I've been pretty clear what my issue is and why I chose to post in this thread. Your comment to EA about asylum seekers being treated like criminals was the motive and Trump's attempt at usurping legislative powers and then bitching about the judges who rightly stopped him is my main concern here. I absolutely believe the so-called caravan issue is political rather than pragmatic and the solution space is in the existing laws. You don't like letting people wait for their asylum hearings here in the states then I suggest putting resources into speeding up the hearing process. You don't want to spend the money, the system is in place to run at the speed it's fed so I guess you want to keep your cake and to eat it at the same time. If you are all for concentration camps, then there becomes a meaningful historical burden you have to overcome to even begin a serious discussion. I don't think you're being rational and have given reason to take you very seriously in this thread, really. If this was about Trump and Russia we'd be having a completely different discussion. You don't have a consistent position on the board to warrant treating your supposed claim to want a good faith discussion with the grain of salt necessary to look past the hyperbole included.
At the end of the day it seems you think the migrants coming to the border present a unique and difficult challenge that current immigration law is ill-equipped to handle. I believe that is a politically manufactured framing of the issue that is absolutely manageable within existing immigration law and practices that began to arise during the Obama admin to deal with the increase in asylum seekers from Central America. Do I think more could be done to make it a more fair, more efficient process? Absolutely, but it really comes down to increasing the resources needed to do so. Do I think the Trump admin is a threat to liberal Democracy on many fronts? Oh hell yeah, and this is one of them that the political gamesmanship around fear-mongering over dirty, criminal migrants plays into.
Like I keep saying, we have very different priorities here apparently and I find yours to be the product of political manipulation that, left unchallenged, threaten the structure of our government. So, I guess that's probably a huge hurdle to overcome when it comes to dialog because I have yet to see you make a case that would cause me to reevaluate the level of threat to society posed by the migrants. Or to consider I miscalculate the ability for the immigration system as established to handle it once one removes the Trumpian fear mongering. You seem to think that Trump is being kept in check just fine while there are serious threats to our nation posed by the migrants coming to our country that warrant revisiting some of the worst behaviors of Western civilization in the 20th Century. It makes it harder to take you seriously knowing that in the context of Russian interference you clearly view Trump's compromised behavior as legitimately worthy of scrutiny and open expressions of resistance. So how does one conclude you aren't trolling except by assuming you may have deeper problems with Hispanic migrants that don't get triggered when we're talking about our historical cold war enemies? Riddle me that one.
