That was one Protestant response to papal infallibility: Biblical inerrancy. Of course, only the Protestant preacher could interpret the Bible *correctly*. :wink:

Mark 14:1-72

It was 2 days before the Passover and the Festival of Unleavened Bread. The chief priests and the experts in Moses’ Teachings were scheming for some way to arrest Jesus and to murder Him.

However, they said, “We shouldn’t arrest him during the festival, or else the people will riot.”

Jesus was in Bethany at the home of Simon, a man who had once suffered from Hansen's disease. While Jesus was sitting there, a woman went to him. She had a bottle of very expensive perfume made from pure nard. She opened the bottle and poured the perfume on his head.

Some who were there became offended and said to each other, “Why was the perfume wasted like this?

This perfume could have been sold for a high price, and the money could have been given to the poor.” So they made some very snide remarks to her.

Jesus said, “Leave her alone! Why are you bothering her? She has done a beautiful thing for me.

You will always have the poor among you and can assist them whenever you want. But you will not always have Me here.

She did what she could. She came to pour perfume on my body before it's stuck in a tomb.

I can guarantee this fact: Wherever the Good News is spoken in the world, what she has done will also be mentioned in her memory.”

Judas Iscariot, one of the 12 apostles, went to the chief priests to betray Jesus.

They were pleased to hear what Judas had to say and promised to give him a reward. So he sought a chance to betray Jesus.

Killing the Passover lamb was traditional on the first day of the Festival of Unleavened Bread. The disciples asked Jesus, “Where would you like us to prepare the Passover meal for you?”

He sent two of his disciples and told them, “Go into the city. You will meet a man carrying a water jug. Follow him.

When he enters a house, tell the owner that the teacher asks, ‘Where is My room where I can eat the Passover meal with My disciples?’

He will take you upstairs and show you a spacious completely furnished room. Get everything ready for us there.”

The disciples left. They went into the city and found everything just as Jesus said. So they prepared the Passover.

When evening arrived, Jesus came with the 12 apostles.

While they ate at the table, Jesus said, “I tell you this truth: One of you is going to betray Me, one who is now eating with Me!”

Feeling hurt, they asked Him one by one, "Is it I?”

He said to them, “It’s one of you 12, someone dipping his hand into the bowl with Me.

The Son of Man is going to die as the Scriptures reveals. But how horrific it will be for that person who betrays the Son of Man! It would have been better for him had never existed.”

While they were eating, Jesus took bread and blessed it. He broke the bread, shared it among them, and said, “Take this. This represents my body.”

Then He took a cup, gave a prayer of thanksgiving, and passed cup to them. They all drank from it.

He said to them, “This represents my blood, the blood of the promise. It is spilled for many people.

I can guarantee this fact: I won’t drink this wine again until that day when I drink fresh wine in God’s kingdom.”

After they sang a hymn, they went to the Mount of Olives.

Then Jesus said to them, “All of you will abandon me. Scripture reveals, ‘I will clobber the shepherd, and the sheep will run away.’

“But after I Am returned to life, I will go to Galilee ahead of you.”

Peter said to Jesus, “Even if everyone else abandons you, I won’t.”

Jesus said to Peter, “I state this truth: Tonight, before a rooster crows twice, you will say 3 times that you don’t know me.”

But Peter reiterated strongly, “Even if I have to die with you, I will never say that I don’t know you.” All the other disciples said the same thing.

Then they came to a location called Gethsemane. He said to his disciples, “Stay here while I pray.”

He took Peter, James, and John with Him and began to feel distressed and anguished.

He said to them, “My anguish is so great that I feel as if I’m dying. Wait here, and stay awake.”

After walking a little farther, he fell to the ground and prayed that if it were possible He might not have to suffer what was ahead of him.

He said, “Abba! Father! You can do anything. Take this cup of suffering away from me. But let your will be done rather than mine.”

He went back and found them sleeping. He said to Peter, “Simon, are you sleeping? Couldn’t you stay awake for one hour?

Stay awake, and pray that you won’t be tempted. You want to do what’s right, but you’re weak.”

