Jerusalem.

“Call out again, The Godhead proclaims: My cities will again overflow with prosperity. The Lord will again show compassion to Zion and will reselect Jerusalem.”

Then I looked up and noticed four horns.

I asked the angel speaking with me, “What are these?" He replied, “These are the horns that dispersed Judah, Israel, and Jerusalem.”

Then the Lord showed me 4 metalworkers.

I asked,“What is their intent?” And he answered, “Regarding the horns that dispersed Judah so that no one could lift his head --- the metalworkers have arrived to terrify them and to destroy the horns of the nations who were attacking the land of Judah using horns to scatter it.”

Young's Literal Translation (YLT)

1 In the eighth month, in the second year of Darius, hath a word of Jehovah been unto Zechariah, son of Berechiah, son of Iddo, the prophet, saying:

2 `Jehovah was wroth against your fathers -- wrath!

3 And thou hast said unto them, Thus said Jehovah of Hosts, turn back unto Me, An affirmation of Jehovah of Hosts, And I turn back unto you, said Jehovah of Hosts.

4 Ye shall not be as your fathers, To whom the former prophets called, saying: Thus said Jehovah of Hosts, Turn back I pray you, From your evil ways and from your evil doings, And they did not hearken, Nor attend to Me -- an affirmation of Jehovah.

5 Your fathers -- where [are] they? And the prophets -- to the age do they live?

6 Only, My words, and My statutes, That I commanded My servants the prophets, Have they not overtaken your fathers, And they turn back and say: As Jehovah of Hosts designed to do to us, According to our ways, and according to our doings, So He hath done to us?'

7 On the twenty and fourth day of the eleventh month, (it [is] the month of Sebat,) in the second year of Darius, hath a word of Jehovah been unto Zechariah, son of Berechiah, son of Iddo, the prophet, saying:

8 I have seen by night, and lo, one riding on a red horse, and he is standing between the myrtles that [are] in the shade, and behind him [are] horses, red, bay, and white.

9 And I say, `What [are] these, my lord?' And the messenger who is speaking with me saith unto me, `I -- I do shew thee what these [are].'

10 And the one who is standing between the myrtles doth answer and say, `These [are] they whom Jehovah hath sent to walk up and down in the land.'

11 And they answer the messenger of Jehovah who is standing between the myrtles, and say, `We have walked up and down in the land, and lo, all the land is sitting still, and at rest.'

12 And the messenger of Jehovah answereth and saith, `Jehovah of Hosts! till when dost Thou not pity Jerusalem, and the cities of Judah, that Thou hast abhorred these seventy years?'

13 And Jehovah answereth the messenger, who is speaking with me, good words, comfortable words.

14 And the messenger who is speaking with me, saith unto me, `Call, saying: Thus said Jehovah of Hosts: I have been zealous for Jerusalem, and for Zion [with] great zeal.

15 And [with] great wrath I am wroth against the nations who are at ease, For I was a little wroth, and they assisted -- for evil.

16 Therefore, thus said Jehovah: I have turned to Jerusalem with mercies, My house is built in it, An affirmation of Jehovah of Hosts, And a line is stretched over Jerusalem.

17 Again call, saying: Thus said Jehovah of Hosts, Again do my cities overflow from good, And Jehovah hath again comforted Zion, And He hath fixed again on Jerusalem.'

18 And I lift up mine eyes, and look, and lo, four horns.

19 And I say unto the messenger who is speaking with me, `What [are] these?' And he saith unto me, `These [are] the horns that have scattered Judah, Israel, and Jerusalem.'

20 And Jehovah doth shew me four artizans.

21 And I say, `What [are] these coming in to do?' And He speaketh, saying: `These [are] the horns that have scattered Judah, so that no one hath lifted up his head, and these come in to trouble them, to cast down the horns of the nations who are lifting up a horn against the land of Judah -- to scatter it.'

Zechariah 2:1-13

I looked up, and I saw a man carrying a tape measure.

I asked, “Where are you off to?” He responded, “To measure Jerusalem and to note its dimensions.”

Then the angel who was talking with me left, and another angel came to meet him,

and said to him, “Hurry, say to this young man: Jerusalem will be inhabited as villages without walls, because of the shear numbers of men and animals in her.

