The idea that we have to wrap knowledge in fantasies to sell to the credulous is the opposite of education and progress. It's a recipe for a totalitarian society based on manipulation and deception. "Those who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities," as Voltaire said. There were people who found positive things in Heaven's Gate and Jonestown. No thanks.

I think that the LDS were traumatized enough by Mountain Meadows that there is little incidence of organized violence among them since. I don't believe they were any more (or less) violent than many of their neighbors during their movements west. The damage that is done by the conformity in Mormon culture is more the result of bad investments than of Modern Danite plots.

I would say that any group that defends genocide is a death cult. Since that includes the Flood and the coming Apocalypse, I pronounce all fundamentalist and end times Christian groups "death cults".
You can't dismiss Southerton that easily, CCC. Faithful Mormons don't have any magic knowledge of DNA, sorry. They don't even know their own history, let alone that of the Earth they live on.