He went away again and prayed the same prayer as before.

He found them asleep because they couldn’t keep their eyes open. They didn’t even know what to tell him.

He returned a third time and said to them, “You might as well sleep now. It’s all over. The time has come for the Son of Man to be handed over to sinners.

Get up! Let’s go! The one who is betraying Me is near.”

Just then, while Jesus was still speaking, Judas, one of the 12 apostles, arrived. A crowd carrying swords and clubs accompanied him. They were from the chief priests, the experts in Moses’ Teachings, and the leaders of the people.

Now, the traitor had given them a signal. He said, “The one I kiss is the man you want. Arrest him, and guard him closely as you take him away.”

Then Judas quickly stepped up to Jesus and said, “Rabbi!” and kissed him.

Some men grabbed Jesus and arrested him.

One of those standing there pulled out his sword and sliced off the ear of the chief priest’s servant.

Jesus asked them, “Have you come out with swords and clubs to arrest Me as if I were a fugitive?

I used to teach in the temple courtyard daily. But you didn’t arrest Me then. But what the Scriptures reveals must come true.”

Then all the disciples abandoned Him and ran away.

A certain young man was following Jesus. He had nothing on but a linen sheet. They tried to arrest him,

but he left the linen sheet behind and ran away naked.

The men took Jesus to the chief priest. All the chief priests, the leaders, and the experts in Moses’ Teachings had gathered together.

Peter followed Jesus from a distance and went into the chief priest’s courtyard. He sat with the guards and warmed himself facing the glow of a fire.

The chief priests and the whole Jewish council were seeking some testimony against Jesus in order to execute him. But they couldn’t find any.

Many gave false testimony against him, but their statements did not agree.

Then some men stood up and gave false testimony against Him. They said,

“We heard him say, ‘I’ll tear down this temple made by humans, and in 3 days I’ll build another, one not made by human hands.’”

But their testimony did not agree even on this point.

So the chief priest stood up in the center and asked Jesus, “Don’t you have any thing to say to what these men testify against you?”

But Jesus remained silent.

The chief priest asked him again, “Are you the Messiah, the Son of the Blessed One?”

Jesus answered, “Yes, I am, and you will see the Son of Man in the honored position—the one next to God the Father on the heavenly throne. He will be arriving with the clouds of heaven.”

The chief priest ripped his robe in horror and said, “Why do we need any more witnesses?

You’ve heard Him dishonor God! What’s your verdict?”

All of them condemned Him to death.

Some of them began to spit on Him. They covered His face and punched Him with their fists. They said to him, “Prophesy!” Even the guards took and slapped Him.

Peter was in the courtyard. One of the chief priest’s female servants

observed Peter warming himself. She looked at him and said, “You, too, were with Jesus from Nazareth!”

But Peter denied it by saying, “I don’t know him, and I don’t understand what you’re talking about.”

He went to the entrance. Then a rooster crowed.

The servant saw him. Once again she said to those who were standing around, “This man is one of them!”

Peter again denied it.

After a little while the men standing there said to Peter again, “It’s obvious you’re one of them. You’re a Galilean!”

Then Peter began to curse and swear oaths, “I don’t know this man you’re talking about!”

Just then a rooster crowed a second time. Peter remembered that Jesus said to him, “Before a rooster crows twice, you will deny Me thrice.” Then Peter began to cry bitterly.

Young's Literal Translation (YLT)

1 And the passover and the unleavened food were after two days, and the chief priests and the scribes were seeking how, by guile, having taken hold of him, they might kill him;

2 and they said, `Not in the feast, lest there shall be a tumult of the people.'

3 And he, being in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper, at his reclining (at meat), there came a woman having an alabaster box of ointment, of spikenard, very precious, and having broken the alabaster box, did pour on his head;

4 and there were certain much displeased within themselves, and saying, `For what hath this waste of the ointment been made?

5 for this could have been sold for more than three hundred denaries, and given to the poor;' and they were murmuring at her.

