Re: Bible verse by verse
Luke 9:1-63
Gathering together the 12, Jesus gave them power and authority to expel all the demons and to cure diseases;
and he sent them out to proclaim the Kingdom of God and to heal.
He said to them, “Take nothing for your trip — neither a walking stick nor a pack, neither bread nor money; and don’t have two shirts.
Whatever house you enter, stay there and head out from there.
Wherever they don’t accept you, shake the dust from your feet when you leave that town as a warning to them.”
They set out and went through village after village, healing and announcing the Good News everywhere.
Herod the district ruler heard about all that was happening and was perplexed, because it was said by some that John the Immerser had been raised from the dead,
by others that Elijah had appeared, and by others that one of the prophets of long ago had returned to life.
Herod said, “I had John beheaded, so who is this about whom I keep hearing such things?” And he began attempting to see him.
On their return, the emissaries detailed to Jesus what they had done. Then, taking them with Him, Jesus withdrew by Himself to a town called Bethsaida.
But the crowds discovered this and followed Him. Welcoming them, He went on to speak to them concerning the Kingdom of God and to heal those who needed healing.
The day began to end. The 12 came to Him and said, “Send the crowd away, so that they can go and get lodging and food in the towns and farms around about, because we are in the middle of nowhere.”
But Jesus said to them, “Give them something to eat, yourselves!” They said, “We have no more than 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish — unless we ourselves are supposed to go and buy food for this crowd!”
For there were about five thousand men. He said to his disciples, “Make them sit down in groups of around 50 each.”
They did what He told them and had them all sit down.
Then Jesus took the 5 loaves and the 2 fish and, looking heavenward, made a blessing, broke the loaves and began giving them to the disciples to distribute among the crowd.
Everyone ate as much as he wanted; and they collected what was left over, 12 baskets full of scraps.
Once when Jesus was praying privately, His disciples were with Him; and He asked them, “Who are the crowds saying I am?”
They answered, “John the Immerser; but others say Elijah, and others that some ancient prophet has risen.”
“But you,” He said to them, “who do you say I Am?” Peter answered, “The God's Messiah!”
However, He, warning them, ordered them to tell no one,
adding, “The Son of Man must endure much suffering and be rejected by the elders, the head priests and the teachers of the Law; and He must be killed; but on the 3rd day, He has to be raised to life.”
Then to everyone He said, “If anyone wants to come after me, let him say ‘No’ to himself, take up his cross daily and keep following me.
For whoever tries to save his own life will ruin it, but whoever destroys his life on my account will save it.
What will it benefit a person if he gains the entire world but forfeits his life?
For if someone is ashamed of Me and of what I say, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when he comes in his glory and that of the Father and of the holy angels.
I tell you factually, there are some people standing here who will not experience death until they see God's kingdom.”
About a week later, having said these things, Jesus selected Peter, John and James to go with Him up to the hill country to pray.
As he was praying, the appearance of His face changed; and his clothing became gleaming white.
Suddenly there were 2 men conversing with Him — Moses and Elijah!
They appeared in glorious splendor and spoke of His exodus, which Jesus was soon to accomplish in Jerusalem.
Peter and those with him had been fast asleep; but on becoming fully awake, they saw his glory and the two men standing with him.
As the men were departing Jesus, Peter said to Him, not knowing what to say, “It’s good that we’re here, Teacher! Let’s put up three huts — one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.”
As Peter spoke, a cloud came and enveloped them. They were frightened as they entered the cloud;
and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is My Son, whom I have chosen. Pay attention to him!”
When the voice spoke, Jesus was alone once more. They kept quiet — at that time they told no one anything of what they had seen.
The following day, as they were coming down out of the hill country, a large crowd met him.
Suddenly a man in the crowd shouted, “Rabbi! Look at my son, I beg you, because he’s my only child!
What occurs: a spirit seizes him, and suddenly it lets out a shriek and throws him into convulsions with foaming at the mouth; and only with difficulty will it leave him. It’s destroying him!
I asked your disciples to drive the spirit away, but they couldn’t.”
“Perverted people, without any trust!” Jesus answered, “How long do I have to be among you and put up with you? Bring your son here.”
Even as the boy was coming, the demon tossed him to the ground and drew him into a fit. But Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, healed the boy and entrusted him to his father.
All were struck with amazement at God's greatness. While they were all marveling at everything Jesus did, He said to his Disciples,
“Listen very carefully to what I’m going to say. The Son of Man is about to be betrayed into the hands of men.”
But they didn’t understand what He meant by this. It had been concealed from them so that they would not grasp its meaning, and they were afraid to ask him about it.
An argument arose among the disciples as to which of them might be the greatest.
But Jesus, knowing the feelings of their hearts, took a child, stood him beside himself,
and said to them, “Whoever welcomes this child in My name welcomes Me, and whoever welcomes Me welcomes the One who sent Me. In other words, the one who is insignificant among you all — this is the one who is great.”
John responded, “Rabbi, we saw someone expelling demons in your name; and we stopped him because he doesn’t follow you with us.”