And I will be like a firewall surrounding her, says the Lord, and as glory in her midst.”

Get up! flee from the northern land, says the Lord, for I have spread you around like the four winds of heaven.

Save yourself, Zion, you who live with the daughter of Babylon.

For this says the Lord of Hosts: He has sent Me after glory to the nations which ransack you, for he who touches you touches the apple of His eye.

For I will take a swipe at them, and they will become plunder for their servants. Then you will fully realize that the Godhead has sent Me.

Sing and rejoice, dear daughter of Zion, for I am coming and will live among you, says the Lord.

And many nations will align themselves with the Lord in that day, and they will be My Chosen. And I will live among you, and you will know that the Godhead has sent Me to you.

And the Lord will control Judah as His portion in the holy land, and He will again select Jerusalem.

Remain quiet, all flesh before the Lord, for He is moving from His holy habitation."

Young's Literal Translation (YLT)-

1 And I lift up mine eyes, and look, and lo, a man, and in his hand a measuring line.

2 And I say, `Whither are thou going?' And he saith unto me, `To measure Jerusalem, to see how much [is] its breadth, and how much its length.'

3 And lo, the messenger who is speaking with me is going out, and another messenger is going out to meet him,

4 and he saith unto him, `Run, speak unto this young man, saying: Unwalled villages inhabit doth Jerusalem, From the abundance of man and beast in her midst.

5 And I -- I am to her -- an affirmation of Jehovah, A wall of fire round about, And for honour I am in her midst.

6 Ho, ho, and flee from the land of the north, An affirmation of Jehovah, For, as the four winds of the heavens, I have spread you abroad, An affirmation of Jehovah.

7 Ho, Zion, be delivered who art dwelling [with] the daughter of Babylon.

8 For thus said Jehovah of Hosts: After honour He hath sent me unto the nations who are spoiling you, For he who is coming against you, Is coming against the daughter of His eye.

9 For lo, I am waving my hand against them, And they have been a spoil to their servants. And ye have known that Jehovah of Hosts hath sent me.

10 Sing, and rejoice, O daughter of Zion, For lo, I am coming, and have dwelt in thy midst, An affirmation of Jehovah.

11 And joined have been many nations unto Jehovah in that day, And they have been to Me for a people, And I have dwelt in thy midst, And thou hast known that Jehovah of Hosts hath sent me unto
thee.

12 And Jehovah hath inherited Judah, His portion on the holy ground, And He hath fixed again on Jerusalem.

13 Hush, all flesh, because of Jehovah, For He hath been roused up from His holy habitation!'

Zechariah 3:1-10

Then the angel showed me Joshua, the high priest, standing before the angel of the Lord, and Satan standing on his right hand to accuse him.

And the Lord said to Satan, “The Lord rebuke you, Satan! The Lord who has selected Jerusalem rebukes you! Is this not a burning brand taken out of the fire?”

Now Joshua wore dirty clothing and was standing in front of the angel.

And He said to those standing before Him, “remove his filthy garments.” Then He said, “See I have removed your iniquity, and I will dress you with rich robes.”

And I said, “Let them place a pure turban on his head.” So they put a pure turban on his head and garments on him. And the angel of the Lord was standing by.

And the angel of the Lord advised Joshua, saying,

“So says the Godhead: If you walk in My ways and keep My charge, then you will judge My house and guard My courts, and I will give to you access to these who are standing here.

“Hear this, Dear Joshua high priest, you and your friends sitting before you, for these men are a sign. I am bringing My servant, the Branch.

The stone that I have placed in front of Joshua --- that single stone has seven eyes. And I will engrave an inscription, says the Godhead, and I will remove the sin of this land in one day.

“On that day, says the Godhead, each of you will invite your friend to come and sit under the vine and under the fig tree.”

Zechariah Young's Literal Translation (YLT)

1 And he sheweth me Joshua the high priest standing before the messenger of Jehovah, and the Adversary standing at his right hand, to be an adversary to him.

2 And Jehovah saith unto the Adversary: `Jehovah doth push against thee, O Adversary, Yea, push against thee doth Jehovah, Who is fixing on Jerusalem, Is not this a brand delivered from fire?'