6 And Jesus said, `Let her alone; why are ye giving her trouble? a good work she wrought on me;

7 for the poor always ye have with you, and whenever ye may will ye are able to do them good, but me ye have not always;

8 what she could she did, she anticipated to anoint my body for the embalming.

9 Verily I say to you, wherever this good news may be proclaimed in the whole world, what also this woman did shall be spoken of -- for a memorial of her.'

10 And Judas the Iscariot, one of the twelve, went away unto the chief priests that he might deliver him up to them,

11 and having heard, they were glad, and promised to give him money, and he was seeking how, conveniently, he might deliver him up.

12 And the first day of the unleavened food, when they were killing the passover, his disciples say to him, `Where wilt thou, [that,] having gone, we may prepare, that thou mayest eat the passover?'

13 And he sendeth forth two of his disciples, and saith to them, `Go ye away to the city, and there shall meet you a man bearing a pitcher of water, follow him;

14 and wherever he may go in, say ye to the master of the house -- The Teacher saith, Where is the guest-chamber, where the passover, with my disciples, I may eat?

15 and he will shew you a large upper room, furnished, prepared -- there make ready for us.'

16 And his disciples went forth, and came to the city, and found as he said to them, and they made ready the passover.

17 And evening having come, he cometh with the twelve,

18 and as they are reclining, and eating, Jesus said, `Verily I say to you -- one of you, who is eating with me -- shall deliver me up.'

19 And they began to be sorrowful, and to say to him, one by one, `Is it I?' and another, `Is it I?'

20 And he answering said to them, `One of the twelve who is dipping with me in the dish;

21 the Son of Man doth indeed go, as it hath been written concerning him, but wo to that man through whom the Son of Man is delivered up; good were it to him if that man had not been born.'

22 And as they are eating, Jesus having taken bread, having blessed, brake, and gave to them, and said, `Take, eat; this is my body.'

23 And having taken the cup, having given thanks, he gave to them, and they drank of it -- all;

24 and he said to them, `This is my blood of the new covenant, which for many is being poured out;

25 verily I say to you, that no more may I drink of the produce of the vine till that day when I may drink it new in the reign of God.'

26 And having sung an hymn, they went forth to the mount of the Olives,

27 and Jesus saith to them -- `All ye shall be stumbled at me this night, because it hath been written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered abroad,

28 but after my having risen I will go before you to Galilee.'

29 And Peter said to him, `And if all shall be stumbled, yet not I;'

30 And Jesus said to him, `Verily I say to thee, that to-day, this night, before a cock shall crow twice, thrice thou shalt deny me.'

31 And he spake the more vehemently, `If it may be necessary for me to die with thee -- I will in nowise deny thee;' and in like manner also said they all.

32 And they come to a spot, the name of which [is] Gethsemane, and he saith to his disciples, `Sit ye here till I may pray;'

33 and he taketh Peter, and James, and John with him, and began to be amazed, and to be very heavy,

34 and he saith to them, `Exceeding sorrowful is my soul -- to death; remain here, and watch.'

35 And having gone forward a little, he fell upon the earth, and was praying, that, if it be possible the hour may pass from him,

36 and he said, `Abba, Father; all things are possible to Thee; make this cup pass from me; but, not what I will, but what Thou.'

37 And he cometh, and findeth them sleeping, and saith to Peter, `Simon, thou dost sleep! thou wast not able to watch one hour!

38 Watch ye and pray, that ye may not enter into temptation; the spirit indeed is forward, but the flesh weak.'

39 And again having gone away, he prayed, the same word saying;

40 and having returned, he found them again sleeping, for their eyes were heavy, and they had not known what they might answer him.

41 And he cometh the third time, and saith to them, `Sleep on henceforth, and rest -- it is over; the hour did come; lo, the Son of Man is delivered up to the hands of the sinful;

42 rise, we may go, lo, he who is delivering me up hath come nigh.'

43 And immediately -- while he is yet speaking -- cometh near Judas, one of the twelve, and with him a great multitude, with swords and sticks, from the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders;

44 and he who is delivering him up had given a token to them, saying, `Whomsoever I shall kiss, he it is, lay hold on him, and lead him away safely,'

45 and having come, immediately, having gone near him, he saith, `Rabbi, Rabbi,' and kissed him.