Jesus said to him, “Don’t prevent such people, because whoever isn’t against you is with you.”
As the time was coming for Jesus to be lifted high into heaven, He made a decision to set out for Jerusalem. \
He sent messengers ahead of him, who went and entered a village in Samaria to make preparations for him.
However, the people there would not let Jesus remain, because his destination was Jerusalem.
When the disciples James and John saw this, they said, “Sir, do you want us to call down fire from heaven to destroy them?"
But Jesus turned and rebuked them.
And they proceeded to another village.
As they were traveling along the road, a man said to Jesus, “I will follow you wherever you go.”
Jesus answered him, “The foxes have holes, and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place of his own.”
To another he said, “Follow me!” but the man replied, “Sir, first let me go away and bury my father.”
Jesus said, “Let the dead bury their own; you, go and proclaim the Kingdom of God!”
Yet another said, “I will follow you, sir, but first let me say good-by to the folks at home.”
To him Jesus replied, “No one who puts his hand to the plow and keeps looking over his shoulder is fit to serve in the Kingdom of God.

Re: Bible verse by verse
Luke 10:1-42
Afterwards, the Lord commissioned seventy others and sent them ahead in pairs to every city and place He was about to travel.
He told them, “The harvest is bigger than you can imagine, but there are few helpers. Therefore, plead with the Lord of the harvest to send out additional workers for His harvesting.
Go, but be warned, that I’m sending you out as lambs among wolves.
Carry no wallet, no bag, and no sandals. Don’t even chat with anyone you meet on the road.
Whenever you enter a house, first say, ‘May peace be with this house.’
If anyone there shares God’s peace, then your peace will rest on that person. If not, your blessing will return to you.
Remain in this house, eating and drinking whatever they serve you, for workers deserve their pay. Don’t relocate from house to house.
Whenever you enter a city and its people welcome you, eat what they serve you.
Heal the sick who are there, and say to them, ‘God’s kingdom has come upon you.’
Whenever you enter a city and the people don’t welcome you, go out into the streets and say,
‘As a complaint against you, we brush off the dust of your city that has clung to our feet. However understand this, God’s kingdom came close to you.’
I assure you that Sodom will be better off on Judgment Day than such a city.
“How terrible it will be for you, Chorazin and Bethsaida. If the miracles performed among you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have changed their hearts and lives long ago. They would have sat around in funeral clothes and ashes.
But Tyre and Sidon will be better off at the judgment than you.
And you, Capernaum, will you be honored by reaching heaven? No, you will be cast down among the dead.
Whoever listens to you listens to Me. Whoever rejects you rejects Me. Whoever rejects Me rejects the One who sent Me.”
The seventy returned joyously, saying, “Lord, even the demons submit themselves to us by your name.”
Jesus replied, “I saw Satan fall from heaven like lightning.
Look, I have given you authority to crush snakes and scorpions underfoot. I have given you authority over all the power of the enemy. Nothing will harm you.
Nevertheless, don’t rejoice because the spirits submit to you. Rejoice rather that your names are inscribed in heaven.”
At that very moment, Jesus overflowed with joy from the Holy Spirit and said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you’ve hidden these things from the wise and intellectual and revealed them to babies. Father actually this makes you happy.
My Father has handed all things over to me. No one knows who the Son is except the Father, or who the Father is except the Son and anyone to whom the Son wants to reveal Him.”
Turning to the disciples, He said privately, “Happy are the eyes that see what you see.
I assure you that many prophets and kings desired to observe what you see and listen to what you hear, but they didn’t.”
A legal expert stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher,” he said, “what must I do to gain eternal life?”
Jesus replied, “What is written in the Law? How do you interpret it?”
He responded, “You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your being, with all your power, and with all your thought, and love your neighbor as yourself.”
Jesus said to him, “You have answered correctly. Do this and you will live.”
But the legal expert wanted to prove that he was right, so he said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”
Jesus replied, “A man traveled down from Jerusalem to Jericho. He encountered thieves, who stripped him naked, beat him up, and left him near death.
Now it just so happened that a priest was also headed down the same road. When he saw the injured man, he crossed over to the other side of the road and continued along.
And also, a Levite happened that spot, saw the injured man, and crossed over to the other side of the road and continued along.
A Samaritan, who was on a journey, came upon where the man was. But when he saw him, he was moved with compassion.
The Samaritan went to him and bandaged his wounds, tending them with oil and wine. Then he placed the wounded man on his own donkey, took him to an inn, and nursed him.
The following day, he took two full days’ worth of wages and gave them to the innkeeper. He said, ‘Care for him, and when I return, I will pay you back for any additional costs.’
What do you think? Which one of these three was a neighbor to the man who encountered thieves?”
Then the legal expert said, “The one who demonstrated mercy toward him.” Jesus told him, “Go and do the same.”
While Jesus and his disciples were traveling, Jesus entered a village where a woman named Martha welcomed Him as a guest.
She had a sister named Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet and listened to His message.
By contrast, Martha was preoccupied with getting everything ready for their meal. So Martha came to him and said, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to prepare the table alone? Tell her to help me.”