3 And Joshua was clothed with filthy garments, and is standing before the messenger.

4 And he answereth and speaketh unto those standing before him, saying: `Turn aside the filthy garments from off him.' And he saith unto him, `See, I have caused thine iniquity to pass away from off
thee, so as to clothe thee with costly apparel.'

5 He also said, `Let them set a pure diadem on his head. And they set the pure diadem on his head, and clothe him with garments. And the messenger of Jehovah is standing,

6 and the messenger of Jehovah doth protest to Joshua, saying:

7 `Thus said Jehovah of Hosts: If in My ways thou dost walk, And if My charge thou dost keep, Then also thou dost judge My house, And also thou dost keep My courts, And I have given to thee conductors
among these standing by.

8 Hear, I pray thee, Joshua, the high priest, Thou and thy companions sitting before thee, (For men of type [are] they,) For lo, I am bringing in My servant -- a Shoot.

9 For lo, the stone that I put before Joshua, On one stone [are] seven eyes, Lo, I am graving its graving, An affirmation of Jehovah of Hosts, And I have removed the iniquity of that land in one day.

10 In that day -- an affirmation of Jehovah of Hosts, Ye do call, each unto his neighbour, Unto the place of the vine, And unto the place of the fig-tree!'

Zechariah 4:1-14

And the angel who was speaking with me returned and aroused me as thought I had been sleeping.

And he asked me, “What do you see?”

I responded, “I see a completely gold lampstand with a bowl reservoir at its top, supporting 7 lamps, and seven pipes on it for each lamp to light them.

And there are two olive trees next to it, one on the right of the bowl and one on the left.”

So I answered and then asked the angel speaking with me, “What are these, my lord?”

Then the angel speaking with me responded, “You don't have any clue?”

And I answered, “No, my lord.”

And he said to me: “This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel, saying: Not by strength nor by political connections, but by My Spirit, says the Lord of Hosts.

“Who are you, Dear great mountain? In front of Zerubbabel you will be reduced to level ground, and he will bring out the cap stone amidst shouting of ‘Grace! Grace to the stone!’ ”

Then the word of the Lord came to me, saying:

“The handiwork of Zerubbabel has established the foundation of this house, and they will also finish it. Then you will know that the Godgead has sent Me to all of you.

“For who has contempt for the day of small things? These seven will rejoice and see the plumb line in the hand of Zerubbabel. These are the eyes of the Lord, which observe to and fro throughout the earth.”

Then I asked, “What are these two olives trees on the right and left of the lampstand?”

And I asked a second time, “What are these two branches of the olive trees that are next to the two golden pipes from which they pour out the gold oil?”

And he asked me, “Have you no clue?”

I responded, “No, my lord.”

He answered, “These are the two anointed ones who stand by the Lord of all the earth.”

Young's Literal Translation (YLT)

1 And the messenger who is speaking with me doth turn back, and stir me up as one who is stirred up out of his sleep,

2 and he saith unto me, `What art thou seeing?' And I say, `I have looked, and lo, a candlestick of gold -- all of it, and its bowl [is] on its top, and its seven lamps [are] upon it, and twice seven pipes [are] to the lights that [are] on its top,

3 and two olive-trees [are] by it, one on the right of the bowl, and one on its left.'

4 And I answer and speak unto the messenger who is speaking with me, saying, `What [are] these, my lord?'

5 And the messenger who is speaking with me answereth and saith unto me, `Hast thou not known what these [are]?' And I say, `No, my lord.'

6 And he answereth and speaketh unto me, saying: `This [is] a word of Jehovah unto Zerubbabel, saying: Not by a force, nor by power, But -- by My Spirit, said Jehovah of Hosts.

7 Who [art] thou, O great mountain Before Zerubbabel -- for a plain! And he hath brought forth the top-stone, Cries of Grace, grace -- [are] to it.'

8 And there is a word of Jehovah to me, saying,

9 Hands of Zerubbabel did found this house, And his hands do finish it, And thou hast known that Jehovah of Hosts Hath sent me unto you.

10 For who trampled on the day of small things, they have rejoiced, And seen the tin weight in the hand of Zerubbabel, these seven [are] the eyes of Jehovah, they are going to and fro in all the land.'