46 And they laid on him their hands, and kept hold on him;

47 and a certain one of those standing by, having drawn the sword, struck the servant of the chief priest, and took off his ear.

48 And Jesus answering said to them, `As against a robber ye came out, with swords and sticks, to take me!

49 daily I was with you in the temple teaching, and ye did not lay hold on me -- but that the Writings may be fulfilled.'

50 And having left him they all fled;

51 and a certain young man was following him, having put a linen cloth about [his] naked body, and the young men lay hold on him,

52 and he, having left the linen cloth, did flee from them naked.

53 And they led away Jesus unto the chief priest, and come together to him do all the chief priests, and the elders, and the scribes;

54 and Peter afar off did follow him, to the inside of the hall of the chief priest, and he was sitting with the officers, and warming himself near the fire.

55 And the chief priests and all the sanhedrim were seeking against Jesus testimony -- to put him to death, and they were not finding,

56 for many were bearing false testimony against him, and their testimonies were not alike.

57 And certain having risen up, were bearing false testimony against him, saying --

58 `We heard him saying -- I will throw down this sanctuary made with hands, and by three days, another made without hands I will build;'

59 and neither so was their testimony alike.

60 And the chief priest, having risen up in the midst, questioned Jesus, saying, `Thou dost not answer anything! what do these testify against thee?'

61 and he was keeping silent, and did not answer anything. Again the chief priest was questioning him, and saith to him, `Art thou the Christ -- the Son of the Blessed?'

62 and Jesus said, `I am; and ye shall see the Son of Man sitting on the right hand of the power, and coming with the clouds, of the heaven.'

63 And the chief priest, having rent his garments, saith, `What need have we yet of witnesses?

64 Ye heard the evil speaking, what appeareth to you?' and they all condemned him to be worthy of death,

65 and certain began to spit on him, and to cover his face, and to buffet him, and to say to him, `Prophesy;' and the officers were striking him with their palms.

66 And Peter being in the hall beneath, there doth come one of the maids of the chief priest,

67 and having seen Peter warming himself, having looked on him, she said, `And thou wast with Jesus of Nazareth!'

68 and he denied, saying, `I have not known [him], neither do I understand what thou sayest;' and he went forth without to the porch, and a cock crew.

69 And the maid having seen him again, began to say to those standing near -- `This is of them;'

70 and he was again denying. And after a little again, those standing near said to Peter, `Truly thou art of them, for thou also art a Galilean, and thy speech is alike;'

71 and he began to anathematize, and to swear -- `I have not known this man of whom ye speak;'

72 and a second time a cock crew, and Peter remembered the saying that Jesus said to him -- `Before a cock crow twice, thou mayest deny me thrice;' and having thought thereon -- he was weeping.

Mark 15:1-47

First thing at dawn, the chief priests—with the elders, legal experts, and the whole Sanhedrin - formulated a plan. They bound Jesus, took him away, and gave Him over to Pilate.

Pilate questioned Jesus, “Are you the king of the Jews?”

Jesus replied, “That’s what you say.”

The chief priests were accusing him of many things.

Pilate asked him again, “Aren’t you going to respond? What about all these accusations?”

But Jesus gave no more answers, so that Pilate marveled.

During the festival, Pilate released one prisoner to them, whomever they requested.

A man named Barabbas was locked up with the rebels who had committed murder during a riot.

The crowd pushed forward and asked Pilate to release someone, as he regularly did.

Pilate answered them, “Do you want me to release to you the king of the Jews?”

He realized that the chief priests had handed Jesus over due to jealousy.

But the chief priests stirred up the crowd to have Pilate release Barabbas to them instead.

Pilate replied, “Then what do you want me to do with the one you call king of the Jews?”

They shouted back, “Crucify him!”

Pilate said to them, “Why? What has he done wrong?”

They screamed even louder, “Crucify him!”

Pilate wanted to placate the crowd, so he released Barabbas to them. He had Jesus whipped, then handed Him over to be crucified.