The Lord answered, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and distracted by many things.
One thing is important. Mary has chosen what is best. It won’t be taken away from her.”
Young's Literal Translation (YLT)
1 And after these things, the Lord did appoint also other seventy, and sent them by twos before his face, to every city and place whither he himself was about to come,
2 then said he unto them, `The harvest indeed [is] abundant, but the workmen few; beseech ye then the Lord of the harvest, that He may put forth workmen to His harvest.
3 `Go away; lo, I send you forth as lambs in the midst of wolves;
4 carry no bag, no scrip, nor sandals; and salute no one on the way;
5 and into whatever house ye do enter, first say, Peace to this house;
6 and if indeed there may be there the son of peace, rest on it shall your peace; and if not so, upon you it shall turn back.
7 `And in that house remain, eating and drinking the things they have, for worthy [is] the workman of his hire; go not from house to house,
8 and into whatever city ye enter, and they may receive you, eat the things set before you,
9 and heal the ailing in it, and say to them, The reign of God hath come nigh to you.
10 `And into whatever city ye do enter, and they may not receive you, having gone forth to its broad places, say,
11 And the dust that hath cleaved to us, from your city, we do wipe off against you, but this know ye, that the reign of God hath come nigh to you;
12 and I say to you, that for Sodom in that day it shall be more tolerable than for that city.
13 `Wo to thee, Chorazin; wo to thee, Bethsaida; for if in Tyre and Sidon had been done the mighty works that were done in you, long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes, they had reformed;
14 but for Tyre and Sidon it shall be more tolerable in the judgment than for you.
15 `And thou, Capernaum, which unto the heaven wast exalted, unto hades thou shalt be brought down.
16 `He who is hearing you, doth hear me; and he who is putting you away, doth put me away; and he who is putting me away, doth put away Him who sent me.'
17 And the seventy turned back with joy, saying, `Sir, and the demons are being subjected to us in thy name;'
18 and he said to them, `I was beholding the Adversary, as lightning from the heaven having fallen;
19 lo, I give to you the authority to tread upon serpents and scorpions, and on all the power of the enemy, and nothing by any means shall hurt you;
20 but, in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subjected to you, but rejoice rather that your names were written in the heavens.'
21 In that hour was Jesus glad in the Spirit, and said, `I do confess to thee, Father, Lord of the heaven and of the earth, that Thou didst hide these things from wise men and understanding, and didst reveal them to babes; yes, Father, because so it became good pleasure before Thee.
22 `All things were delivered up to me by my Father, and no one doth know who the Son is, except the Father, and who the Father is, except the Son, and he to whom the Son may wish to reveal [Him].'
23 And having turned unto the disciples, he said, by themselves, `Happy the eyes that are perceiving what ye perceive;
24 for I say to you, that many prophets and kings did wish to see what ye perceive, and did not see, and to hear what ye hear, and did not hear.'
25 And lo, a certain lawyer stood up, trying him, and saying, `Teacher, what having done, life age-during shall I inherit?'
26 And he said unto him, `In the law what hath been written? how dost thou read?'
27 And he answering said, `Thou shalt love the Lord thy God out of all thy heart, and out of all thy soul, and out of all thy strength, and out of all thy understanding, and thy neighbour as thyself.'
28 And he said to him, `Rightly thou didst answer; this do, and thou shalt live.'
29 And he, willing to declare himself righteous, said unto Jesus, `And who is my neighbour?'
30 and Jesus having taken up [the word], said, `A certain man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among robbers, and having stripped him and inflicted blows, they went away, leaving [him] half dead.
31 `And by a coincidence a certain priest was going down in that way, and having seen him, he passed over on the opposite side;
32 and in like manner also, a Levite, having been about the place, having come and seen, passed over on the opposite side.
33 `But a certain Samaritan, journeying, came along him, and having seen him, he was moved with compassion,
34 and having come near, he bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine, and having lifted him up on his own beast, he brought him to an inn, and was careful of him;
35 and on the morrow, going forth, taking out two denaries, he gave to the innkeeper, and said to him, Be careful of him, and whatever thou mayest spend more, I, in my coming again, will give back to thee.
36 `Who, then, of these three, seemeth to thee to have become neighbour of him who fell among the robbers?'
37 and he said, `He who did the kindness with him,' then Jesus said to him, `Be going on, and thou be doing in like manner.'
38 And it came to pass, in their going on, that he entered into a certain village, and a certain woman, by name Martha, did receive him into her house,
39 and she had also a sister, called Mary, who also, having seated herself beside the feet of Jesus, was hearing the word,
40 and Martha was distracted about much serving, and having stood by him, she said, `Sir, dost thou not care that my sister left me alone to serve? say then to her, that she may partake along with me.'
41 And Jesus answering said to her, `Martha, Martha, thou art anxious and disquieted about many things,
42 but of one thing there is need, and Mary the good part did choose, that shall not be taken away from her.'

And so the sexual term 'threesome' was born...

Where do you think Joseph Smith got his ideas? It didn't all come out of his hat and his pants.