11 And I answer and say unto him, `What [are] these two olive-trees, on the right of the candlestick, and on its left?'

12 And I answer a second time, and say unto him, `What [are] the two branches of the olive trees that, by means of the two golden pipes, are emptying out of themselves the oil?'

13 And he speaketh unto me, saying, `Hast thou not known what these [are]?' And I say, `No, my lord.'

14 And he saith, `These [are] the two sons of the oil, who are standing by the Lord of the whole earth.'

Zechariah 5:1-11

Once more I looked up, and I saw in front of me a flying scroll.

The angel said to me, “What do you observe?” I replied, “I see a flying scroll 30' long and 15' wide.

Then he said to me, “This is the curse that travels covering the face of all the land, according to the writing on one side, anyone stealing will be swept away. And according to what is written on the other side, anyone cursing will be swept away.

'I will release it,' says Lord of Hosts, 'and it will enter the thief's house and the house of anyone who swears falsely applying my name; it will stay there inside the house and consume it completely, even its roof and walls.’"

Then the angel speaking with me moved on and said to me, “Look up, and see what this thing is, passing by.”

I asked, “What is it?” He said, “This is the eifah [one-bushel of dry-measure] passing by.” Then he added, “This is how they appear in the land.”

Next I saw a lead disc opened to reveal a woman sitting in the one-bushel of dry-measure.

He said, “This is Evil.” He threw her down into the eifah and pressed the lead weight over its opening.

I raised my eyes and saw two women arrive with their wings moving; for they had wings like those of a stork. They carried the eifah up between the ground and the sky.

I asked the angel talking with me, “Where are they taking the eifah?”

He replied, “To build it a shrine in the land of Shinar. When it’s ready, it will be placed there on its base.”

Young's Literal Translation (YLT)

1 And I turn back, and lift up mine eyes, and look, and lo, a flying roll.

2 And he saith unto me, `What art thou seeing?' And I say, `I am seeing a flying roll, its length twenty by the cubit, and its breadth ten by the cubit.'

3 And he saith unto me, `This [is] the execration that is going forth over the face of all the land, for every one who is stealing, on the one side, according to it, hath been declared innocent, and everyone who hath sworn, on the other side, according to it, hath been declared innocent.

4 `I have brought it out -- an affirmation of Jehovah of Hosts -- and it hath come in unto the house of the thief, and unto the house of him who hath sworn in My name to a falsehood, and it hath remained in the midst of his house, and hath consumed it, both its wood and its stones.'

5 And the messenger who is speaking with me goeth forth, and saith unto me, `Lift up, I pray thee, thine eyes, and see what [is] this that is coming forth?'

6 And I say, `What [is] it?' And he saith, `This -- the ephah that is coming forth.' And he saith, `This [is] their aspect in all the land.

7 And lo, a cake of lead lifted up; and this [is] a woman sitting in the midst of the ephah.'

8 And he saith, `This [is] the wicked woman.' And he casteth her unto the midst of the ephah, and casteth the weight of lead on its mouth.

9 And I lift up mine eyes, and see, and lo, two women are coming forth, and wind in their wings; and they have wings like wings of the stork, and they lift up the ephah between the earth and the
heavens.

10 And I say unto the messenger who is speaking with me, `Whither [are] they causing the ephah to go?'

11 And he saith unto me, `To build to it a house in the land of Shinar.' And it hath been prepared and hath been placed there on its base.

Zechariah 6:1-15

I turned and look up, and I saw ahead of me 4 chariots coming out from between two mountains, and the mountains were mountains of bronze.

The first chariot had red horses; the second chariot, black horses;

the third chariot, white horses; and the fourth chariot, spotted gray horses.

I asked the angel speaking with me, “What are these, Sir?”

The angel answered me, “These are the four winds of the sky that go out, after presenting themselves before the Lord of all the land.

The one with the black horses is heading toward the land in the north, the white ones have gone out after them. And the spotted are headed toward the land in the south.”

Then these strong ones went out and were ready to leave and wander across the whole earth, when he said, “Wander across the whole earth”; and they did wander throughout the whole earth.

Then he called to me and said, “Observe! The ones going to the land in the north have given my Spirit rest in the north country.”