The soldiers led Jesus away into the courtyard of the palace known as the governor’s headquarters, and they called together the whole company of soldiers. They costumed Him in a purple robe and twisted together a crown of thorns and pushed it on him.

They mocked him, “Hey! King of the Jews!”

Again and again, they struck his head with a stick. They spit on him and knelt and bowed to Him.

When they finished mocking him, they stripped him of the purple robe and put his own clothes back on him. Then they led him out to be crucified.

Simon, a man from Cyrene (father of Alexander and Rufus) was coming in from the countryside. They forced him to carry Jesus' cross.

They brought Jesus to the place called Golgotha, which means Skull Place.

They tried to give him wine mixed with myrrh, but Jesus refused it.

They crucified him. They sorted his clothes, drawing lots for them to determine who would take what.

It was nine in the morning when they crucified him.

The notice of the formal charge against him was written, “The king of the Jews.”

They crucified two outlaws along with Jesus --- one on each side.

People walking by insulted Him, wagging their heads and saying, “Whoa! So you were going to destroy the temple and rebuild it in 3 days, were you?

Save yourself and come off that cross!”

In the same way, the chief priests were making fun of him among themselves, together with the legal experts. “He saved others,” they said, “but he can’t save himself.

Let the Christ, the king of Israel, come off the cross. Then we’ll see and believe.” Even those being crucified along with Jesus insulted him.

From noon until three in the afternoon the whole earth was dark.

At three, Jesus cried out with a loud shout, “Eloi, eloi, lama sabachthani,” which means, “My God, My God, why have You departed from Me?”

After hearing Jesus, some standing there said, “Look! He’s calling Elijah!”

Someone ran, soaked a sponge with sour wine, and put it on a pole. He offered it to Jesus to drink, saying, “Let’s see if Elijah will come to remove Him.”

But Jesus let out a loud cry and let go of His Spirit.

The curtain of the sanctuary was torn in two from top to bottom.

When the centurion, who stood facing Jesus, saw how He died, he said, “This man was most certainly God’s Son.”

Some women were observing from a distance, including Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of James (the younger one) and Joses, and Salome.

When Jesus was in Galilee, these women had followed and supported Him, along with many other women who had come to Jerusalem with him.

Since it was late in the afternoon on Preparation Day, just prior to the Sabbath,

Joseph from Arimathea dared to approach Pilate and ask for Jesus’ body. (Joseph was a prominent council member who also eagerly anticipated the arrival of God’s kingdom.)

Pilate wondered if Jesus was already dead. He called the centurion and asked him whether Jesus had already died.

When Pilate learned from the centurion that Jesus was dead, Pilate gave the dead body to Joseph.

He bought a linen cloth, took Jesus down from the cross, wrapped him it, and laid him in a tomb that had been carved out of rock. He rolled a stone against the entrance to the tomb.

Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses saw where he was entombed.

Young's Literal Translation (YLT)

1 And immediately, in the morning, the chief priests having made a consultation, with the elders, and scribes, and the whole sanhedrim, having bound Jesus, did lead away, and delivered [him] to Pilate;

2 and Pilate questioned him, `Art thou the king of the Jews?' and he answering said to him, `Thou dost say [it].'

3 And the chief priests were accusing him of many things, [but he answered nothing.]

4 And Pilate again questioned him, saying, `Thou dost not answer anything! lo, how many things they do testify against thee!'

5 and Jesus did no more answer anything, so that Pilate wondered.

6 And at every feast he was releasing to them one prisoner, whomsoever they were asking;

7 and there was [one] named Barabbas, bound with those making insurrection with him, who had in the insurrection committed murder.

8 And the multitude having cried out, began to ask for themselves as he was always doing to them,

9 and Pilate answered them, saying, `Will ye [that] I shall release to you the king of the Jews?'

10 for he knew that because of envy the chief priests had delivered him up;

11 and the chief priests did move the multitude, that he might rather release Barabbas to them.

12 And Pilate answering, again said to them, `What, then, will ye [that] I shall do to him whom ye call king of the Jews?'

13 and they again cried out, `Crucify him.'