Out of their imaginations. Just like the rest of scriptures. The apocrypha aren't that different in how they got here from what Smith did. And there was disagreement about what to leave in and out. There are still differences, but it's about people arguing and nothing divine.

Re: Bible verse by verse
Luke 11:1-54
After Jesus was praying in a certain place, one of His disciples said to Him, “Lord, teach us to pray just as John like taught his disciples.”
Jesus said to them, “When you pray, say: ‘Dear Heavenly Father, Holy is Your name. Your kingdom arrive.
‘Give us each day our what we need to eat.
‘And forgive us our sins, For we ourselves also forgive everyone who offend us. And lead us not towards being tempted but rescue us from evil.’”
Then Jesus said to them, “Suppose one of you has a friend, and visits him at midnight and says, ‘Yo, lend me 3 loaves;
for a friend of mine who is on a journey has just stopped by, and I have nothing to feed him’;
and from inside he answers, ‘Do not bother me; the door has already locked and my children and I are asleep; I cannot get up and give you anything.’
I tell you, even though he will not get up and give him anything just because he is his friend, but because of his persistence and boldness he will get up and give him whatever is needed.
“So I tell you, ask and keep asking, and it will be given to you; seek and keep seeking, and you will discover; knock and keep knocking, and the door will open to you.
For everyone who is persistent, receives; and discovers; and to him who continues knocking persistently, the door will be opened.
What dad among you, if his son asks for a fish, will hand him a snake instead of a fish?
Or if your son asks for an egg, hands him a scorpion?
If you, then, being naturally sinful, know how to provide good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask and continue to ask Him!”
Upon some other time Jesus was casting out a demon, and it was controlling a man so as to make him mute; when the demon had departed, the mute man spoke. And the crowds were shocked.
But some of them said, “He drives out demons by Beelzebul's power --- the ruler of the demons.”
Others, trying to test Him, were demanding from Him a heavenly sign.
But He, well aware of their thoughts and purpose, said to them, “Every kingdom fighting against itself is doomed to destruction; and a house divided against itself falls.
If Satan fights against himself, how will his kingdom stand and continue to exist? For you are saying that I drive out demons by through Beelzebul.
Now if I drive out the demons through Beelzebul, by whom do your own exorcists drive them out? For this reason they will judge you.
But if I drive out the demons by the finger of God, then the kingdom of God has already come upon you.
When the mighty man, fully armed, guards his own house, his belongings are undisturbed and secure.
But when someone stronger than he attacks and overpowers him, he robs him of all his armor on which he had relied and divides the spoil.
He who is not believing in Me as Lord and Savior is against Me (there are no fence sitters); and he who does not assist in My ministry, scatters.
“When the unclean spirit departs a person, it roams through waterless places in search of rest; and not finding any, it says, ‘I will go back to my former abode.’
And when it comes, it finds the place swept and put in order.
Then it goes and brings 7 additional demons more disgusting than itself, and they go in and live there; and the final state of that person becomes worse than ever.”
Now while Jesus was saying these things, one of the women in the crowd raised her voice and said to Him, “Blessed is the womb that gave birth to You and the breasts at which You nursed!”
But He said, “On the contrary, favored by God are those who hear the word of God and continually observe it.”
Now as the crowds were getting larger, He began to say, “This present generation is a wicked generation; it seeks a miracle, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah.
For just as Jonah became a sign to the people of Nineveh, so will the Son of Man also be a sign to this generation.
The Queen of Sheba will rise up in the judgment with the men of this generation and condemn them, because she came from the ends of the earth to listen to the wisdom of Solomon, and look, something greater than Solomon exists NOW!
The men of Nineveh will stand up as witnesses at the judgment with this generation and condemn it, because they repented at Jonah's preaching, and look, something greater than Jonah exists NOW!
“No one lights a lamp and then puts it in a cellar nor under a basket, but it is lifted high on a lampstand, so that those who come in may see the light.
The eye is the lamp of your body. When your eye is focused on God, your whole body also is benefiting from God’s precepts. But when it spiritually dark, your body also is full of darkness (devoid of God’s word).
Be careful that the light in you is not darkness.
So if your whole body is illuminated, with no dark place, it will be entirely brilliant, as when the lamp gives you light with its radiance.”
Now after Jesus had spoken, a Pharisee asked Him to have lunch with him. He went inside and reclined at the table without ceremonially washing His hands.
The Pharisee noticed this and was surprised that Jesus did not first ceremonially wash before the meal.
But the Lord said to him, “Now you Pharisees clean the outside of the cup and plate traditionally; but inside you are full of greed and wickedness.
You foolish ones! Did not He who made the outside make the inside also?
But give that which is within as charity [that is, acts of mercy and compassion, not as a public display, but as an expression of your faithfulness to God], and then indeed all things are clean for you.
“Judgment is coming) to you Pharisees, because your self-righteousness. You tithe mint and rue and every little garden herb, and yet disregard and neglect justice and the love of God; but these are the things you should have done, without neglecting the others.
Judgement to you Pharisees, because you love the best seats in the synagogues and to be respectfully greeted in the market places.
