as for "not bad", i can't help but notice that after a solid 24 months of blitzkrieg-esque anti-Trump campaigning this is the best the Democrats could perform....meh.

The Democrats surpassed 2006, so it's basically the single biggest victory of the modern party system. I think it's the biggest election victory for a minority party in the history of keeping data on it. This occurred the most incumbent friendly election environment we've seen in 20 years no less. People say Trump's awfulness does't matter, but it does. It's just not as much as you'd hope.
If we're in the middle of the recession in November of 2020, Trump is going down like Hoover and probably will seriously damage down-ballot Republicans in the process. This'll be just in time for gerrymandering.

I expect to see Trump brought up on charges of illegal campaign finance stuff, emoluments clause violations and money laundering for sanctioned Russian businesses by June. Whether the Republican lead Senate or his fan boi base do anything is another question all together.

The only real negative for Democrats in the mid-terms is it appears Florida went from a swing state to a red state. However, they took back the rust belt. If the rust belt stays blue for 2020 then Trump is probably screwed. But current politics is so weird right now, who knows what will happen. Trump will likely survive to 2020 unless Mueller finally finishes his investigation and there is an absolute bombshell. It would have to be huge, because it is unlikely Republicans in the Senate will do anything unless their political survival absolutely depended on it, and even then most of them would rather go down with the ship than side with the Democrats and the liberal mainstream media.

I love these maps that show Republicans winning the prairie dog vote. 163,387 people voted for Donald Trump in Alaska, and 345,084 people voted for Hillary Clinton in San Francisco. San Francisco is a tiny speck on the map.