14 And Pilate said to them, `Why -- what evil did he?' and they cried out the more vehemently, `Crucify him;'

15 and Pilate, wishing to content the multitude, released to them Barabbas, and delivered up Jesus -- having scourged [him] -- that he might be crucified.

16 And the soldiers led him away into the hall, which is Praetorium, and call together the whole band,

17 and clothe him with purple, and having plaited a crown of thorns, they put [it] on him,

18 and began to salute him, `Hail, King of the Jews.'

19 And they were smiting him on the head with a reed, and were spitting on him, and having bent the knee, were bowing to him,

20 and when they [had] mocked him, they took the purple from off him, and clothed him in his own garments, and they led him forth, that they may crucify him.

21 And they impress a certain one passing by -- Simon, a Cyrenian, coming from the field, the father of Alexander and Rufus -- that he may bear his cross,

22 and they bring him to the place Golgotha, which is, being interpreted, `Place of a skull;'

23 and they were giving him to drink wine mingled with myrrh, and he did not receive.

24 And having crucified him, they were dividing his garments, casting a lot upon them, what each may take;

25 and it was the third hour, and they crucified him;

26 and the inscription of his accusation was written above -- `The King of the Jews.'

27 And with him they crucify two robbers, one on the right hand, and one on his left,

28 and the Writing was fulfilled that is saying, `And with lawless ones he was numbered.'

29 And those passing by were speaking evil of him, shaking their heads, and saying, `Ah, the thrower down of the sanctuary, and in three days the builder!

30 save thyself, and come down from the cross!'

31 And in like manner also the chief priests, mocking with one another, with the scribes, said, `Others he saved; himself he is not able to save.

32 The Christ! the king of Israel -- let him come down now from the cross, that we may see and believe;' and those crucified with him were reproaching him.

33 And the sixth hour having come, darkness came over the whole land till the ninth hour,

34 and at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a great voice, saying, `Eloi, Eloi, lamma sabachthani?' which is, being interpreted, `My God, my God, why didst Thou forsake me?'

35 And certain of those standing by, having heard, said, `Lo, Elijah he doth call;'

36 and one having run, and having filled a spunge with vinegar, having put [it] also on a reed, was giving him to drink, saying, `Let alone, let us see if Elijah doth come to take him down.'

37 And Jesus having uttered a loud cry, yielded the spirit,

38 and the veil of the sanctuary was rent in two, from top to bottom,

39 and the centurion who was standing over-against him, having seen that, having so cried out, he yielded the spirit, said, `Truly this man was Son of God.'

40 And there were also women afar off beholding, among whom was also Mary the Magdalene, and Mary of James the less, and of Joses, and Salome,

41 (who also, when he was in Galilee, were following him, and were ministering to him,) and many other women who came up with him to Jerusalem.

42 And now evening having come, seeing it was the preparation, that is, the fore-sabbath,

43 Joseph of Arimathea, an honourable counsellor, who also himself was waiting for the reign of God, came, boldly entered in unto Pilate, and asked the body of Jesus.

44 And Pilate wondered if he were already dead, and having called near the centurion, did question him if he were long dead,

45 and having known [it] from the centurion, he granted the body to Joseph.

46 And he, having brought fine linen, and having taken him down, wrapped him in the linen, and laid him in a sepulchre that had been hewn out of a rock, and he rolled a stone unto the door of the
sepulchre,

47 and Mary the Magdalene, and Mary of Joses, were beholding where he is laid.

Mark 16:1-20

The day of rest had ended, Mary from Magdala, Mary (the mother of James), and Salome purchased spices to go and anoint Jesus.

They were going to the tomb very early Sunday when the sun had just come up.

They said to each other, “Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance to the tomb?”

When they looked up, they saw that the stone had had already been rolled away. It was a very large stone.

As they went into the tomb, they witnessed a young man. He was dressed in a white robe and sat on the right side. They were totally beside themselves.

The young man said to them, “Don’t panic! You’re looking for Jesus from Nazareth, who was crucified. He has been returned to life. He’s not here. Look at the place where they laid Him.