Judgement to you! For you are like unmarked graves, and people walk over them without being aware of it and are ceremonially unclean.”
An expert in the Mosaic Law answered Jesus, “Teacher, by saying this, You insult us too!”
But He said, “Judgement upon you lawyers as well, because you weigh men down with unreasonable requirements which are hard to bear, and you yourselves will not even lift the burdens with one of your fingers (to lighten the load).
Judgement upon you! For you repair or build tombs for the prophets, and it was your fathers who murdered them.
So you are witnesses and approve the deeds of your fathers, because they killed them, and you maintain and build their tombs.
For this reason also the wisdom of God said, ‘I will send them prophets and apostles, some they will murder and some they will persecute,
so that charges may be brought against this generation [holding them responsible] for the blood of all the prophets shed since the foundation of the world, 51 from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah [the priest], who was murdered between the altar and the house of God. Yes, I tell you, charges will be brought against this generation.’
Woe to you lawyers, because you have taken away the key to scriptural truth. You did not enter, and you held back those who were entering by your flawed interpretation of God’s word and concocted tradition.”
When He left there, the scribes and the Pharisees began to be very hostile and to interrogate Him on many subjects,
scheming to catch Jesus in a mistake.

5 And he said unto them, `Who of you shall have a friend, and shall go on unto him at midnight, and may say to him, Friend, lend me three loaves,
6 seeing a friend of mine came out of the way unto me, and I have not what I shall set before him,
7 and he from within answering may say, Do not give me trouble, already the door hath been shut, and my children with me are in the bed, I am not able, having risen, to give to thee.
8 `I say to you, even if he will not give to him, having risen, because of his being his friend, yet because of his importunity, having risen, he will give him as many as he doth need;
9 and I say to you, Ask, and it shall be given to you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened to you;
10 for every one who is asking doth receive; and he who is seeking doth find; and to him who is knocking it shall be opened.
11 `And of which of you -- the father -- if the son shall ask a loaf, a stone will he present to him? and if a fish, will he instead of a fish, a serpent present to him?
12 and if he may ask an egg, will he present to him a scorpion?
13 If, then, ye, being evil, have known good gifts to be giving to your children, how much more shall the Father who is from heaven give the Holy Spirit to those asking Him!'
14 And he was casting forth a demon, and it was dumb, and it came to pass, the demon having gone forth, the dumb man spake, and the multitudes wondered,
15 and certain of them said, `By Beelzeboul, ruler of the demons, he doth cast forth the demons;'
16 and others, tempting, a sign out of heaven from him were asking.
17 And he, knowing their thoughts, said to them, `Every kingdom having been divided against itself is desolated; and house against house doth fall;
18 and if also the Adversary against himself was divided, how shall his kingdom be made to stand? for ye say, by Beelzeboul is my casting forth the demons.
19 `But if I by Beelzeboul cast forth the demons -- your sons, by whom do they cast forth? because of this your judges they shall be;
20 but if by the finger of God I cast forth the demons, then come unawares upon you did the reign of God.
21 `When the strong man armed may keep his hall, in peace are his goods;
22 but when the stronger than he, having come upon [him], may overcome him, his whole-armour he doth take away in which he had trusted, and his spoils he distributeth;
23 he who is not with me is against me, and he who is not gathering with me doth scatter.
24 `When the unclean spirit may go forth from the man it walketh through waterless places seeking rest, and not finding, it saith, I will turn back to my house whence I came forth;
25 and having come, it findeth [it] swept and adorned;
26 then doth it go, and take to it seven other spirits more evil than itself, and having entered, they dwell there, and the last of that man becometh worst than the first.'
27 And it came to pass, in his saying these things, a certain woman having lifted up the voice out of the multitude, said to him, `Happy the womb that carried thee, and the paps that thou didst suck!'
28 And he said, `Yea, rather, happy those hearing the word of God, and keeping [it]!'
29 And the multitudes crowding together upon him, he began to say, `This generation is evil, a sign it doth seek after, and a sign shall not be given to it, except the sign of Jonah the prophet,
30 for as Jonah became a sign to the Ninevites, so also shall the Son of Man be to this generation.
31 `A queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with the men of this generation, and shall condemn them, because she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and lo,
greater than Solomon here!
32 `Men of Nineveh shall stand up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it, because they reformed at the proclamation of Jonah; and lo, greater than Jonah here!
33 `And no one having lighted a lamp, doth put [it] in a secret place, nor under the measure, but on the lamp-stand, that those coming in may behold the light.
34 `The lamp of the body is the eye, when then thine eye may be simple, thy whole body also is lightened; and when it may be evil, thy body also is darkened;
35 take heed, then, lest the light that [is] in thee be darkness;
36 if then thy whole body is lightened, not having any part darkened, the whole shall be lightened, as when the lamp by the brightness may give thee light.'
37 And in [his] speaking, a certain Pharisee was asking him that he might dine with him, and having gone in, he reclined (at meat),
38 and the Pharisee having seen, did wonder that he did not first baptize himself before the dinner.
