Trade Deficit 10 year High

Post by _Kevin Graham »

U.S. trade deficit climbs 7%, still on track to hit 10-year high

Trump just gave a speech saying the trade deficit is going down and will go down further.

"Part of the reason is that the U.S. economy is doing well compared to other countries. Americans can afford to buy more imports. The rising value of the dollar has also made American exports more expensive for foreign customers to buy."

Yes, such terrible news.

Point of course, flies well above your head.

Unless you just intentionally ignore the fact that Trump routinely lies to the American people about economics.

I hear from a certain politician that when trade deficits happen, for example because the US generates a lot of wealth to exchange for foreign products, this is a very bad thing.

Can you help me understand why this politician is an ignoramus?

Subbie is the true troll in these parts. It's not really about the far right or Donald Trump or conservative ideas. It's just about attacking perceived liberals. It's why he will argue complete opposites all the time in trying to go after a poster instead of an issue. It's why I seldom engage with him.

It's because he's not a Democrat. Nobody on this board nor in the mainstream media would ever call Bernie Sanders an ignoramus for supporting the same protectionist policies.
And when the confederates saw Jackson standing fearless as a stone wall the army of Northern Virginia took courage and drove the federal army off their land.

Really? What would make you say that in context to this thread?

Sanders isn't out there claiming trade deficits are inherenlty bad, but Bernie Sanders' protectionism is bad. Now back to the certain politician who doesn't understand trade deficits and macroeconomics. What should subs say about that?

Whatever it might be, it’ll probably start with, “Yeah, but Obama (fill in random babbling)”, and end with, #winning. Because ignorance is #winning.

Doc I remember Democrats since 30 years ago preaching against trade deficits. Jack Kemp comes to mind. Were you always in favor of trade deficits?

In any event, the economy is booming. This is good for every working American, even people that voted for Bernie, even for the people on this board who hate Trump.