Then the word of the Lord came to me, saying:

Take from the exiles Heldai, Tobijah, and Jedaiah who have arrived from Babylon, and go on that day to Zephaniah's son Josiah's house.

Take the silver and gold and make a crown, and place it upon Joshua's head, the son of Jehozadak, the high priest.

And say to him: So says the Lord of armies: Here is a man who is called Branch because he shall branch out from where he is, and he shall build the temple of the Lord.

It is he who shall construct the temple of the Lord; he shall bear the glory, and shall sit and rule on his throne. He shall be a priest on his throne, and the counsel of peace shall be between both positions.

And the crown shall be for a memorial to Helem, Tobijah, Jedaiah, and Zephaniah's son Hen, in the temple of the Lord.

And those who are far away shall come and help to build the temple of the Lord; and you all shall know that the Lord of armies has sent me to you. This shall occur if you diligently obey the voice of the Lord your God.

Young's Literal Translation (YLT)

1 And I turn back, and lift up mine eyes, and look, and lo, four chariots are coming forth from between two of the mountains, and the mountains [are] mountains of brass.

2 In the first chariot [are] red horses, and in the second chariot brown horses,

3 and in the third chariot white horses, and in the fourth chariot strong grisled horses.

4 And I answer and say unto the messenger who is speaking with me, `What [are] these, my lord?'

5 And the messenger answereth and saith unto me, `These [are] four spirits of the heavens coming forth from presenting themselves before the Lord of the whole earth.

6 The brown horses that [are] therein, are coming forth unto the land of the north; and the white have come forth unto their hinder part; and the grisled have come forth unto the land of the south;

7 and the strong ones have come forth, and they seek to go to walk up and down in the earth;' and he saith, `Go, walk up and down in the earth;' and they walk up and down in the earth.

8 And he calleth me, and speaketh unto me, saying, `See, those coming forth unto the land of the north have caused My Spirit to rest in the land of the north.'

9 And there is a word of Jehovah unto me, saying,

10 to take of the captivity (who came from Babylon) from Heldai, from Tobijah, and from Jedaiah, `and thou hast come in -- thou, in that day, yea, thou hast come into the house of Josiah son of Zephaniah,

11 and thou hast taken silver and gold, and hast made a crown, and hast placed on the head of Joshua son of Josedech, the high priest,

12 and hast spoken unto him, saying: Thus spake Jehovah of Hosts, saying: Lo, a man! A Shoot -- [is] his name, And from his place he doth shoot up, And he hath built the temple of Jehovah.

13 Yea, he doth build the temple of Jehovah, And he doth bear away honour, And he hath sat and ruled on His throne, And hath been a priest on His throne, And a counsel of peace is between both.

14 And the crown is to Helem, and to Tobijah, and to Jedaiah, and to Hen son of Zephaniah, for a memorial in the temple of Jehovah.

15 And the far-off come in, and they have built in the temple of Jehovah, and ye have known that Jehovah of Hosts hath sent me unto you, yea, it hath come to pass, if ye do certainly hearken to the voice of Jehovah your God.'

Zechariah 7:1-14

During the 4th year of Darius the king's reign, the Lord’s word came to Zechariah on the 4th day of the ninth month, Kislev [late November]

The people of Bethel sent Sharezer and Regem-Melech, along with his men, to seek the Lord’s will,

saying to the priests who were in the house of the Lord's armies and the prophets: “Should I cry in the 5th month and fast as I have done for many years?”

Then the word of the Lord's army came to me:

"Say to all the citizens and to the priests: When you fasted and lamented in the 5th month and the 7th month for the past 70 years, did you regard Me?

When you ate and drank, weren’t you the ones benefiting?

Weren’t these the words that the Lord proclaimed through former prophets when Jerusalem was living serenely along with the surrounding communities, and when the dry southern plain and the western foothills were inhabited?"

The Lord’s word came to Zechariah:

The Lord of armies proclaims: "Make just and faithful decisions; show kindness and compassion to each other!

Don’t oppress the widow, the orphan, the stranger, and the poor; don’t plan evil against each other!

However, they refused to listen. They ignored and stopped listening.

They sealed their hearts against listening to Instruction and the words that the Lord of armies sent by His Spirit through earlier prophets. As a result, the Lord of armies became angered.