39 And the Lord said unto him, `Now do ye, the Pharisees, the outside of the cup and of the plate make clean, but your inward part is full of rapine and wickedness;
40 unthinking! did not He who made the outside also the inside make?
41 But what ye have give ye [as] alms, and, lo, all things are clean to you.
42 `But wo to you, the Pharisees, because ye tithe the mint, and the rue, and every herb, and ye pass by the judgment, and the love of God; these things it behoveth to do, and those not to be neglecting.
43 `Wo to you, the Pharisees, because ye love the first seats in the synagogues, and the salutations in the market-places.
44 `Wo to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, because ye are as the unseen tombs, and the men walking above have not known.'
45 And one of the lawyers answering, saith to him, `Teacher, these things saying, us also thou dost insult;'
46 and he said, `And to you, the lawyers, wo! because ye burden men with burdens grievous to be borne, and ye yourselves with one of your fingers do not touch the burdens.
47 `Wo to you, because ye build the tombs of the prophets, and your fathers killed them.
48 Then do ye testify, and are well pleased with the works of your fathers, because they indeed killed them, and ye do build their tombs;
49 because of this also the wisdom of God said: I will send to them prophets, and apostles, and some of them they shall kill and persecute,
50 that the blood of all the prophets, that is being poured forth from the foundation of the world, may be required from this generation;
51 from the blood of Abel unto the blood of Zacharias, who perished between the altar and the house; yes, I say to you, It shall be required from this generation.
52 `Wo to you, the lawyers, because ye took away the key of the knowledge; yourselves ye did not enter; and those coming in, ye did hinder.'
53 And in his speaking these things unto them, the scribes and the Pharisees began fearfully to urge and to press him to speak about many things,
54 laying wait for him, and seeking to catch something out of his mouth, that they might accuse him
After Jesus was praying in a certain place, one of His disciples said to Him, “Lord, teach us to pray just as John like taught his disciples.”
Then Jesus said to them, “Suppose one of you has a friend, and visits him at midnight and says, ‘Yo, lend me 3 loaves;
for a friend of mine who is on a journey has just stopped by, and I have nothing to feed him’;
and from inside he answers, ‘Do not bother me; the door has already locked and my children and I are asleep; I cannot get up and give you anything.’

Re: Bible verse by verse
Luke 12:1-59
When a crowd of thousands had gathered so that there was a serious crush of people, Jesus began to speak 1st to his disciples: “Watch out for the yeast of the Pharisees—I mean, the mismatch between what they say and how they act.
Nothing is hidden that won’t be revealed, and nothing is secret that won’t be exposed.
Therefore, whatever you have said in the darkness will be heard in the light, and whatever you have whispered in the rooms deep inside the house will be shouted from the rooftops.
I tell you, my friends, don’t be terrified by those who can kill the body but after that are powerless.
I’ll show you whom you should fear: fear the one who, after you have been killed, has the authority to toss you into hell. Indeed, I tell you, that’s the one to fear.
Aren’t 5 sparrows sold for 2 small coins? Yet not one of them is ignored by God.
Even the hairs on your head are all counted. Don’t be afraid. You are worth more than many sparrows.
“I tell you, everyone who acknowledges me before humans, the Human One will acknowledge before God’s angels.
But the one who rejects me before others will be rejected before God’s angels.
Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man/Human One will be forgiven, but whoever rejects the Holy Spirit won’t be forgiven.
When they bring you before the synagogues, rulers, and authorities, don’t worry about how to defend yourself or what you should say.
The Holy Spirit will give to yau at that very moment what you must say.”
Someone from the crowd said to him, “Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me.”
Jesus said to him, “Man, who appointed me as judge or referee between you and your brother?”
Then Jesus said to them, “Watch out! Guard yourself against every greed. After all, one’s life isn’t determined by one’s possessions, even when someone is very rich.”
Then Jesus told them a parable: “A certain rich man’s land produced a bountiful crop.
He said to himself, What will I do? I have no place to store this harvest!
Then he thought, Here’s what I’ll do. I’ll tear down my older barns and build bigger ones. That’s where I’ll store all my grain and goods.
I’ll say to myself, You have stored up plenty of goods, enough for several years. Relax! Eat, drink, and enjoy yourself.
But God said to him, ‘Fool, tonight you will die. Now who will get the things you have collected for yourself?’
This is the way it will be for those who hoard things for themselves and aren’t rich toward God.”
Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Therefore, I say to you, don’t worry about your life, what you will eat, your health, what you will wear.
There is more to life than food and more to the body than clothing.
Consider the ravens: they neither plant nor harvest, they have no silo or barn, yet God nourishes them. You are worth so much more than birds!
Who among you by worrying can add a single moment to your life? If you can’t do such an insignificant thing, why worry about the rest?
Notice how the lilies grow. They don’t wear themselves out with work, and they don’t spin cloth. But I say to you that even Solomon in all his splendor wasn’t dressed like one of these.
If God dresses grass in the field so beautifully, even though it’s alive today and tomorrow it’s burned up, how much more will God do for you, you people of weak faith!
Don’t chase after what you will eat and drink. Stop worrying.