Go and tell his disciples and Peter that he’s going ahead of them to Galilee. There they will see Him, just as He told them.”

They went out of the tomb and ran away. Shock and trembling had overwhelmed them. They didn’t say a thing to anyone, because they were afraid.

After Jesus came back to life early on Sunday, He appeared first to Mary from Magdala, from whom he had driven away 7 demons.

She went and told His friends, who were grieving and crying.

They didn’t believe her when they heard that He was living and that she had seen Him.

Later Jesus appeared to 2 disciples as they were walking to their home in the country. He did not look as He usually did.

They went back and told the others, who wouldn't believe them either.

Still later Jesus appeared to the 11 apostles while they were eating. He put them to shame for their unbelief and because they were too stubborn to believe those who had witnessed Him alive.

Then Jesus said to them, “So wherever you go in the world, tell everyone the Good News.

Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe is condemned.

“These are the miraculous signs that will accompany believers: They will use the power and authority of my name to cast demons out of people. They will speak new languages.

They will pick up snakes, and if they happen to drink any deadly poison, it will not bother them. They will place their hands on the sick and cure them.”

After talking with the apostles, the Lord was taken to heaven, where he received the honored position—the one next to God the Father on the throne.

The disciples preached the News everywhere. The Lord worked with them. He confirmed the Word by the miraculous signs that accompanied it.

Young's Literal Translation (YLT)
1 And the sabbath having past, Mary the Magdalene, and Mary of James, and Salome, bought spices, that having come, they may anoint him,

2 and early in the morning of the first of the sabbaths, they come unto the sepulchre, at the rising of the sun,

3 and they said among themselves, `Who shall roll away for us the stone out of the door of the sepulchre?'

4 And having looked, they see that the stone hath been rolled away -- for it was very great,

5 and having entered into the sepulchre, they saw a young man sitting on the right hand, arrayed in a long white robe, and they were amazed.

6 And he saith to them, `Be not amazed, ye seek Jesus the Nazarene, the crucified: he did rise -- he is not here; lo, the place where they laid him!

7 and go, say to his disciples, and Peter, that he doth go before you to Galilee; there ye shall see him, as he said to you.'

8 And, having come forth quickly, they fled from the sepulchre, and trembling and amazement had seized them, and to no one said they anything, for they were afraid.

9 And he, having risen in the morning of the first of the sabbaths, did appear first to Mary the Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven demons;

10 she having gone, told those who had been with him, mourning and weeping;

11 and they, having heard that he is alive, and was seen by her, did not believe.

12 And after these things, to two of them, as they are going into a field, walking, he was manifested in another form,

13 and they having gone, told to the rest; not even them did they believe.

14 Afterwards, as they are reclining (at meat), he was manifested to the eleven, and did reproach their unbelief and stiffness of heart, because they believed not those having seen him being raised;

15 and he said to them, `Having gone to all the world, proclaim the good news to all the creation;

16 he who hath believed, and hath been baptized, shall be saved; and he who hath not believed, shall be condemned.

17 `And signs shall accompany those believing these things; in my name demons they shall cast out; with new tongues they shall speak;

18 serpents they shall take up; and if any deadly thing they may drink, it shall not hurt them; on the ailing they shall lay hands, and they shall be well.'

19 The Lord, then, indeed, after speaking to them, was received up to the heaven, and sat on the right hand of God;

20 and they, having gone forth, did preach everywhere, the Lord working with [them], and confirming the word, through the signs following. Amen.

A Kentucky pastor who starred in a reality show about snake-handling in church has died -- of a snakebite.
Jamie Coots died Saturday evening after refusing to be treated, Middlesboro police said.

On "Snake Salvation," the ardent Pentecostal believer said that he believed that a passage in the Bible suggests poisonous snakebites will not harm believers as long as they are anointed by God. The practice is illegal in most states, but still goes on, primarily in the rural South.

Coots was a third-generation "serpent handler" and aspired to one day pass the practice and his church, Full Gospel Tabernacle in Jesus Name, on to his adult son, Little Cody.
"God" is the original deus ex machina. --Maksutov