So just as when I called and they ignored, when they called, I ignored, says the Lord of heavenly forces.

I scattered them among the nations whom they didn’t know. The land was ruined behind them, with no one around. They turned a wonderful country into a waste.

Young's Literal Translation (YLT)

1 And it cometh to pass, in the fourth year of Darius the king hath a word of Jehovah been unto Zechariah, in the fourth of the ninth month, in Chisleu.

2 And Beth-El sendeth Sherezer and Regem-Melech, and its men, to appease the face of Jehovah,

3 speaking unto the priests who [are] at the house of Jehovah of Hosts, and unto the prophets, saying, `Do I weep in the fifth month -- being separated -- as I have done these so many years?'

4 And there is a word of Jehovah of Hosts unto me, saying:

5 `Speak unto all the people of the land, and unto the priests, saying:

6 When ye fasted with mourning in the fifth and in the seventh [months] -- even these seventy years -- did ye keep the fast [to] Me -- Me? And when ye eat, and when ye drink, is it not ye who are
eating, and ye who are drinking?

7 `Are not [these] the words that Jehovah proclaimed by the hand of the former prophets, in Jerusalem's being inhabited, and [in] safety, and its cities round about it, and the south and the plain
abiding?'

8 And there is a word of Jehovah unto Zechariah, saying:

9 `Thus spake Jehovah of Hosts, saying: True judgment judge ye, And kindness and mercy do one with another.

10 And widow, and fatherless, Sojourner, and poor, ye do not oppress, And the calamity of one another ye do not devise in your heart.

11 And they refuse to attend, And they give a refractory shoulder, And their ears have made heavy against hearing.

12 And their heart they have made adamant, Against hearing the law, and the words, That Jehovah of Hosts sent by His Spirit, By the hand of the former prophets, And their is great wrath from Jehovah
of Hosts.

13 And it cometh to pass, as He called, And they have not hearkened, So do they call, and I do not hearken, Said Jehovah of Hosts.

14 And I toss them on all the nations, That they have not known, The land hath been desolate behind them, Of any passing by and turning back, And they set a desirable land for a desolation!

Zechariah 8:1-23 [This maybe considered as a prophetic message yet to be fulfilled]

Now the Lord of armies came, saying,

So speaks the Lord of hosts, ‘I am vigilant in guarding Zion demanding what is rightfully and uniquely mine, and I am jealous for her with great wrath.

I shall return to Zion and will live surrounded by Jerusalem, and Jerusalem shall be called the City of Truth, and the mountain of the Lord of armies will be referred to as the Holy Mountain.

The elderly will again sit in public spaces in Jerusalem, each man with his cane in his hand because He'll live to an advanced age.

And the streets of the city will be filled with children playing.

If such is unbelievable in the eyes of the survivors of this people when this comes to pass, will it also be difficult for My sight?

Behold, I am going to save My people from the east and from the west,

and I will bring them home and they will live surround by Jerusalem; and they shall be My people, and I will be their God truthfully and and righteously.

Let your hands be strong, you who presently hear these words from the mouths of the prophets who, on the day that the foundation of the house of the Lord of hosts was laid, foretold that the temple will be rebuilt.

For prier there were no wages for man or animal; nor was there any peace or success for him who left or returned because of his enemy, for I set all men against each other.

But now I will not treat the survivors of this people as in the time gone by.

For there the seed will produce peace and prosperity; the vine will yield its fruit, and the ground will be plentiful, and the heavens will supply dew. And I will cause the survivors of this people to reap and possess all these things.

And as you have been a byword among the nations, Dear Judah (Southern Kingdom) and Israel (Northern Kingdom), so I will save you, that you may be a blessing. Do not fret; work hard.

Just as I planned to do harm to you when your ancestors provoked Me to anger, and I didn't slacken,

so I have again planned in these days to do good to Jerusalem and to the house of Judah. Fear not!

This is what you need to do: speak truthfully to each another; judge honestly and pronounce the judgment that brings peace to your gates.

And let none of you devise or even imagine evil in your heart against another, and do not love lying or half-truths; for all these things I hate,’ declares the Lord.”

