Yes, calculated political theatre, playing to the Base. All well and good for entertainment value but I don’t see it as representative of what folks opposed to Kavanaugh in that hearing were asking.
True, but I do think it's important to see where Sammy Jenkins was getting his perspective as it's representative of a number of conservatives who view the entire thing as a sham. There WAS a member of the Judiciary who asked the question, but it was a conservative playing it up as political theater as you said. Sammy should recognize that this isn't one side being serious while the other is throwing everything they can find at the wall to see what sticks.

I made the comment before but I’ll repeat it here: I always figured that Kavanaugh would be appointed given what I interpreted as a respectable if not quirky conservative judicial history, and didn’t see the incident with Ford as a serious deterrent to being appointed given that event’s context, but hearing his unhinged rant in those hearings convinced me that he is not qualified to ‘judge’ from a seat on the highest court in the land.
If Dr. Ford had behaved like Kavanaugh, she would have been accused of being and hysterical woman.
The word hysterical comes from the Greek hysterikos, meaning "of the womb" (same root as hysterectomy). This type of behavior was said to originate from the womb of a woman.
Sexism is literally ingrained in our language about behavior.
Nancy Pelosi calls Brett Kavanaugh "hysterical," says he is unfit to serve on the Supreme Court
C'mon. People on the Left have noted and are using his testimony to demonstrate his lack of suitability for the position. A short google-fu will show that Kavanaugh has been roasted for the performance with every pejorative people can muster, and I'm fairly certain if the roles were reversed we'd be talking about how poorly women are treated in the patriarchy as evidenced by blah blah blah.
eta: I just find it funny that Kavanaugh is accused of cheap theatrics when, well, we all have eyeballs but some of us have HUGE blindspots when it comes to their side.

That's not surprising.
Because his response - petulant, enraged, snivelingly self-pitying by turns - was just what was needed to make reasonable people doubt his suitability for appointment to the highest judicial bench in the USA.
And he could have denied all of Ford's claims just as strongly (and more convincingly), while maintaining the dignity and restraint that would have shown him to be a fit candidate for the Supreme Court. But he didn't, because he apparently isn't.

Kavanagh's wife was highly partisan before he met her. They move in highly partisan circles. His whole career has been partisan in orientation. The kids are collateral damage but the rest? Their eyes were open. They brought their children into the predatory environment of political warfare. Dr. Ford didn't; she was a casualty of the privileged pricks that K represented then and represents now.
I'm fascinated by the rage of Lindsey Graham. Any moves toward equality in our society seems to meet with these sort of tantrums. Clutching guns and Jesus and the GOP in fear that they will have to compete fairly.

We elected Donald J. Trump to arguably the most powerful position in the world (aside from the FIFA presidency).

Because her response - crocodile tears, incoherent, snivelingly self-pitying by turns - was just what was needed to make reasonable people doubt her credibility to accuse a judge, nominated for the highest judicial bench in the USA, of sexual assault.

But when Serena Williams exhibits her hysterical ghetto behavior in response to her perception of being held to a higher standard than male players she's a champion of women's rights? For me, Kavanaugh will prove to be champion of men's rights if he gets confirmed. The pendulum has swung way to far to the left on this issue for too long. We don't need more Duke Lacrosse, Tawanna Brawley, etc. cases.
And when the confederates saw Jackson standing fearless as a stone wall the army of Northern Virginia took courage and drove the federal army off their land.

God you are awful. But it does illustrate the point here, doesn't it? You reading a lot of people at Brietbart describing Kavanaugh's conspiratorial tantrum as his "hysterical ghetto behavior?" Nah? Why might that be?

Not in the real world it wasn't. Her calm and measured demeanour was a sharp contrast to Mr K's, which was not worthy of the high and responsible office to which he aspires.
Look Dr C: sometimes the 'table-turning' rhetorical manoeuvre works - and then by all means go ahead and use it. I often do, as you know.
But in this case, it just doesn't.

for what it's worth, if this was a left-leaning judicial candidate that had acted this way, I’d come away with exactly the same conclusion.
I lean slightly politically ‘right’ as far as Supreme Court picks go.

maybe because the allegations against Serena were true, founded in evidence, and corroborated by witnesses.