All the nations of the world desire these things. Your Father knows that you need them.
Instead, desire his kingdom and these things will be given to you as well.
“Don’t fear, little flock, because your Father delights in giving you the kingdom.
Sell your possessions and give to the needy. Build a treasure in heaven that never runs out. No thief comes there, and no moth destroys.
Where your treasure is, there your heart will be.
“Be dressed for service and keep your lamps lit.
Be like people waiting for their master to come home from a wedding celebration, who can immediately open the door for him when he arrives and seeks admittance.
Happy are those servants whom the master finds waiting up when he arrives. I assure you that, when he arrives, he will dress himself to serve, seat them at the table as honored guests, and wait on them.
Happy are those whom he finds alert, even if he comes at midnight or just prior to dawn.
But know this, if the homeowner had known what time the thief would come, he wouldn’t have allowed his home to be broken into.
You also must be ready, because the Human One is coming at a time when you don’t expect him.”
Peter said, “Lord, are you telling this parable for us or for everyone?”
The Lord replied, “Who are the faithful and wise managers whom the master will put in charge of his household servants, to give them their food at the proper time?
Happy are the servants whom the master finds engaged in fulfilling their responsibilities when he arrives.
I assure you that the master will put them in charge of all his possessions.
But suppose that these servants should say to themselves, My master is taking his time about coming. And suppose they began to beat the servants, both men and women, and to eat, drink, and get drunk.
The master of those servants would come on a day when they weren’t expecting him, at a time predicted. The master will slice them into pieces and assign them a place with the unfaithful.
That servant who knew what his master desired but didn’t prepare for it or act on it will be beaten severely.
The one who didn’t realize the master’s desire but who did things deserving punishment will be beaten only a little. Much will be demanded from everyone who has been handed much, and from the one who has been entrusted with much, even more will be asked.
“I came to cast fire upon the earth. How I wish that it was already ablaze! 50 I have a baptism I must experience. How I am distressed until it’s completed!
Do you think that I have come to the earth peace? No, I have come instead to bring conflict.
From now on, a household of 5 will be at odds with 2 and 2 against 3.
A father will totally disagree with his son and son against father; mother against daughter and daughter against mother; and mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law.”
Jesus also said to the crowds, “When you see a cloud forming in the west, you immediately say, ‘Rain's coming.’ And indeed it does.
And when a south wind blows, you say, ‘A heat wave is coming.’ And so it is.
Hypocrites! You know how to interpret earth's conditions and the sky. How is it that you don’t know how to interpret the present time?
And why don’t you judge for yourselves what is right?
As you are going to court with your accuser, make your best effort to reach a settlement beforehand. Otherwise, your accuser may bring you before the judge, and the judge hand you over to the officer, and the officer toss you into prison.
I tell you, you won’t get out of there until you have paid every penny.”
Young's Literal Translation (YLT)
1 At which time the myriads of the multitude having been gathered together, so as to tread upon one another, he began to say unto his disciples, first, `Take heed to yourselves of the leaven of the
Pharisees, which is hypocrisy;
2 and there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; and hid, that shall not be known;
3 because whatever in the darkness ye said, in the light shall be heard: and what to the ear ye spake in the inner-chambers, shall be proclaimed upon the house-tops.
4 `And I say to you, my friends, be not afraid of those killing the body, and after these things are not having anything over to do;
5 but I will show to you, whom ye may fear; Fear him who, after the killing, is having authority to cast to the gehenna; yes, I say to you, Fear ye Him.
6 `Are not five sparrows sold for two assars? and one of them is not forgotten before God,
7 but even the hairs of your head have been all numbered; therefore fear ye not, than many sparrows ye are of more value.
8 `And I say to you, Every one -- whoever may confess with me before men, the Son of Man also shall confess with him before the messengers of God,
9 and he who hath denied me before men, shall be denied before the messengers of God,
10 and every one whoever shall say a word to the Son of Man, it shall be forgiven to him, but to him who to the Holy Spirit did speak evil, it shall not be forgiven.
11 `And when they bring you before the synagogues, and the rulers, and the authorities, be not anxious how or what ye may reply, or what ye may say,
12 for the Holy Spirit shall teach you in that hour what it behoveth [you] to say.'
13 And a certain one said to him, out of the multitude, `Teacher, say to my brother to divide with me the inheritance.'
14 And he said to him, `Man, who set me a judge or a divider over you?'
15 And he said unto them, `Observe, and beware of the covetousness, because not in the abundance of one's goods is his life.'
16 And he spake a simile unto them, saying, `Of a certain rich man the field brought forth well;
17 and he was reasoning within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have not where I shall gather together my fruits?
18 and he said, This I will do, I will take down my storehouses, and greater ones I will build, and I will gather together there all my products and my good things,
19 and I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast many good things laid up for many years, be resting, eat, drink, be merry.
20 `And God said to him, Unthinking one! this night thy soul they shall require from thee, and what things thou didst prepare -- to whom shall they be?
21 so [is] he who is treasuring up to himself, and is not rich toward God.'