Then the word of the Lord of armies spoke to me,

"So says the Lord of armies, ‘The fast of the fourth month [mourning the breaching of Jerusalem’s walls], the fast of the fifth month [mourning the temple’s destruction], the fast of the seventh month [mourning Gedaliah’s assassination], and the fast of the tenth month [mourning the siege of Jerusalem] will become times of joy and gladness and cheerful feasts for the house of Judah; so love truth and peace.

It will eventually happen that peoples and the inhabitants of many cities will come to Jerusalem.

These inhabitants will say to each other “Let's go immediately to ask the favor of the Lord and discover the Lord of armies. I'm going, too.”

So many peoples and powerful nations will come to seek the Lord of armies in Jerusalem and to ask the Lord for His favor.’

In those days ten representatives from all the nations will grasp the robe of a Jew, saying, “Let us be with you, for we have heard that God is with you.”

Young's Literal Translation (YLT)

1 And there is a word of Jehovah of Hosts, saying:

2 `Thus said Jehovah of Hosts: I have been zealous for Zion with great zeal, With great heat I have been zealous for her.

3 Thus said Jehovah: I have turned back unto Zion, And I have dwelt in the midst of Jerusalem, And Jerusalem hath been called `The city of truth,' And the mountain of Jehovah of Hosts, `The holy
mountain.'

4 Thus said Jehovah of Hosts: Again dwell do old men and old women, In broad places of Jerusalem, And each his staff in his hand, Because of abundance of days.

5 And broad places of the city are full of boys and girls, Playing in its broad places.

6 Thus said Jehovah of Hosts: Surely it is wonderful in the eyes of the remnant of this people in those days, Also in Mine eyes it is wonderful, An affirmation of Jehovah of Hosts.

7 Thus said Jehovah of Hosts: Lo, I am saving My people from the land of the rising, And from the land of the going in, of the sun,

8 And I have brought them in, They have dwelt in the midst of Jerusalem, And they have been to Me for a people, And I am to them for God, In truth and in righteousness.

9 Thus said Jehovah of Hosts: Let your hands be strong, Ye who are hearing in these days these words from the mouth of the prophets, That in the day the house of Jehovah of Hosts Hath been founded, the temple [is] to be built.

10 For, before those days there hath been no hiring of man, Yea, a hiring of beasts there is none; And to him who is going out, And to him who is coming in, There is no peace because of the adversary, And I send all men -- each against his neighbour.

11 And now, not as [in] the former days [am] I to the remnant of this people, An affirmation of Jehovah of Hosts.

12 Because of the sowing of peace, The vine doth give her fruit, And the earth doth give her increase, And the heavens do give their dew, And I have caused the remnant of this people To inherit all these.

13 And it hath come to pass, As ye have been a reviling among nations, O house of Judah, and house of Israel, So I save you, and ye have been a blessing, Do not fear, let your hands be strong.

14 For, thus said Jehovah of Hosts, As I did purpose to do evil to you, When your fathers made Me wroth, Said Jehovah of Hosts, and I did not repent,

15 So I have turned back, I have purposed, in these days, To do good with Jerusalem, And with the house of Judah -- fear not!

16 These [are] the things that ye do: Speak ye truth each with his neighbour, Truth and peaceful judgment judge in your gates,

17 And each the evil of his neighbour ye do not devise in your heart, And a false oath ye do not love, For all these [are] things that I have hated, An affirmation of Jehovah.'

18 And there is a word of Jehovah of Hosts unto me, saying:

19 `Thus said Jehovah of Hosts: The fast of the fourth, and the fast of the fifth, and the fast of the seventh, and the fast of the tenth [months], are to the house of Judah for joy and for rejoicing, and for pleasant appointed seasons, and the truth and the peace they have loved.

20 Thus said Jehovah of Hosts: Yet come do peoples, and inhabitants of many cities,

21 Yea, gone have inhabitants of one To another, saying: We go diligently, To appease the face of Jehovah, To seek Jehovah of Hosts -- I go, even I.

22 Yea, come in have many peoples, and mighty nations, To seek Jehovah of Hosts in Jerusalem, And to appease the face of Jehovah.

23 Thus said Jehovah of Hosts: In those days take hold do ten men of all languages of the nations, Yea, they have taken hold on the skirt of a man, a Jew, saying: We go with you, for we heard God [is] with you!