22 And he said unto his disciples, `Because of this, to you I say, Be not anxious for your life, what ye may eat; nor for the body, what ye may put on;
23 the life is more than the nourishment, and the body than the clothing.
24 `Consider the ravens, that they sow not, nor reap, to which there is no barn nor storehouse, and God doth nourish them; how much better are ye than the fowls?
25 and who of you, being anxious, is able to add to his age one cubit?
26 If, then, ye are not able for the least -- why for the rest are ye anxious?
27 `Consider the lilies, how do they grow? they labour not, nor do they spin, and I say to you, not even Solomon in all his glory was arrayed as one of these;
28 and if the herbage in the field, that to-day is, and to-morrow into an oven is cast, God doth so clothe, how much more you -- ye of little faith?
29 `And ye -- seek not what ye may eat, or what ye may drink, and be not in suspense,
30 for all these things do the nations of the world seek after, and your Father hath known that ye have need of these things;
31 but, seek ye the reign of God, and all these things shall be added to you.
32 `Fear not, little flock, because your Father did delight to give you the reign;
33 sell your goods, and give alms, make to yourselves bags that become not old, a treasure unfailing in the heavens, where thief doth not come near, nor moth destroy;
34 for where your treasure is, there also your heart will be.
35 `Let your loins be girded, and the lamps burning,
36 and ye like to men waiting for their lord, when he shall return out of the wedding feasts, that he having come and knocked, immediately they may open to him.
37 `Happy those servants, whom the lord, having come, shall find watching; verily I say to you, that he will gird himself, and will cause them to recline (at meat), and having come near, will minister to
them;
38 and if he may come in the second watch, and in the third watch he may come, and may find [it] so, happy are those servants.
39 `And this know, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief doth come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken through;
40 and ye, then, become ye ready, because at the hour ye think not, the Son of Man doth come.'
41 And Peter said to him, `Sir, unto us this simile dost thou speak, or also unto all?'
42 And the Lord said, `Who, then, is the faithful and prudent steward whom the lord shall set over his household, to give in season the wheat measure?
43 Happy that servant, whom his lord, having come, shall find doing so;
44 truly I say to you, that over all his goods he will set him.
45 `And if that servant may say in his heart, My lord doth delay to come, and may begin to beat the men-servants and the maid-servants, to eat also, and to drink, and to be drunken;
46 the lord of that servant will come in a day in which he doth not look for [him], and in an hour that he doth not know, and will cut him off, and his portion with the unfaithful he will appoint.
47 `And that servant, who having known his lord's will, and not having prepared, nor having gone according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes,
48 and he who, not having known, and having done things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few; and to every one to whom much was given, much shall be required from him; and to whom they did commit much, more abundantly they will ask of him.
49 `Fire I came to cast to the earth, and what will I if already it was kindled?
50 but I have a baptism to be baptized with, and how am I pressed till it may be completed!
51 `Think ye that peace I came to give in the earth? no, I say to you, but rather division;
52 for there shall be henceforth five in one house divided -- three against two, and two against three;
53 a father shall be divided against a son, and a son against a father, a mother against a daughter, and a daughter against a mother, a mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.'
54 And he said also to the multitudes, `When ye may see the cloud rising from the west, immediately ye say, A shower doth come, and it is so;
55 and when -- a south wind blowing, ye say, that there will be heat, and it is;
56 hypocrites! the face of the earth and of the heaven ye have known to make proof of, but this time -- how do ye not make proof of [it]?
57 `And why, also, of yourselves, judge ye not what is righteous?
58 for, as thou art going away with thy opponent to the ruler, in the way give diligence to be released from him, lest he may drag thee unto the judge, and the judge may deliver thee to the officer, and the officer may cast thee into prison;
59 I say to thee, thou mayest not come forth thence till even the last mite thou mayest give back.'
1 At which time the myriads of the multitude having been gathered together, so as to tread upon one another, he began to say unto his disciples, first, `Take heed to yourselves of the leaven of the
Pharisees, which is hypocrisy;
2 and there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; and hid, that shall not be known;
3 because whatever in the darkness ye said, in the light shall be heard: and what to the ear ye spake in the inner-chambers, shall be proclaimed upon the house-tops.
4 `And I say to you, my friends, be not afraid of those killing the body, and after these things are not having anything over to do;
5 but I will show to you, whom ye may fear; Fear him who, after the killing, is having authority to cast to the gehenna; yes, I say to you, Fear ye Him.
16 And he spake a simile unto them, saying, `Of a certain rich man the field brought forth well;
17 and he was reasoning within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have not where I shall gather together my fruits?
18 and he said, This I will do, I will take down my storehouses, and greater ones I will build, and I will gather together there all my products and my good things,
19 and I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast many good things laid up for many years, be resting, eat, drink, be merry.
20 `And God said to him, Unthinking one! this night thy soul they shall require from thee, and what things thou didst prepare -- to whom shall they be?
21 so [is] he who is treasuring up to himself, and is not rich toward God.'
22 And he said unto his disciples, `Because of this, to you I say, Be not anxious for your life, what ye may eat; nor for the body, what ye may put on;
